Daimanya: AYCE Japanese food in Richmond – Sincerely, Loewe
Daimanya, 4160 No 3 Rd, Richmond, British Columbia V6X 2C2, CA
Reviews
Having tried numerous AYCE places throughout SoCal and many foodie destinations throughout US and more,
I think decent quality and steady pace of food should be the bare minimum for spots like this, especially at $55+ USD per person, but neither was achieved by Daimanya. Waited for 40+ minutes for foie gras which was mediocre at best, served on cold, soggy slices of baguette. Ankimo that literally tasted like pureed tuna… Lukewarm sake steamed clams. Subpar quality sashimi with limited selection… none of the 20+ small dishes we ordered were impressionable. Our party of 3 became full just waiting for the food. The overcooked lamb chops and the small and limited servings of tempura lobsters were the only semi-decent items. Like most ayce places, different servers were serving us but some just dropped the new dishes off at the edge of the table and left, when the middle of our table was completely empty…not even making an effort. We will certainly not compare this place to any proper sushi joints, but even compared to the dozens of AYCE sushi places we tried, this comes near the bottom.
If the management is content with regular customers, great for them, but if they want to impress new customers, they have to make quite a bit of improvement in food, efficiency and service. Til then, we will stay away and won’t recommend.
Even though the price is on the higher side for AYCE in Richmond, the quality of the food and the service were top notch. I love the sashimi especially the scallop sashimi was very fresh. Food came very fast. Server was nice and attentive.
The restaurant itself was small but it wasn’t noisy. Seats were well spaced out. We sat at the bar top and the seats were super big and comfy.
There are a few restaurant-specific parking spots at the front and many paid parking spots in the remaining lot. Definitely reserve seats beforehand or you will need to wait.
However, one thing that really took away from the experience was the condition of the tableware. Several plates and even a glass were chipped or broken, which was surprising and a bit concerning. It’s something that can definitely affect the overall dining experience and safety.
I hope the restaurant can improve the quality and maintenance of their utensils and plates, because the food itself is great and worth coming back for once this is fixed.
The pricing was absolutely worth it, and what stood out most was how genuinely passionate Will was about creating a great customer dining experience rather than just focusing on profit. The entire staff was warm and welcoming, and every dish was served quickly.
Overall, this was a 10/10 experience. I will definitely be recommending this restaurant to friends and family and look forward to coming back soon. Thank you Will and the entire restaurant staff. –B
My Mom got 50% off from original price since her birthday just passed one day. Otherwise she got free. The owner is very generous person, he kept asking us to order more dishes, but we were full . After the meal, they gave us a Japanese popsicle.
We chose the $88 AYCE, and the experience started off well — the sushi and sashimi were fresh and flavorful, though the portions were quite small. Unfortunately, things went downhill once the hot dishes arrived.
The oysters were overcooked, old, and had an unpleasant smell. I also noticed the restaurant reuses oyster and scallop shells — something I’d read in reviews and can now confirm. The mackerel was served cold, and the BBQ lamb was only lukewarm. I don’t mind waiting for freshly cooked food, but precooked items like these don’t justify the $88 price tag.
We came here because of the glowing XHS reviews, but honestly, it feels like those were paid promotions. There are plenty of better options in Richmond that offer higher quality food at a much lower price.
Will be back again !

The signage says Meet Oyster if you do not read Chinese. I asked the manager why the name difference and he said it’s because this name is tied to their business and liquor license.
The location is right by the Aberdeen Centre Skytrain station so very convenient. The restaurant is at the end of the strip mall. Keep going to the end. There are 4 reserved parking in front of the restaurant. There are other eateries there and not sure if you get towed so only park in the designated parking.
The restaurant is nicely decorated inside. It is not a big restaurant, about 6 tables for 4-6 patrons, 1- 2 person table and 2 party rooms which seat 6-10 people. It’s 2 hours for AYCE even for the party room. Highly recommend making reservations, I don’t think they have room for walk ins.
Our server was very patient in explaining the menu and sizing of each sections.
The food is all you can eat, no a la carte items. We were there for Early Bird Friday night at $78 each.
There were three items that are specialty one order only, so for 2 persons, we can choose 2 out of 3.
A5 Wagyu Shabu Shabu
Seafood hotpot
Deep fried Lobster Tail
Since we didn’t want to get filled up too fast, we both chose lobster tails.. they were small 2-3 inch tails. We did notice on other tables, the Wagyu Shabu Shabu and the seafood hotpot was filled with veggies, soup and tofu, etc.. very filling.
The sashimi was very fresh. We only ordered items we don’t normally eat at other restaurants and it came fast. We also tried the hand cones, Beef Tataki, Tuna Tataki, some sort of marinated abalone.
The hot food was impressive.. items that you would want to try at other Izikaya restaurants but it’s all included here.
We had:
Lamb chops – took a while to get there but nicely seasoned, flavourful not gamey, and good size bites.
Sake Garlic Butter Clams – we love the broth, and about 1/2 lb per serving.
Chicken Wings – crispy skin with juicy flavour full meet inside.
One Bite Beef Cubes – dark saucy flavours and beef was tender.
Crab ball – we thought it will be like the crab balls from Chinese banquet but it’s more of a mashed potato croquettes with the crab claw tip as handle, very tasty but the texture was a surprise.
Grilled squid – so good
Fois Gras on toast – so decadent
Oyster and Scallops Motoyaki – large size and quite rich with the butter and mayo sauce.
Garlic Ribs – full of garlic, and good bites
Deep Fried Oysters – large size and lightly dipped in batter, so good!
Black Truffle Fries – my hubby wanted to try it and it didn’t disappoint. Perfectly crunchy and full of flavour.
Seafood Chawanmushi
Snow Crab Roe Miso Chawanmushi
We could have ordered more as the price is not cheap here, but we couldn’t eat like we were in our 20s. We were so full, we had to cancel our tempura orders We were also served Ice cream popsicle as a sweet finish.
I saved the menu of items we ordered, looks like we barely touched the menu at all.
We are glad we gave this place a try. Pricing was high, the value is there, the taste and preparation of the food was excellent. They also have Birthday special but need total of 4 people and birthday person eat free.
The pricing is better Mon to Thu, before 4:30pm or after 9pm.
The restaurant can be challenging to find. Turn right onto a small road off No 3 road.
