I love that Modern Maki at Zocalo is queer and POC owned and staffed. Everyone working here is so friendly! I love the Fuego Roll, and especially the Shrimp Udon, which they have after it starts getting chilly. It’ll warm your belly every time. Don’t forget to try their boba milk tea! Honeydew is my fav!

I have ordered here more than 10 times and it is always soooo fresh, fast, and friendly. It’s also priced on the low end compared to other sushi spots. I love that the sushi rolls are perfectly bite sized and the appetizers are all $5.

Update: sushi burritos are bomb and I come here at least once every two weeks. It’s my favorite to go place!
I love this food so much. The rolls are amazing, even the california roll which is imitation crab and I usually don’t like that. The smoked salmon was killer and the spicy tuna is so flavorful. The people that work there are so kind and work hard to make it a good experience. I will keep coming here, especially during quarantine. Can’t wait to try a sushi burrito!

Great sushi! Usually most places put more rice than fish. At Modern Maki you definitely get a lot more fish than rice. I ordered the Packers Burrito. The sushi was really fresh. Very flavorful and great textures all wrapped up. I highly recommend!

My favorite sushi in Milwaukee (Maybe even anywhere)! Who knew amazing sushi could come from a food truck? My husband & I absolutely love it here. The Brewers sushi burritos, Dragon rolls, Dumplings, Spicy Tuna & boba tea are my favs, but really everything on the menu is great.
I’m also very picky with seaweed wraps, because some places have hard to chew & overly textured. I don’t have that problem at Modern Maki! Their shrimp is always so tasty & crispy in the Dragon rolls, that it could be one of my favorite shrimps ever. But probably my absolute favorite thing about this place is the rice in the sushi! It’s always made for perfection. So soft & magnificent.

I wanted to honor the effort to upscale the food options in downtown Waukegan so I picked up two sushi rolls for dinner from the food truck. $25.00. The employee was a young teenage American woman. She was very nice but not what I expected to see as a sushi chef although very accomplished at processing payment and tip. Presentation was very nice, but this was the worse sushi I ever tasted. The crispy role was $14 and soggy with no taste or texture. Everything tasted refrigerated. Nothing fresh. No thank you.
