Despite having a reservation for 8:30pm on Valentine’s Day, they looked really disappointed when we arrived. The bearded man in the chef attire was noticeably flustered. After looking around the seating area, he politely offered us seats in the bar in front of the speakers. When we declined, he found us seats in the dining room.

It was about 8:20 when we were seated. The waitress, came of after 15 minutes and asked if anyone was helping us. She left after taking our drink orders but returned very quickly to inform us the kitchen would be closing at 9:00. Before returning with our drinks, she asked if we could place our order to “help out the kitchen”.

Dinner and apps came out at the appropriate time. After dinner was dropped off the waitress disappeared, probably focusing on back of house sidework. Who knows if we would have ordered another round of drinks or even had dessert.

We got pretty tight with the guy bussing tables. He helped help round up the waitress. From the time we walked in to the time we left, it was apparent we were a burden to the staff despite having a reservation.

You might ask, “why go to a hotel pub for Valentine’s day”? We stayed at the Wolfboro Inn and they hosted our wedding reception there 11 years ago.

Wolfe’s Tavern is a highlight of my family vacation every summer. They have excellent food and the wait staff are very friendly and attentive. We have been going here for decades and food has remained consistent throughout the years. Prices are very reasonable considering the quality of food and portion sizes.

We have visited this restaurant in the past and have had a great experience. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case last night. Our server Ben appeared to be on something. He knew very little about Wolfeboro and was more concerned in finding a girlfriend. Just after ordering drinks Ben seemed to disappear. It was blatantly obvious that the other two servers were flustered by having to pick up the slack for Ben, almost as if it’s a nighty occurrence. Took forever to get our drinks, the bartender finally had to bring them over. The $16 garlic and parmesan winni wings were tasteless and rubbery. Our intention was to celebrate and have a nice birthday dinner, but we bailed after the appetizer. Fortunately Wolfeboro has many other fine dining establishments and we were able to salvage the night.

REVISED 1/24/26 – 4 stars

We returned and gave it another go. Much improved! We sat at the bar and the bartender was personable and very attentive. Drinks were excellent, we each ordered the tavern burger and it was cooked to our liking. Bravo! Please keep up with this service!

WOW – I can’t believe we didn’t come here sooner!! If you’re in Wolfeboro (or anywhere in this whole area of New Hampshire, for that matter) and you’re craving a high-quality burger, sandwich, a wide range of shareables, and just great gastropub-style food, this is the place to go!! It’s got something for everyone, an amazing gluten-free selection, great service, and some of the best food I’ve had anywhere here!

We got a wide range of different things: pretzels w/beer cheese, fried calamari, mac & cheese, fried chicken sandwich, fish & chips, “Smoke On the Water” burger, and “Figgy” burger! Everything was incredible! The burgers and fried chicken sandwich were some of the best we’ve EVER had, the fish & chips tasted exactly like they should, calamari was a really solid classic calamari, pretzels w/ beer cheese were an amazing starter, and mac & cheese was the perfect guilty pleasure! So many great selections but if you’re coming here for your first time, I highly recommend the burgers. Get the “Smoke On the Water” or the “Figgy” burgers, and if hamburgers aren’t your thing, get the fried chicken sandwich. We were so happy with our meal and we cannot wait to go back! Well done to the Wolfe’s Tavern team!!

Excellent place to dine! I ordered the Grilled Bourbon Steak Tips, and it was very delectable. I absolutely enjoyed eating these tender steak tips dipped in a barbecue sauce and served with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The waitress was also very friendly, service was quick, and I enjoyed the overall atmosphere. I’d absolutely recommend dining here.

Tried to order the steak tips with mashed potatoes, as we did not want french fries. The sirloin steak came with mashed potato in that option.
Asked the waitress if we could switch out the french fries for the mashed potato. She came back shortly and said it was not allowed we would have to stick with the french fries. OK, the meal filing came which is very slow.
The steak tips were tough as they could be along with being very lukewarm at the most. The green bean casserole the green beans weren’t even cooked they were very hard and crunchy. When the waitress came back. And asked how everything was I told her the french fries were good. My friend who was with me had a chocolate martini, and she said that wasn’t even made correctly.

I do not recommend this place for food. There are many other restaurants out there!

Very good vibes here. The bartenders and serving staff are really nice and down to earth. Theyve got hundreds of metal mugs hanging from the ceiling that were earned in the 100 beer club. Definitely worth stopping in for a pint.

It looked good on line so we made reservations.Waited 15mins to be seated, then 40mins gone by and no waitress came to our table. People came in after us and left way before we even got our food haha. Will never go to this restaurant again and I don’t recommend it!

The definition of a mixed bag, but unfortunately I lean towards do not recommend. Staff is friendly, and the mac and cheese was particularly good – gooey, hearty, and overall very delicious.

The atmosphere is perfectly quaint and even cozy in spots: the space has multiple rooms, a couple of old fireplaces, and an old cabin feel to it. Dozens of old stein mugs hang from the ceiling (each personalized for customers who have completed the tavern’s “100 beer challenge”).

The “wagyu” burger is a borderline scam and burned into a hockey puck despite being ordered as medium rare.

Our waiter was relatively nice, but not much of a talker and clearly not trained or knowledgeable about the menu; he was unable to answer even the most basic questions (I.e. “what do people like the most here?”) and would often just mumble a one word answer and awkwardly walk away. When we showed him the burnt burger, he said “oh” and had no additional response.

Looks like my journey to the 100 beer milestone at Wolfe’s will end abruptly after my 1st. Hoping they can turn it around, as some improvements in the kitchen and training their wait staff could go a long way in making this a highly desirable stop for dinner/drinks in Wolfeboro.

Horrible service and
tasteless over salted food.
Wine served in water glasses with small portions.
The chicken was over salted and tiny.
Calamari was tastless and had way too much coating with a horrible sauce.
I ate nothing but paid full price. Waiter was slow, inattentive and never offered to take any money off.
Under new management and living off its old reviews.
