This restaurant lives up to the hype that you hear about it!! Yes, I stood in line in the cold for an hour waiting for the doors to open. Yes, when it did open it didn’t take long to be seated and people that had to step aside to wait for their remaining people to arrive, they didn’t wait long to be seated either! Now let’s get into the raw bar section; the bluefin tuna belly toast was something I didn’t know my palate needed. I love how the oysters had little descriptions of how they tasted, that was very helpful. Ordered a few dishes from the small plate section and they were amazing. I wish I would have ordered double of the lamb ribs because they were so tender and seasoned well. The grill oysters were like a journey of flavors in my mouth that I couldn’t get enough of! The chili garlic shrimp from the large plate section is one of my favorites, it’s a delight in every bite. Last but definitely not least was the whole flounder with the ginger scallion sauce and it was tender, juicy, and flavorful in every bite. I enjoyed this dining experience very much because the staff was very attentive and helpful. My waiter Hunter was so kind and he had wonderful recommendations on the dishes. I will be back and I know it’s still going to be amazing!!!
P.S. My best friend use to reside here, it was an apartment before being converted to a restaurant. So my experience was nostalgic.

Been 3x times, worth the wait. Plan to arrive between 3:40pm and 4pm, there will be a line. Dress according to the conditions and be prepared to stand/bring your own chair. There is limited outside seating. At 5pm, you can choose to be sat immediately or secure a spot to come back later.

Highly recommend the caviar sammich (small but oh so delicious), golden tilefish tempura, grilled oysters, and chili garlic shrimp.

Service is impeccable and every employee is knowledgeable about the menu.

The Hungry Detective and Special Agent Deirdre had the most fabulous experience Sunday night at Chubby FIsh…Let me start by saying I usually don’t stand in line for an hour and a half but it is definitely worth the effort!!!

The doors open promptly at 5 PM and we got a great spot at the bar. I would also call it a chef‘s table where you can see all the action firsthand. We ordered a great bottle of Gruner wine that was lovely

SERVICE: Haley went above and beyond the “Call of Duty” and knows her stuff and the menu as she made great choices and expert advice…Haley made our night and dining experience!!! A true rock star!!!

FOOD: We started with the Wahoo small plate and the fish was flaky white and cooked perfectly in a light tempura finish.

Second: We’d had the Red Drum that was served up in a bowl of cabbage and this incredible broth…We could have had a bowl broth with bread as a meal it was so good!!!

Third: Lamb ribs that fell off the bone…superb!!!

Fourth: Gnocci and mushrooms…I wish we had this first because it was incredible but we hit the wall at this point!!!

NOTE: As we sat and watched the staff prepare the evening courses like a well oiled machine. I noticed a whole fish snapper being prepared that was $68 and looked fabulous. It definitely could’ve been a plate for two people… next time I think we will save room for the whole fish it looked wonderful!

VERDICT: Guilty is sin as and well deserved of a Michelin star Chubby FIsh truly knocked it out out of the park. The attention to detail was over the top and everything tasted wonderful. I can’t wait to return.

One of the best places I’ve been in a while. Everything was so good. I tried the Xavier sand which and the garlic shrimp and rice. For dessert I had the Stroopwafel sandwich. Ally food was so good and there were so many other good things on the menu I wanted to try. My only downside was the dessert. I expected more of Stroopwafel but the dessert was like a chocolate covered ice cream sandwich wasn’t my fave but wasn’t awful. Other than that great experience

Every single dish was so amazing. The caviar slider is a must and the baked oysters were so good we ordered twice. All the dishes you will see pictured were amazing. The raw oysters and the scallop were superb. They also have the most curious dessert which is a fried “chicken” leg. This place is a must go to.

The food was incredible! Super fresh, innovative, and flavorful. Service was good as well.

Would I visit again? Sure, if I could make a reservation! After waiting outside the restaurant in the cold for over an hour at 415pm just to get the “privilege” to be able to make a 945pm reservation for the same day, I feel like the food quality (while amazing) didn’t fully equal the effort put in to actually eat there. Great food, but make sure you measure the true cost to really eat there!

My fiancé and I visited Charleston to celebrate a very special week—my 40th birthday which my fiancé proposed to me on!—and Chubby Fish made it truly unforgettable. We dined there our first night in town and were absolutely blown away. After trying another well-reviewed restaurant the next evening and leaving feeling underwhelmed, we decided to return to Chubby Fish—and that decision turned everything around.
The moment we walked in and mentioned our celebration, the staff treated us like royalty. Dani and Kate were beyond kind and attentive, making us feel like VIPs the entire evening. Every dish that came to our table was a masterpiece—fresh, innovative, and hands-down the best food we’ve ever had. And we don’t say that lightly.

What really left a lasting impression was meeting the owner, James London. You could see how personally invested he is in every single dish. His passion and care are evident in every plate that leaves the kitchen. It’s rare to witness that kind of dedication, and it made the experience even more meaningful.

The atmosphere is warm and intimate, buzzing with the kind of energy that tells you something special is happening here. It’s the kind of place you never want to leave—and certainly the kind of place we’ll never forget.

Thank you, Chubby Fish, for making such an important moment in our lives even more magical. We can’t wait to come back.

Not much to say that hasn’t already been said. Simply amazing meal. Got in line an hour prior to open on a Thursday evening. Got a seat in the first seating. Proceeded to order until the server said “thats plenty”, then ordered a little more. The caviar sammiches are a requirement. The gnudi was hands down the best pasta dish I’ve ever had in my life. The blue crab toast was magical, all that flavor but didn’t over power the delicate lump crab. The lamb ribs were cooked absolutely perfectly. And many others. Well deserved success. Cheers!

Chubby Fish is such a gem! The service was amazing—our server was both attentive and genuinely welcoming, making the whole experience feel special. The dishes were unique and thoughtfully prepared, with the concept of shareable plates making the meal even more fun and interactive. It felt like a true dining experience rather than just a dinner. On top of that, they were extremely accommodating of allergies within our group, which made us feel comfortable and cared for. Highly recommend if you’re looking for creative flavors, excellent service, and a memorable night out!

Great meal at Chubby Fish! This place serves incredibly high-quality food and creative dishes. I definitely recommend the caviar sliders, curry oysters, and the bone marrow with fried shrimp. The service was attentive and the atmosphere lively, making it a fun spot for a night out. The only drawback is that it gets very loud inside, so it’s not the best choice if you want a quiet dinner or are with people you don’t know that well. Overall, it’s a must-try Charleston gem for adventurous seafood lovers!
