Definitely returning!
We got our menus and were served hot tea in a plastic pitcher. After putting our order in, we didn’t receive the banchan until just a few minutes before our appetizer arrived.
We ordered the Seafood Pancake for our appetizer and it’s probably one of the best pancakes I’ve had. It tasted very good and authentic without the oiliness/greasiness. It was medium-sized and could probably serve 2-4 people. There’s a good crunch to it and the inside of the pancake was not too undercooked. Would highly recommend getting the pancake if you decide to visit!
I ordered Galbi Tang, which is a beef rib soup that has meat and clear noodles. It comes with a small bowl of rice. The flavor of the dish reminded me of egg drop soup but with a strong dashi or seafood flavor. Galbi Tang is known for its delicate flavor but I couldn’t help but notice the salty profile in this dish. I don’t think I would try this dish again as I prefer a thicker and savory soup, such as Galbijjim.
In terms of service, I understood there was a large party for the staff to attend to; however, even after the party left, we felt quite neglected and out of place. We’re Asian but we were the only non-Korean customers in the restaurant and felt the staff did not want to attend to us. Our banchan were not refilled, we did not get water despite asking for it, and they did not check in during our dining experience to see if we needed anything. We did notice they were more attentive to the other Korean customers and wonder if maybe there’s a bit of a language barrier at play.
Overall, To Dam Gol is a cute, family-oriented restaurant that’s located in a small parking lot off the main road. The Seafood Pancake was amazing and a must-try. However, the rather poor service and the overly salty Galbi Tang left us desiring more. We’re unlikely to return in the future.
Love the complimentary hot barley tea
Very flavorful and authentic DukBokki (I’m highly recommended)
Also enjoyed the kimchi jiggae and tteok mandu guk
Arrived at 11:00am with no wait to sit
Free but small parking lot
Highly recommended and will definitely return
