Dined with a party of 5 last night. Service was perfect the moment we walked in and the rest of the night. Food was incredible, as was the wine and sangria. Chris (manager ) provided us with knowledge and recommendations, one of which being a fantastic 2017 Elias Mora wine from Toro, Spain. The Spanish wines at this restaurant are unmatched anywhere else in Charlotte. I recommend the Catalu Paella. Go here and enjoy

We kicked things off at Catalú with their Sangria Flight — 4 samples of sangrias that were all spot on. My favorite ended up being the classic red (easy choice since I wasn’t drinking alone, we were a group of four ).

Then came the tapas: the pulpo a la gallega was delicious — flavorful with a generous portion and tasty sauce — though the octopus pieces were a bit too thin for my taste (I usually prefer chunkier bites ). The patatas bravas had just the right kick, and the jamón croquettes were crispy outside, creamy inside, and vanished way too quickly.

For mains, we went all in with paellas: the black seafood rice and the Valenciana. Both were packed with flavor, and the cherry on top — they were half price .

To finish, I ordered a cappuccino with desserts: churros, Basque cheesecake, and crema catalana. The churros were softer than I’d like and the cheesecake was on the dry side, but the crema catalana was spot on.

The vibe? Modern, lively, and perfect for sharing with friends. Prices were super fair, and the service — led by the manager — was quick and efficient.

Overall, Catalú is a spot I’d gladly come back to for tapas, paella, and definitely another round of sangria ✨.

From the moment you walk into the restaurant, the atmosphere and décor blend elegance and warmth, with traditional touches but a modern twist that makes everything feel cozy and authentic.

The gastronomic experience was exceptional. The black paella was, without a doubt, the star of the night: perfectly cooked rice with an intense, well-balanced flavor thanks to the squid ink and fresh seafood. Every bite reflected careful execution and a deep respect for the original recipe.

The chicken and pork croquettes were another highlight — crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, with a homemade flavor that shows both technique and heart in the kitchen.

The perfect ending to a memorable meal. The crema catalana was a true gem: smooth, delicate, and prepared with a unique technique where the cream is aerated.
It sat on a cookie base that added texture, while the orange marmalade offered an ideal contrast between sweetness and acidity, enhancing the flavors without overpowering them.
Every element was in harmony, resulting in an elegant yet comforting dessert with a taste that lingers in your memory — a finale that shows great attention to detail and creativity in presentation.

The service was attentive and friendly, perfectly complementing the overall experience. Altogether, it’s an ideal spot for a romantic dinner or a gathering with friends, where the passion for Spanish cuisine is evident in every detail.

Special thanks to Eddie for his attentiveness and to Chef Andrés for such an outstanding performance.

Notes:
• The Galician-style octopus was a bit too thin for my personal taste.
• The Basque cheesecake was slightly dry, but I’m confident Chef Andrés is already working on perfecting the recipe.
• Crema catalana: the orange flavor was quite dominant and can slightly disrupt the balance of the dessert if you don’t understand the intention behind its execution.

⭐️ Recommended: black paella, croquettes, crema catalana, and a red Spanish sangria to complete the experience.

Service was great. Paella was great. Flight of sangria sampler was great. There was plenty of seating and food arrived quickly. One of the better Spanish restaurants I’ve ever tried! Highly recommend to visit when in Charlotte as it in very close to the light rail station.

Food is pretty good! Went for V-Day and it was a nice experience. The sangria pitcher for $34 was a decent price and good drink. We did 7 tapas and enjoyed them all. We will come next time during happy hour since all tapas are half off during that time.

Chose Catalu for my 1st birthday dinner. Yes, I said 1st. I celebrate all month long! 7 of my friends joined me for dinner and everyone left satisfied. My favorite dish was the Pulpo A La Gallega. It was delicious. My friends had the Scallops, the Rabo De Toro, the Veggie Flatbread, the Piquillo Pepers, the Broccolini, the Grilled Asparagus, the Marinated Olives, the Arroz Con Setas, and the Grilled Steak. I also ordered the Gambas Al Ajillo. The shrimp were cooked well, but I wasn’t blown away. I would definitely recommend Catalu. We enjoyed it. One thought for the owner, when you acknowledge a guest is there to celebrate a special occasion, maybe offer a complimentary drink or dessert. Would be a nice touch and enhance the experience.

Fantastic atmosphere! I took my fiancé there for Valentines Day. No reservation but the hostess found an intimate table for us. Jordan was awesome! We left our reading glasses in the car and she detailed the menu with such patience. Food, drinks, and music were all amazing. Wonderful experience!

We had an AMAZING experience here! The service was absolutely top notch, the food was delicious, and the staff did a wonderful job accommodating our large group for a Galentine’s reunion. Everyone was so friendly and attentive.
Only tip: avoid the parking garage if you’re staying over 2 hours, as it gets pricey. Otherwise, highly recommend!

Dinner with friends on Friday night. Reservation recommended – the restaurant was completely full when we were there. Casual.
Tapa style food – food selection was limited but alcohol list was rather comprehensive. Flavorful except the market fish (NC trout) was pretty plain. Paella was great.
Charcuterie board was served with the wrong selection and our server helped correct it. The restaurant seemed to be a bit understaffed as our server also had to take care of the guests standing at the bar so I had to go to the bar to ask for dessert and check. She was being helpful but just too busy to check in with us.
Parking validation for 2 hours; definitely a plus given the south end location.

We had a wonderful experience at Catalù Restaurant! The Grilled Steak tapa with blue cheese was packed with flavor, and the Paella Valenciana was perfectly cooked—ideal for sharing. We were pleasantly surprised to find out they offer half off all Paellas on Sundays, plus great specials on food and drinks throughout the week. For dessert, the flan was creamy and delicious. Shoutout to Alejo, our server, who was truly top-notch—friendly, attentive, and made our night even better. We’ll definitely be back!
