An everything bagel here is just a plain bagel with a little bit of everything seasoning on top. No texture. Not authentic New Jersey style. Maybe they have some other menu items that are good, but I judge a bagel place by their everything bagels.
Edit: tried it again and I’m downgrading to one star. No poppy seeds on the everything bagel. The good people of Montclair are being stolen from if they keep spending their money here!

This was my second time ordering here, and while the food itself was cooked well, my platter was missing the breakfast potatoes. I ordered the platter specifically for the potatoes, since they aren’t offered separately online or with other dishes. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize until I got home (over 15 minutes away) that they weren’t included. It was disappointing because I essentially paid more to assemble my own sandwich without cheese and without the potatoes I was looking forward to. I really enjoy the food here, but small mistakes like this make the experience less enjoyable.

I ordered a bacon egg and cheese and it was actually decent. However, the staff there were really rude, even disrespectful and 1 kept looking at me all weird. And I had been nothing but polite. Had it been a different day there would have been problems but I was trying to be civilized. Especially in a decent town like Montclair, where I’ve done some concrete work before. I don’t care how good the is food, which it was subpar anyways. 1 star is too good, honestly. Never again!

Convenience is the only selling point here. The bagels are mediocre at best, and they rarely get the order right. To make matters worse, the fruit I ordered last time was spoiled. Given the better alternatives in the area, there isn’t much reason to come back. Two stars only because it’s edible.

I cannot believe how negative some of the reviews of Sunrise online are, as the food was outstanding and I had a great experience.
Back in NJ for work this past week, my colleagues had ordered a ton of bagels from Sunrise and they were really fantastic. HUGE, with lots of options, and perfectly prepared. Told that Sunrise was a favorite of local Montclair legend Yogi Berra, I wanted to head to the shop for a proper breakfast and to get bagels to go before I headed back to the south.
I arrived pretty early in the morning (7:30ish) and had very good service, enjoying a Taylor ham, egg, and cheese. The space in the restaurant itself was also great – clean and comfortable, I was able to eat, have coffee, and work for a couple of hours (there IS free WiFi) without troubling anyone.
If you’re in the area, definitely check out Sunrise. I’m certainly glad I didn’t take the negative reviews here too seriously.

Absolutely, incredibly delicious. I ordered a Taylor ham with bacon and it was to die for. Everything you need in a bagel breakfast joint. If you’re from out of town I highly recommend going to the spot especially if it’s your first New Jersey bagel experience!

I ordered a toasted rainbow bagel with butter on it for my child who was with me. When we got to the park to eat it, I thought they screwed up and added cream cheese. But no, it was butter. This picture was taken after I had to use five napkins to scoop off the globs of unsalted butter. The entire thing was like a lard soaked butter bomb, I’m quite shocked that anyone would dress a bagel like this. Particularly for a child.

Very combative individual who took my order. Spoke fast looked annoyed at me ordering. He seems to let his coworker know about his annoyance who then glared at me. The worker then proceeded to pick his eye and and put my order together without washing his hand. I watched the whole time from the counter. I couldn’t even eat it after knowing this man didn’t wash his hands. He also checked his phone while waiting for eggs to cook and still didn’t wash his hand. Lavate los manos. Yuck!

I ordered a plain bagel and after I ordered, I noticed the rainbow bagels. I mentioned how cool they were and how I’d have to try one the next time I came, and the woman just threw in a rainbow one in the bag for free! She and her co-worker were so friendly and the bagels are good and delicious, so I will definitely be coming back!

the bagels are okay but not great. every time i go to sunrise i get a surprise like a hair, a dead bug, or i don’t even know what else. i ALWAYS see hairs in my food. i think the workers should wear caps to not make this happen. i’m very disappointed because this place use to be very good. save your money it’s not worth it.
