Egg Shells Restaurant: Our New Favorite Breakfast Spot!
As newcomers to the Lake Zurich area, my family and I have been on the hunt for the perfect breakfast spot, and we can confidently say we’ve found it in Egg Shells Restaurant! After trying several places, this one has quickly become our absolute favorite and our new go-to.
Egg Shells takes familiar breakfast options and infuses them with a unique flair that makes them stand out. The portions are incredibly generous, and most importantly, the food tastes great! Every dish we’ve tried has been delicious and satisfying.
A special shout-out to our server, Cassie, who was absolutely wonderful. She was both friendly and attentive, making our dining experience even more enjoyable.
My family and I highly recommend Egg Shells Restaurant to anyone looking for an exceptional breakfast experience in Lake Zurich. You won’t be disappointed!

They take the “ish” in their 2ish close time seriously, which I respect, so don’t arrive last minute. If it’s slow, they wrap up closer to 1:30. The food and service are always top notch. The donut holes are magically soft and flavorful (so they often are out before 1pm). A medium fried egg is perfectly medium. The deli sandwich combo is generously filled. The freshly squeezed orange juice is from actual orange that are squeezed there.

Smallish homespun sort of breakfast and lunch place with really good food! This is my fourth visit and I’ve been consistently impressed with the food. The sausage patties are excellent – not the usually greasy cheap pork stuff, not overly salted. Scrambled eggs with cheese and salsa were fresh, flavorful – my english muffin was well-toasted like I prefer and the side of fruit salad was fresh and good. My companions skillet breakast looked fantastic – he said it was really good.Our only complaint was discovering that sides of salsa cost $1.39 each and only learning that when presented with the bill. Salsa is normally free of charge and this should have been free or the cost explained before delivering it to our table.

The place was dirty. Floors didn’t look like they were cleaned all day. Coffee cup was not washed.
Waitress was polite, but service was terrible. Only time she was at our table is when we asked for her. Didn’t get what we ordered and was told it would be removed from the bill, but it wasn’t.

This is one of the places that makes you happy when you’re there. The staff is some of the best around. The hostess was pleasant and honest about the abundance of bees on the patio and happily sat us inside. Our server was very sweet and attentive.
This was one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever eaten out. My scrambled eggs were fresh and fluffy. You don’t get that everywhere. Handoff the bone was thick and tender. The hash browns were thoroughly cooked with just the right amount of crunch. The pancakes were not at all doughy but light and fluffy.
I thoroughly enjoyed my meal here and will return because I’m told they have amazing donuts.

Been here 3 times so far! This is definitely my new favorite brunch place! Was here for the 2nd time last Wed 6/12! My server, Miss Tristan, did a great job serving me quickly and efficiently! That time, I ordered the Maximo Skillet (because I LOVE chorizo), along with the Salmon Platter (with a whole wheat bagel and cream cheese), and a side of their awesome corned beef and a side of bacon! Everything was DELICIOUS … which is why I returned for a 3rd time (last Saturday 6/15)! That time, I had Sandra as my server! She was GREAT –unlike the other times I dined here, she also gave me the Specials Menu, which has a ton of great menu items I didn’t know existed! For example, the Pork Chop & Eggs Special, which I ordered (it came with 2 side choices, so I had Cheese Grits and fruit)! I also ordered the Salmon Platter and sides of their AWESOME corned beef and a side of bacon! Everything again, was AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS!! Sandra was very quick, efficient, pleasant, professional, very knowledgeable and the most experienced server I’ve ever had here! The place is nice, roomy/airy, and clean! I will definitely be back!//Just dined here for the first time (Friday, 5-3-2024)! (A friend of mine who’s the most popular server at nearby Italian steakhouse, Lago, referred me to Eggshells, and told me to check out their corned beef!) His recommendation was spot-on! I had a great meal at Eggshells! Their menu’s so big and full of great selections, I couldn’t make up my mind, so I ordered the Irish Skillet (which of course had corned beef as its main ingredient) plus the Smoked Salmon Platter (note: this item doesn’t come with a bagel, so I ordered an Everything Bagel too)!Everything tasted fresh and DELICIOUS! Plus, my server, Kaitilin, did a fantastic job with her fast, friendly and efficient service!

I used to come here all of the time, was my favorite spot. Then one day, they took pork off the menu because they didn’t sell enough of it. That is when I noticed the service went down hill, hard not to. Was eating in and my girlfriend heard our waitress complaining about us in Spanish. Another time I came in and paid and noticed the cashier tried to pocket a $5 from me and short changed me $5. I had to actually call her back and ask for my proper change. I am sure the bagels are still good, but 100% better places in town. It is a shame what has happened here, have not come back since, and probably won’t ever again sadly.

Updated review: ate here again this past Sun with a friend. I had a veggie skillet and friend had an omelet. I had iced coffee, friend had hot coffee. Food was good, coffee terrible (esp the iced…tasted like they used instant coffee and let it cool down), service awful. We were never checked on during our meal; friend had to flag someone else down to get a coffee refill; I had asked for hot sauce and never got any.
Breakfast was fantastic – 2 eggs, sausage links, hashbrowns (which are more like sliced house potatoes – loved them) and cheesy grits. The grits were actually *too* cheesy and I think it might’ve been artificial cheese like Velveeta. So live and learn, next time I’ll get the plain ones. All this good was $10; not bad when restaurant prices are so high now.
Service was a little scattered and rushed but the place was packed and no doubt they’re probably short-staffed like most places. Would def come back for breakfast or to try lunch.

Honestly such a good meal Sunday! Everything tasted fantastic. Biscuits and Gravy are 5 star! Bone in ham is delicious! They have recently moved…make sure you follow them to new location!
