Social Profile:

The Otani family has been serving Oxnard since our first business opened in 1908 – the 5th generation currently runs Otani’s Seafood. Otani’s is a seafood restaurant in Downtown Oxnard, CA featuring Japanese style seafood with a twist of Mexican flair. Many of the dishes we prepare are still made from great-grandpa Izuto (Izzy) Otani’s own homemade recipes. Started in 1952, we are continuing the tradition of a casual, no-fuss dining experience with quick friendly service. You will always find a smiling face at the counter ready to take your order or refill your beverage. Our entire menu is available for dine-in or take-out and we accept both online and phone orders. We also offer an all-day happy hour with food and drink items.

Longtime counter-serve serving Asian-style ocean fare such as teriyaki red snapper & shrimp tempura.

The only reason I’m giving Otani’s only two stars is that a friend of mine told me how amazingly wonderful it was. Perhaps the seafood salad isn’t the best thing on the menu. That’s what I had and it was very underwhelming. My friend and I went there hoping to find something like a Seven Seas salad which of course has all kinds of seafood in it not just crab and shrimp with lettuce. We did not opt to have it smothered in mayonnaise which of course is the way most people get it. I intend to return to try something else on the menu. The place was about half-full and there was a steady stream of people coming in getting to go orders. I suspect my experience is a unique one. I must add this; the people who work there are very accommodating I did not expect the wonderful service that we got.

I have been coming here for years and the food and quality have always been great. The service is amazing too. Karen is always very kind and professional and all the other employees too. Definitely has a special place in my heart.

I love Otani’s. Have been coming here since I was a kid. The food is delicious and staff is always friendly and helpful. It gets REALLY busy during lent. Other than that It truly is an iconic Oxnard restaurant.

Fish is fresh rice is good but the salad wasn’t fresh that was too bad because It was like eating by a dirty trash can. Some how the salad messed up the whole plate, I wish they wouldn’t have placed it there. The place was clean but they scale and gut the fish right in front of you so you get the smell coming off the stainless steel. The food is brought to the table for you and the condiment are on a small table by the front door.

This is a landmark! Just came to relive. Must try their clam chowder ( was warm, ok, not great). Food was ok…. can get teriyaki Chinese here. But why? Had their calamari steak charbroiled. Grilled flavored. Actually very very good texture! Would recommend that! The red snapper teriyaki was good. Would not consider anything else worth getting.

Always fresh! I recently tried the chicken teriyaki bowl with white rice and steamed vegetables, DANK n dont forget the tartar sauce for the white rice. Fried shrimp plate is also BOMB. My Girl loves their teriyaki burger . Salmon & shrimp w/ white rice is also delicious.

Haven’t eaten there in almost 50 years, but it had the best seafood I ever tasted. My friend and I would drive all the way from Agoura just for the fish!

Cool looking spot but I didn’t think the snapper sandwich or chowder was any good. Three spoons of the clam chowder and I was done. This “chowder” isn’t a smooth creamy chowder, it’s more of a starchy, thick soup. The fried snapper sandwich was basically a thin snapper filet with lettuce and mayo on sliced bread.. nothing special, very little flavor. I’d stay away from the sandwich and maybe try a fish plate.

Thought to be an authentic, historic Japanese food (sushi, tempura, etc.) establishment but instead, the food and the atmosphere turned out to be more of a Latino-flavored one. I tried grilled salmon bowl and it was surprisingly delicious and satisfying to my taste. Salmon was grilled with light seasoning, steamed vegetables were not heavily salted (not as your typical Japanese seasoning style), and rice cooked just right. Not a place I would return for “Japanese” food, but it’s a nice, casual place for a quick bite.
