Our server An was wonderful! We had tofu pad Thai and panang curry with tofu, both were delicious My hubby also got a beef dish, which he liked. Love that they have boba tea too! All in a nice, chill atmosphere with plenty of condiments at the table.

We came to Nickel City in Pinellas Park to celebrate my cousin’s birthday, and it turned out to be such a great experience. The atmosphere was relaxed but lively, and the staff were genuinely friendly – they made us feel right at home.
We ordered several dishes, but the highlight for all of us was definitely the Vietnamese caramelized fish. The flavor was incredible – rich, savory, and perfectly balanced with the rice. You can really tell they take their time and cook everything with care.
The food did take a little while to come out, but it was absolutely worth the wait. Everything arrived fresh, hot, and full of flavor.
If you’re looking for a place to enjoy authentic food and good vibes, Nickel City is definitely worth a visit. We’ll be coming back for sure.

An Unexpected Gem – A Feast Worth Every Bite!

What a pleasant and completely unexpected surprise! We stumbled into this spot on a quiet Sunday afternoon and, I’ll admit, we were a little nervous when we saw the empty dining room. But let me tell you—this place is seriously underrated.

The menu? Massive. Vietnamese, Thai, and American options, which can sometimes be a red flag, but we were feeling adventurous. Having lived in Asia, my husband and I knew we had to do a full-scale taste test—aka, order way too much food.

The Feast Begins:
Appetizers: The gyoza didn’t wow me, but the crab Rangoons? Chef’s kiss. Crispy, creamy, and packed with flavor.

Sushi: We tried the yellowtail sashimi and a roll—both were fresh and delicious. Major points for the roll size! I hate when sushi rolls are so massive you have to unhinge your jaw like a snake just to take a bite. These? Perfectly portioned.

Pho Challenge: My husband, in a moment of pure confidence (or foolishness), bet our server Huy that he could handle the large pho. This bowl was comically huge. I regret not taking a photo with his head next to it for scale—it was that big. (That’s what she said.)

Red Curry: My personal go-to at any Thai restaurant, and wow. One bite transported me straight back to my favorite Thai spot in Okinawa, run by the sweetest Thai couple. Rich, fragrant, and packed with authentic flavor.

Pad Thai (To Go, Because YOLO): Since we don’t live super close, we figured, why not bring some home? No regrets.

Was this an obscene amount of food for two people?

Abso-frickin-lutely. But here’s the thing—we’ve been searching high and low across Tampa for solid Asian cuisine, and this place delivered. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and honestly, exactly what we’ve been craving.

The service was fantastic, the staff was incredibly friendly, and the best part? Our bill—with all that food plus four Sapporos—came in under $100 (before tip). And speaking of tips—please tip your servers well!

We’re already planning our next visit. If you haven’t checked this place out yet, do yourself a favor and go. You won’t be disappointed.

Great little dive bar with sports bar food and delicious Vietnamese food. Sushi after 4pm. The pho and spring rolls are so yummy, the red curry and beef pad Thai are also really delicious eats. Bottled domestic beers only. $3.50 mich ultra bottles and good prices on buckets of beer. The bar tenders are all very sweet and Rachel is my fav! The local regulars are all really nice people and I always feel safe and comfortable there any time I come in. I love this bar!

Very simple looking interior but then they brought out the food… unexpected greatness!
Gyoza was nothing special but has a great dipping sauce. Crab Rangoon was very nicely done and great flavor.
Here’s where we have fun… when ordering pho and the dude laughs and says “you should get the large” please beware! It was massive! Ate every bit but still was massive. Great aromatics in the broth and a lovely, light meal (if you order the regular). Share the large with a friend or prepare for a food coma.
The pad Thai is some of the best I’ve had in Tampa Bay (my opinion is based on living in Asia for a few years, not just local haunts).
The sushi was lovely, light and fresh. Yellowtail sashimi was very tasty as well.
Not a bad meal came across our table.
Highly recommend swinging by this place for a taste of Asia.

An was very nice and attentive. He always somehow knew what we were needing without saying it out loud. We accidentally didn’t get the hours of operation right and they were still super nice and patient with us. 10/10 was very good and everything on the menu looked incredible. I ended up getting the Bo Kho and it was delicious. My wife got the chicken pho and that was even better. The Fried pickles were also super delicious. Would recommend!

I am admittedly a strong critic when it comes to sushi. But when several friends recommend a spot, I feel obligated to give it a try. Nickel City Sushi in Pinellas Park was honestly just meh. They cannot even get the rice right. It tasted like typical Vietnamese rice with little to no rice vinegar and it was dry. That alone sets the tone for the rest of the meal.

My friends originally told me to check out the buy one get one roll deal during happy hour. I guess I waited too long because now it is simply two rolls for twelve dollars, which is only a small two dollar savings. The shrimp tempura roll was fried nicely and still crispy, so that was a plus. The salmon tuna roll was fine, nothing special. A little avocado or cucumber would go a long way in adding texture and flavor. I did like that the rolls came in eight pieces instead of the usual six.

They sprinkle a tiny bit of masago and sesame seeds on the outside of the rolls. That should really only be mentioned on the menu for allergy reasons because the amount is so small. Yet they list it like it is some kind of bonus, which is a stretch.

We also ordered the fried egg rolls, which came out piping hot, but they were small and skimpy at two for five dollars. The wrapper was too thick and the inside was too dry. I know several places that offer three large egg rolls for the same price.

For an old school looking bar, they have a decent sized parking lot and ample amount of tv’s if you want to see some sports. They have a few pool tables, variety of arcade and slots, along with a ton of dart boards (both traditional and electronic). Its a low key vibe of old locals for the most part.

So far, I am not overly impressed with the food. I might consider coming back to try some of their other dishes like pho. Prices are not too bad, the service was quick and friendly, and the drinks were crazy cheap. If I do end up returning, it would probably be for the cheap beer more than anything else.

An usual little gem of a place. Reasonable prices and low key casual Asian and American food. Whether you want sushi and a burger or pho and wings, it’s here. Out back is a dive bar that stays very busy. Up front is a small restaurant that serves the food in a simple environment. Overall the food quality is right in line with the price. If you can’t make sense of the place, that’s okay. Just come for something very basic to munch on or try something more exotic to remember. Either way you will enjoy the experience.
