Always authentic food. Great for carryout or dine in. Had desert on on last visit. This is now a must every vist. The variety and freshness was great. We had some like if Carmel filed churro’s and dubi chocolate covered strawberries. I wish I had nat eaten all my diner. Next time i am eating half my dinner saving the other half for lunch and loading up on desert.

Honestly, the best tamales in town. At many places I’ve been, the tamales are mostly cornmeal with very little meat. La Estrella tamales have a good balance of meat and cornmeal. The carnitas tacos are also excellent! This is a place where you order at the counter, so service is basic (that’s why only 3 stars). And, the interior is pretty basic (again, the reason for 3 stars). Prices are very reasonable. If you’re not looking for a fancy, sit-down experience but just want really good Mexican food, this is the place.

Had dinner tonight for three of us, everyone had super dry meat, they were quite stingy on the meat portions as well. Going down hill!
Chicken quesadillas had little to no meat

I recently moved back to Larewnce after living in South Texas for 15 yrs. I was so worried I wouldnt find a good taco al pastor in town, and I found my place! I grab their tacos on my lunch break often! The inside is really cute, if you are looking for authentic definitely give them a try!

Real deal! Not the average Tex Mex that so many midwest people tend to like. No, this place is as authentic as I’ve experienced. Very polite service as I have to ask what to order every time because the menu is all in spanish. No cocktails but they do serve multiple beer options. Also, there is a full grocery store downstairs!

Best taco and medxican place in lawrence! I highly recommend checking this place out! One of my favorite places to go to for tacos and drinks! Overall great food. They have a little market down stairs with fresh bread and all types of food from Mexico!

I haven’t been to the new place so while tooling around 23rd street, hubby and I popped in. First, it’s much, much larger than the former place. Second, it’s a colorful layout. The counter’s in the rear and you order your food like before but they bring it out to you. Finally, the beer selection is more extensive and they keep an opener by the cash register for your use (I find this very whimsical and cool). We sat at a table painted in vibrant tropical colors with chairs to match. Our food was brought to us. Ok, the food. THE FOOD!!!!!! I ordered 2 Carne tacos which came on corn tortillas, onions and cilantro. Also ordered the no Carne burrito which is huge and is filled with rice and refried beans. I purposely ordered too much food so I’d have leftovers because thats how much I love this food. The Carne was incredibly tender and seasoned just perfectly with a bit of a bite. The onions and cilantro rounded out the entire taco experience. Just freaking delicious. My burrito had a bit more rice than I liked so next time I’ll request poquito arroz. Nonetheless, it was a generous burrito and very appetizing. The refried beans were a bit tangy melded with the seasoned rice. Pretty darn good. The salsas I will warn you are muy caliente but dang, they’re fantastic. The burn is worth it as it disappears and doesn’t leave that “hot taste” in your mouth. Hubby had chicken tamales and I swear I’ve never, ever seen hubby clear a plate that quick. I’m still a bit peeved he didn’t share. He proclaimed the two tamales absolutely delicious! I will have to order those next time and WILL NOT SHARE with hubby. If I could give this place more stars I would. The food is definitely the best Mexican food in larryville. The ambience is ok, mostly because the TV was blasting a soccer game. Service was quick and efficient. The staff doesn’t have alot of people who speak English but they get the job done well. It’s clean and BTW, you bus your table yourself. There’s a market downstairs which I didn’t check out. I’ll rectify that next visit. And yes, there will be a next visit and relatively soon. You see, hubby dropped my leftover box in the parking lot. So, I’ll fill you in on what I try next!

Wonderful! Great food choices from the taqueria, made fresh to order. Small service butcher counter with lots of fresh meat options as well as salsas and cheese. The market side has a deep selection of snacks, spices, dry and canned goods, and even cooking equipment. This little shop is packed with everything you might be looking for from Central America. The owners and staff are nice, welcoming, and helpful. Will be back often!

So SO excited this place is back open. The food is OUTSTANDING and complimented by a deep menu. The inside of the newly renovated building is clean, organized, and very vibrant. Staff knows they scored big here and are very friendly and cordial. The quesa burria was amazing by itself, yet alone when it was dipped into the consommé. I’d eat here every day if I could!
