I went to El Cilantro Restaurante and honestly the experience was disappointing. The food was fair, but it didn’t taste fresh. The pork especially tasted like it had been sitting for a while and reheated.
I mentioned it to the waitress and she said it was fresh, but it still tasted old and not freshly made. Overall, I was not satisfied with the food or the service.
I expected much better.

My wife and I were in Charlotte for the RV show. Afterwards, we decided to grab something for lunch and after a quick Google search, we decided to give El Cilantro a try. When we arrived, there a couple of customers waiting on to go orders. We were seated immediately and our waitress quickly took our drink order. Our drinks were brought to our table and our orders taken. I decided on Papa Rellena for an appetizer and the Tripleta sandwich while my wife opted for the Cuban sandwich with Tostones. My Papa Rellena was just like I remembered having when I was a child in the South Bronx which is to say, perfect. The rest of our food was excellent as was the service and the staff. Needless to say, El Cilantro comes well recommended!

This plate is called “sancocho”
I enjoyed yesterday, 8/29/2024. It’s the new way to make a sancocho with mofongo inside wow! I just love it ❤️ I don’t know what you put into that mofongo that tastes amazing . God bless you always! Thank you very much for the service. The dessert was very good. I ordered “tembleque” with real coconut flavor.
This place is another thing that you can enjoy our plates very delicious and very good puertorican food. I recommend 100%. They sell malta india from the island and other good and delicious beverages.

Anyone in the Charlotte area knows there is a short supply of great tasting hispanic cuisine, and today we found a hidden gem. Puerto Rican style food did not disappoint. My go to meal is always the steak and onions, paired with white rice, black beans and either tostones or Maduros. Also was able to try the mofongo and was so tasty. Staff was friendly and very helpful talking through the menu and recommendations. Highly recommend if you are in the matthews/mint hill/ Charlotte area. Will certainly be back again soon! 5 stars all the way.
