I ordered the snapper (green beans, pesto, toasted almonds) and the steak frites (garlic rosemary hanger steak, french fries, mustard sauce) and both were excellent. For around $40 a plate, the kitchen is delivering.
The service, however, was a different story. I was the only guest in the entire restaurant and it still took 15 minutes to get a ginger ale, after asking three separate times. My food took over 40 minutes. When I flagged down the host to ask for an update since my server was nowhere to be found, he told me it would “be plated.” Five minutes later, still nothing. My server came to the table maybe five times the entire visit.
For a completely empty restaurant at this price point, that’s hard to overlook.
The space itself is beautiful, modern, moody, great for a date night or content. Parking is $15, so factor that in. There’s real potential here, and I hope the service improves because the food deserves better support than what the front of house is currently offering.
We had steak frites – the meat is tender, tasty, just right. Look at that pink color.
Frites – top 3 in my life.
Great service.
We’ll be back.
We were quickly accommodated and Hailey came over to greet us with our selection of sparkling water. She was friendly and genuinely excited by the menu as she gave her highlights and favorites. She made our brunch delightful and we really enjoyed her conversation. Then, we received our cocktails! Amazing The coocoo for coco puffs was a delightfully original. At this point, I asked Jay, the Bartender, to whip me up a bourbon cocktail of his preference. Again, Amazing! I think I found my new cocktail bar – only 10 minutes from my house. Our menu highlights were the burger and shrimp and grits! Perfect portion size and flavor profile in the shrimp and grits.
The best part of Hotel Phoenix is the thoughtfulness to include Atlanta in the decor and art. The art is phenomenal and placed throughout the hotel. This is so fitting for the area as it nods at Castleberry Hills, the arch district of Atlanta, which is only two blocks away. We were received by Aronta. He was amazingly hospitable as he gave us a tour of the grounds. He explained the concept , the decor, and the future direction. I just really loved hearing the passion he has towards Hotel Phoenix and the staff as it was obvious that he was revered. He sold us on becoming guests expeditiously as our next staycation is due in March (My Birthday!!). In the meantime, we’ve found Zephyr as a place to indulge in thoughtful cocktails and upscale southern cuisine. We look forward to our future stay.
I sat at the bar, where Jay was my bartender and let me tell you, he was amazing. Both Jay and Bri took such great care of me the entire evening. The service throughout the restaurant was A++++, from the valet who personally escorted me inside to the host at the stand who greeted me with a smile. The team made the whole experience feel warm, intentional, and elevated.
I started with the crab cake, which was just okay, not bad, but I’m hoping the flavor profile evolves as they refine things before the grand opening. The Cacio e Pepe was also okay. It was creamy and simple.
Now, the star of my night? Jay’s mezcal lemon drop. It was phenomenal. Perfectly balanced, smoky yet bright, and hands-down one of the best cocktails I’ve had in a while. The drink menu overall was impressive! It was creative, well thought-out, and full of unique flavor combinations and liquors you don’t typically see on most Atlanta bar menus.
The Hotel Phoenix itself is stunning! It has sleek lines, modern art, and that kind of quiet luxury that feels fresh and new for the city. Once Zephyr hits its stride, it’s going to be a beautiful addition to the Atlanta skyline and dining scene.
I’ll definitely be back once they officially open to try more dishes. The service alone makes it worth a return visit.
I had the shrimp and grits, chicken fried steak, and chicken and waffles. Everything was PHENOMENAL . The shrimp and grits were creamy with big, juicy shrimp and just the right seasoning. The chicken fried steak had that perfect crispy coating and tender steak inside, with gravy I couldn’t stop eating. Chicken and waffles was exactly what I wanted—crispy chicken, fluffy waffle, great balance of sweet and savory.
Drinks were a highlight too. The “It’s Noon Somewhere” was refreshing and easy to drink, and their Bloody Mary was legit the best I’ve had in a while—spicy, well-balanced, and it actually fixed my hangover.
Solid portions, great service, no complaints. I’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a solid brunch. 5 stars easy.
