Located in the heart of Downtown Pompano Beach, South Bar & Kitchen is a contemporary Southern American concept with a heavy Louisiana influence, infusing Cajun and Creole flavors in a tantalizing way. Bringing people together is at the heart of everything South has to offer, from the community patio with a centerpiece tree adorned with sparkling lights to the meat smoker that not only warms our food but introduces a nostalgic feeling.

The ambiance here was really nice — I loved the dark green tones throughout the space. Customer service was great, and everyone who helped us was very attentive. Our waiter, Vlad, took especially good care of us.
Since this is a New Orleans–style restaurant, I was expecting bold flavors. As appetizers we ordered the gumbo and blue crab beignets, which had a great crispy crust but were a little too mushy inside for my taste. We also shared the whole fried chicken with macaroni and collard greens — it was okay overall. The biscuits on the other hand were amazing.

South recently hosted our daughters baby shower for approximately 50 people. It was outdoors on the terrace and was simply an amazing afternoon. The food was excellent (as good as you’d get if you were seated indoors) and the service was impeccable. We could not be more pleased with Rachel and her staff, and would gladly do it all again.

Stopped in for a late dinner while travelling right off I 95 and got a nice booth no waiting. They had a large out door seating area but we sat inside at a big booth. Adam our server was terrific. Party of four , we split the fried chicken & the biscuits and sides were fantastic. Best sweet tea I had in Florida
Next time I’m in the area I’m going back to try the other southern menu items because the food was truly southern great

Visited on today 10/4/25 and had a wonderful experience at the unlimited brunch. Jasmine was my waitress at my table and worked and the bar at the same time and she was awesome. Jasmine made sure I had everything I needed and was at my table anytime she seen my water getting low or when I needed more food.. Excellent service by Jasmine. The food was great and some items came out literally 30 seconds after she put the order in no lie… The bacon jam sliders and blue crab beignets were the best.. Definitely will be my new Saturday brunch spot.

Initial Review (5 stars – 02/28/2026) – Dining at South Bar & Kitchen was an outstanding experience! My employer hosted a dinner for our professional development event at this restaurant. We dined on the patio. We were treated to live music — a saxophone player — as well as heaters for the slightly cool evening. I enjoyed especially being near an old ancestor — a giant old tree — at the center of the patio space. The tree is BEAUTIFUL! In addition to the ambience, the waitstaff was amazing! Marina was an excellent server — kind, attentive, smiling. The food was fantastic. I ordered the New Orleans pasta, and it was delicious. The menu indicated that it was spicy. I thought that meant hot, but it actually meant flavorful (e.g., full of spices). I treated my teammates to adult beverages, and I order the “Bless Your Heart” mostly for the name. I was pleasantly surprised that it was so good. Normally, I am not a fan of coconut, but that drink was great. When I return to South Bar & Kitchen, I will order the Bless Your Heart again. Overall, my experience at this restaurant was excellent. It is one to which I will return and one about which I share with my colleagues and friends.

The aesthetic is nice with the 100yr old Banyan tree being the focal piece. We visited around 7pm on a Saturday night with a party of 5. We sat under the tree. The weather was beautiful and the music was delightful but it was kinda hard to hear the conversations at your table.
Also, beware that falling leaves or bird poop could be on the seats closest to the tree.
My friends rated the alcoholic beverages a 10/10. The crab dip and blue crab b….. were both very good. The Blackened Mahi Mahi was on the salty side but edible and enjoyable and the sweet potato fries paired well with it. There was plenty of parking and no wait as we had a reservation. Overall it was a nice experience and I would visit again. Oh, gratuity is included in the bill. Enjoy

Everything was truly amazing! The food was great. I’ll highly recommend their sweet potato waffle and shrimp with grits. Their matcha cocktail tasted so good as well, good music and vibes. Can’t wait to go back!

I used to live in Fort Lauderdale and this whole area has changed so much. This restaurant was absolutely amazing. Unfortunately it was raining so the windows weren’t open, but the patio area is spectacular. The food was absolutely delicious too. Some of the best gumbo I have ever had. During happy hour the appetizers are half off, so it was nice to share the deviled eggs, the spoon bread, and the ribs. Everything was absolutely amazing.

This was my second time here. First time I came for brunch and it was not very good. This time I came for dinner and same thing. The drinks are good, but the food is inconsistent. Some is overly seasoned and some is not seasoned at all. Very hit or miss. I ordered the short rib and grits, but my colleagues ordered a bunch of other dishes from the menu and the reviews were up and down. We had exceptional service, so I gave two stars. And they had a live saxophone player which was a huge plus, but the food falls short.

Arrived on a Saturday afternoon around 315 pm, with a party of 4 and sat at the bar on the inside After about 10 minutes. A young lady comes over, provides menus, gives us water, takes our drink request and then she left. About 7 my minutes later the actual bartender, Nicholai, introduces himself and asks if we would like drinks. We informed him that we already made a drink order but we never got anything. He said he would take our request, which he did. After he provides drinks we’re ready to order. That’s when Nicholai advised us that because it’s the end of Brunch the kitchen will need 30 minutes before we can input a food order. I thought that was odd but we decided to wait. About 15 minutes later Nicholai takes our food order. We order 2 apps and 4 entrees. The apps came out fairly quickly. One was some sort of egg roll looking deal (sorry I can’t remember and I forgot the other app), both appetizers were good. Apps were consumed and we were waiting for the entrees. In the meantime we all finished our drinks but the bartender, Nicholai, was much more fucused on washing dishes from the brunch crowd then worrying about us, even though we were the only ones at the bar. After 7 minutes of being ignored a member in my party got impatient and had to get his attention for another round. After another 10 minutes our entrees finally came out but unfortunately it was only 2 of the 4 entrees. We had to wait on the other entrees. My wife ordered the grits and catfish. I must say the plate looked fantastic however the grits were very very bland. I ordered the $46 12oz ribeye. A $46 12oz ribeye is kinda overpriced but you only live once. Anyway the steak was very small, overcooked and devoid of any flavor. The other members of my party finally got their food and they also complained that it was bland and these are people who never complain about anything unlike myself. Needless to say I will never come back here again and for the amount of money I spent I could have gone to NYY Steakhouse or Eddie Vs and had a much better meal. The only good thing I have to say about this place is it is beautiful and the atmosphere is very warm and welcoming
