My pulled pork and pulled chicken were both very dry and lacked seasoning. I had to smother them in sauce, but the sauce was not great. If their proteins are dry, they need a heavy vinegar based sauce, not apple cinnamon.
The potato salad was good and glad it was not mustard heavy. My beans were not great and I took most of everything to go because it was 30.00 and couldn’t toss it. Then I just tossed it anyway because it dried up to nothing in the fridge.
The sides are not great, the portions are plentiful and service was friendly. They need to add some jalapeños, onions, and pickles to the sauce bar. And sausage, where was the sausage, corn pudding, okra and tomatoes and ice cream dispenser???
Not terrible, but tough for the area when the gas station down the street serves better chicken and mac n cheese.
I had the single beef rib with mashed potatoes and homemade gravy. It was tender and full of flavor.
My husband had the southern fried chicken sandwich. It came on a toasted roll with in house BBQ sauce, potato salad as a side with cornbread. Large portions and decent prices. Tastes like grandma’s house. We will definitely be back.
I went with the basic: 1/2 rack of ribs, potato salad, corn bread, and a side of jambalaya. A bit dry, but tender ribs fell off the bone nicely. The sauces were great! The hot sauce actually got a nice kick to it, so if you are a fan of heat, definitely do recommend adding it to your sauce. Sweet corn bread went well with ribs, but potato salad was not so impressive. Jambalaya was overcooked, tasted almost like a porridge with all the ingredients had mushy texture mixed into a big ball of wet chunk and barely had any flavor. I tried a piece of black magic cake for a dessert. I expected a nice creamy frosting when it was a thick sugar icing in every layer that way too sweet for my taste.
I might still go back to try other dishes since they got a nice varieties on their menu. They also have a good selections of drinks. Good atmosphere.
I visited again today to see how things are going. While they still would not be mistaken for Texas or Southern barbecue, their heart is in the right place. We ordered the catfish with jambalaya and the pulled chicken with house-made pickles and mashed potatoes. We both had cornbread and split a slice of pecan pie.
The service was friendly and on the ball.
Chicken should really be called chopped rather than pulled: it needed the bbq sauce to give it flavor. The garlic mashed potatoes and house pickles were pretty good! The catfish was perfectly done in thin filets. The jambalaya was more like Spanish rice but still tasty. The pecan pie was sinful — but — the layer of semisweet chocolate chips was unorthodox and unnecessary! The cornbread is of the sweet-cake variety rather than savory or spicy. They seem to have redesigned their ordering line a bit and streamlined their menu boards in favor of a printed menu, and that works well.

((ORIGINAL REVIEW))
The only thing keeping this gem from five stars is that they fall down on desserts. They would benefit from a Southern pastry chef who could set them up with pies and cobblers. The selection is consistently heavy, bland, soggy pastry.
The good news is the barbecue is top notch and for real, and the specials are creative and on point. They even have vegan and gluten-free options. Good selection of beer.
Update Oct 2019
Downgrading a couple of stars: I got food poisoning here: had a very unpleasant night. They need to review their processes.
I will definitely be returning!
