We are foodies of small town restaurants. Hadn’t been thru Wheeler in a long time. Heard on TV about this steakhouse. Was impressed as we drove into the parking lot. Clean, nice entrance to the building, well kept!
Greeted by a friendly, smiling face and taken to a table. It was about 1:00 pm and rush hour was over but lingering tables of conversation was still going on. Order taken and off to the salad bar. Was nice, well stocked, just enough items without waste at Lunch.
Hubs ordered 12 oz Ribeye, medium cooked with grilled Zucchini. I ordered grilled Fish with rice, green beans. The fish was two nice size grilled pcs with a great rub. Tasted great. Hub’s Steak was very thin for a 12 ozs ribeye but a long pc of meat. There was no medium to the steak. It was chewy but did have a good taste for a grilled fried steak. Just disappointing for the price! Hub’s kept eating hopefully medium was there somewhere. It wasn’t so bad, but next time will order something else. Everything else about our experience was pretty good. The houses on the street to the restaurant were very well maintained by the owners. Stopped in at the Speedy Stop to get a drink and was met with two very friendly, charming ladies working there. It was a trip stop off that we will do again.

I was delivering some feed and stopped at Maxey’s Steakhouse. I ask the waitress what she would recommend and it was the Shisko Kbob’s for me. It was delicious. They make their own rolls. The salad bar was excellent also. My tea glass never went empty, that’s my pet peeve. This is a small town restaurant and I enjoyed just watching people visiting with other tables. I will definitely stop the next time I’m around that part of Texas.

Wonderful sirloin steak and loved the salad bar here. Stop on in for some good home cooking and cold iced tea.

I ordered a medium steak. It came out well done. Waitress never came and ask how my steak was until I was done trying to eat it. Never came and ask if it was cooked properly or anything. Then I’m assuming owner ask how my dinner was, I explained it was over cooked and my experience and he got mad and walked away. I won’t be back. Good luck if your eating here these days.

Was kinda worried about the service after reading some of past reviews but Bridgette is the absolute best! They were out of prime rib but she offered a rib eye steak with crushed pepper and it was great. Beverages were kept full and finished dishes quickly removed. Friendly atmosphere, everyone appeared to know everyone just as it should be in a small town. Will definitely be returning and thank you Bridgette!

Food is great. Servers slow. Weren’t many there yet and its a wait to be waited on and served. Charged us 3.75 for a tiny cup of French dressing I got off salad bar because server had forgotten to bring it. A few days later….same thing….but did notice one server was on the ball just not ours. We sat and visited for an hour after the meal (old friends) and was never asked if we wanted coffee or dessert and dirtybdishes stayed on the table in front of us until the other server removed them. The grilled catfish is amazing. They have a good salad bar. Old fashioned down home options.

We have gone to Maxey’s for years. We drive 45 minutes to go & are never disappointed. We’ve gone here for dates, special occasions like birthdays, etc. The food is always great. The staff has is always energetic, friendly, efficient at getting things done. We’re glad to be their customers!

We arrived with a party of 11 today at noon (after the Shamrock parade). We were seated in the frigid unheated dining room on the north . We asked to be reseated in the main room where there were 10-15 open tables and were told they were saving those just in case they got busy and wouldn’t put the tables together for us OR reseat us at separate tables! Dumbest thing I’ve ever heard of! We had an excellent meal ($197 total check) at Mel’s diner in their warm dining room and left the waitress a $65
tip. Your loss Maxey’s!
