Tobala is so worth the visit! We decided to give Tobala a try and we were not disappointed. The initial entry was warm and inviting, and we were immediately seated. The ambiance was romantic and cozy and the layout was efficient and flowy.
The playlist was great, the service was excellent and the food was impeccably delicious! We almost did not want to disturb it. Everything was spot-on!
The appetizers were small , but fresh, tasty and delish! The entrees were a bit larger in portion, delicious and filling! The prices were steep, but this place serves authentic high quality foods. We were glad that we chose Tobala for our date night! We enjoyed the desserts— the bunuela and the tres leches, I preferred the center of my tres leches not be so distinctively orange-flavored.
We plan to return to Tobala, it was worth the trip!

Dairon is the most incredible bartender you could ever experience at this establishment. He makes you feel at home & gives every single guests the best experience possible. He is so knowledgeable and passionate about his craft, he makes guests excited to try every single cocktail on the menu.
Although the restaurant is pricey, the experience is worth every dollar. My partner & I visit this place at least once every other week for the past six months, it has never disappointed us.
As someone in hospitality, management here is certainly doing something right <3 keep it up.

This is a very laid back place, with a charged atmosphere. Impossible? Not at all. It’s an experience. The food was delicious. I had the baked fish and my wife had the grilled steak, we were both pleased. The wait team was at our back and call. Nice please for a romantic outing.

We stopped by Tobala in Riverdale this time just for drinks and dessert. I had their hibiscus margarita, which was really good — refreshing and perfectly balanced. We also tried their flan de maíz, our first time having flan with that flavor, and it was delicious! It came with a side of sapote, which had a great flavor and texture. Overall, a really nice experience — great place to relax and enjoy something different.

This restaurant was on my list for a while and was happy to finally stumble upon it. Our waiter Johnathan was great, witty, and knowledgeable. We had the draft beer, esquites, tacos de Barbacoa, duck mole, and the pastry/hot chocolate dessert. Food was balanced and delicious. If I had to be critical for this restaurant to reach its peak success- I would say the mole did not come out as hot as it could have (was just slightly warm) and the tacos de barbacoa could have used more balancing and freshness to it. Would definitely recommend and come back

Easily one of my 5 top favorite restaurants in the city – and certainly my favorite in the Bronx! I simply want to try every single thing each time I go. The different type of moles are always a must, and any dish with short rib or crab is really worth getting as well. The carajillo is the best I’ve had. The food is amazing but the vibe is even better- the music is always great, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere transports you to a beach town when you walk in. Perfect for dates, group hangouts, or celebrations. I went with a group of 5 for Día de los Muertos and there was a great energy in the air – we even danced a couple songs with people we met there.

Delicious all around. I sat at the bar during happy hour—which, to my surprise, ran a little longer than expected, giving me extra time to enjoy the vibe and the drinks. The espresso martini was truly to die for—not like any other I’ve ever had. Rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced. Every cocktail we tried had its own personality, distinct and full of layered flavor.
I started with the Tacos de Cochinita, which were tender, flavorful, and packed with slow-roasted goodness. The guacamole was fresh and creamy with just the right amount of lime and heat, served with warm, crisp chips. You could tell everything was made with care.
The service was a standout—attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. They offered helpful recommendations and checked in without being overbearing.
The setting itself felt upscale yet welcoming, with modern Mexican flair. It’s the kind of place where you can dress up a little, enjoy quality food and drinks, and still feel completely relaxed. Whether you’re there for a casual happy hour or a full dinner, this place delivers an elevated experience across the board.

Tobalá is a gem of a restaurant that beautifully blends creativity, flavor, and atmosphere. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a warm, intimate setting with thoughtful decor and a welcoming staff. The menu is inspired and ever-changing, showcasing seasonal ingredients with a strong nod to Mexican roots, particularly Oaxacan cuisine.
We started with the mezcal cocktails, which were expertly crafted — smoky, balanced, and unique. For starters, the heirloom corn tamales were a standout, with perfectly soft masa and rich fillings. The main dishes were equally impressive; the mole was deep, complex, and memorable, and the grilled meats were cooked to perfection.
Service was attentive without being intrusive, and the staff was happy to explain the dishes and suggest pairings. Prices are on the higher side, but well worth it for the quality and experience.
Overall, Tobalá is a must-visit for anyone looking for a special dining experience that celebrates bold flavors and culinary artistry.
Thanks again for a great experience.

I came to tobala with my mom for the first time about a week ago. The place is very aesthetically pleasing. The ambiance is very minimalist and nice. To me that was great. The menu is very limited and for the amount quite a little pricey. The food was not bad but it’s very unique to its style. The Tlayuda was great with the steak. Everything else was ok for me. The service was good, the waitress was very attentive and very informative about the place which I enjoyed.
