Taught Pre-Licensing I today and stopped in at El Pulgarcito Authentic Salvadorian Cuisine for an early supper. Katrina and I had Desayuno Pulgarcito with over easy eggs. Robert N. Hoff had Pupusas Camaron. We also Yucca salad.

This humble, hole-in-the-wall serves delicious and very authentic Salvadorean food. The breakfast staple of sweet plantain, avocado, refried beans, and cheese, with han n’ eggs prepared perfectly as requested, was amazing. I also tried the most typical dish, a pupusa revuelta. It’s a style of tortilla stuffed with refried beans, cheese, and pork rind, to be eaten with slaw and tomato sauce on top. It is delicate and delicious. They also have other varieties of Pupusa. I can’t wait to return for lunch. If you’re near Nashville and want to take a break from all the chain restaurants, I suggest taking the drive to El Pulgarsito in a heartbeat!

Everyone was super helpful and the food was great! We tried a sampling of all the things. Since everything is made of corn I could eat all of it. The pork and cheese popusa were especially good.

Authentic Salvadorian Cuisine!!! The food was great! I went there with my family and we all enjoyed our meal. Everything was fresh and the servers were kind and attentive! We ordered pupusas, tamales, plantains and empanadas to get a feel for the restaurant as well as horchata. I definitely enjoyed this spot compared to other Salvadorian restaurants.

First time tried El Salvador food. Somewhat similar to what we ate in Ecuador. Ordered steak plate and chicken soup. It took a little longer for food to come Steak was rather thin than what we expected and little dry. Soup was nice. It had whole one leg inside the bowl and vegetable. Vegetables and chicken were cooked very well and all of them were so soft and tasty. Since they cooked so long soup had all the umami from chicken and veg I stocks and that made soup extra tasty.

Ordered chicken and beef plates and they’re amazing. Love the beans, thick corn tortillas almost like a bread texture. This place opens early and good alternative for breakfast.

I love when you go into a restaurant and the server can answer all of your questions without guessing, or high brow thinking because they know what is going on. El Pulgarcito, is a bit heavy, being a bread based culture but we were not disappointed we had to drive to Madison to enjoy dinner. Our server was attentive without being annoying and our food was delicious! We will be back!

Disclaimer: I’ve never had pupusas before. If pupusas are supposed to taste like the one I got here, then give me more! I ordered the Pupusa de A/P. Tortilla had the perfect amount of toastiness to it and the filling was flavorful. One was enough to fill me too. The slaw that came with the pupusas was tasty as well! It had some kind of vinaigrette that made it tangy and a good pallet cleanser after having a lot of hot sauce with my papuasa.

We also ordered some Yuca Frites, but they looked so good I dug in right away and forgot to take a picture. They were hot and crispy when they came out. The tomato sauce they put on top was so good too! We’ll be coming back to try more of the menu for sure!
