Ate here on April 10. Second time here. Love the booths and lots of dividing walls keeps dining more private and cozy feeling. Especially like that the bar is tucked away, so if you brought your kids they don’t have to be part of that. Patio looks nice. Chips were nice and thick. Salsa descent. Some good vegetarian options. Liked the taco salad. Super quick service. Probably got food within 10 min. Clean. It did smell a little like bleach. I asked for hot water and they actually served it in a ceramic coffee mug, loved that way better than plastic cup.

Our server hardly spoke English, and ignored 2 members of our party. He couldn’t understand chocolate milk, then took the menu to go ask someone what I was pointing at and STILL brought the wrong drink. Our server was pushy and rushed my 6 year old and made her feel very embarrassed. I will absolutely never come back here again. The food was fine, atmosphere fine, but nobody likes being treated like we were at a restaurant.

El Maguey truly stands out as a gem for Mexican cuisine lovers. My recent visit was nothing short of spectacular, especially with their shrimp tacos stealing the show. These tacos were a perfect blend of fresh, succulent shrimp with a seasoning that was just right, making each bite an explosion of flavor. The tacos were served in warm, soft tortillas that complemented the filling beautifully, maintaining that authentic taste one craves from a good Mexican meal.
But the culinary delight didn’t stop there; the jumbo margarita was a highlight in itself. It was a refreshing, well-balanced drink, mixing the tartness of lime with the sweetness of the tequila, served in a glass that was impressively large but befitting the occasion. It’s hard to imagine a more perfect pairing with the spicy, savory flavors of the tacos.
The service was another aspect where El Maguey excelled. My waiter was exceptionally attentive, ensuring my glass was never empty and my dining experience was pleasant and unhurried. The staff’s friendly demeanor added a warm, welcoming vibe to the restaurant, making me feel like a regular even on my first visit. Overall, El Maguey is a must-visit for anyone looking for excellent Mexican food with top-notch service.

I had been traveling all day and my hotel was close. I knew it was Valentines Day so I expected busy, which it was. Server wasn’t friendly. Didn’t take the time to introduce himself or about food. Asked for a margaritas, never asked a size and brought me a jumbo. Margaret’s was good. Food came and half was cold, asked for hot and he brought it back by sliding it on the table and walking off.
Ordered Fajitas. Questionable?

I took my daughter here for her birthday and both of our food was cold. They over charged us for the items we got. They charged us for a different meal than what my daughter order that was higher. I had already paid our bill when my daughter said she thought that it was too high so I asked for an itemized bill. She was right. I will not go back. The waitress never smiled at us. So disappointed.

Celiac tested and approved. I have severe Celiacs and have trouble finding good Mexican food that doesn’t get cross contaminated. They have seperate fryers for their chips and entrees, so the chips and salsa are gluten free and safe. I also got the lunch fajitas with corn tortillas and didn’t get sick or have any intestinal issues. The rice and beans are safe and gluten-free also. I was so glad to try them out and happy how attentive service was to get me the right person to answer my clarifying questions.

Really loved this place!
The food is fresh and delicious, with generous portions served quickly.
Service is excellent – staff is attentive and friendly, and there are always napkins on the tables.
The atmosphere is cozy, with nice music and a clean dining area.
When I lived nearby, I used to come here very often to enjoy everything this restaurant offers. After moving to another state, I really miss not being able to visit anymore.
Prices are fair for the quality. Highly recommend!

This is a great little Mexican restaurant with a full bar. We were visiting Ootelwah and found El Maguey conveniently located by our hotel. Nice, great food, service, and friendly atmosphere. Will eat here again on future visits. Highly recommended.

Dined here for dinner and to my surprise I may have my new go to for Mexican in Ooltewah. Used to my favorite was Amigos in Harrison but this place is much closer and the quality of food is comparable. Will definitely return for another experience. Also kids eat free (one per adult entree) on Mondays and they have $2.99 house margarita specials.
