I haven’t been here in years. Literally years. The food is legit and so consistent. I was craving the veggie sandwich and it’s exactly like I remembered. Freaking delicious. And the owner still recognized me and remembered that I used to work nearby like 20+ years ago. He always remembers everyone. It’s wild! Highly recommend!

This is a down to earth, old school sandwich shop in the heart of Riverside. It felt like I went back in time, small shop, super friendly service and food was great. Not sure how you totally nail an Italian sandwich, but it was really good, may blend they had in it made it better than most sandwiches I’ve had. Lots of choices for the side and I wouldn’t normally choose the chili but this time I did and it didn’t disappoint. Very flavorful and just the right amount in a side cup. If you are a sandwich guy like me and like to support non-chain and local business, this place is for you. If we had more places like this, the chain restaurants would go out of business.

And then comes the French dip! So, this sandwich does not arrive loudly. It doesn’t need to. It rests there confidently, knowing exactly what it is. Tender roast beef, stacked with care, nestled into fresh bread that somehow manages to be sturdy and delicate at the same time. One dip into the au jus and the moment happens. The bite. The pause. I’ve been visiting The Upper Crust for years, and I’ve never been disappointed. Although I live in Sacramento, I frequently travel to Riverside for work, and whenever I’m here, the egg salad sandwich from The Upper Crust is an absolute must.
If you love egg salad, trust me, this will be one of the best you’ve ever had. My recommendation is to get it on a roll with cheddar cheese—perfection!
The service is consistently excellent. The staff is incredibly friendly, and you can tell they truly value customer service. Once they learn your name, they’ll use it every time you visit, which adds a nice personal touch.
The restaurant itself is cozy, but they have a lovely outdoor patio where you can enjoy your meal while people-watching.

One of the best sandwich shops I’ve been to in the IE! Must be a staple in Riverside. Service was very kind and welcoming. I had a simple BLT but it was flourishing with flavor.

This place was pretty good. I didn’t go with the recommendations, so I might have done it to myself. My wife had the pastrami sandwich, which was awesome. I had the Italian grinder which was average. The potato salad was also average. I recommend trying the chicken salad sandwich or the pastrami. The staff was super friendly and tje environment was also pretty cool.

This place is easily one of Riverside’s biggest secrets. The Upper Crust offers incredible homemade soups, sandwiches and desserts 7 days a week.
I had the pastrami sandwich on a french roll with potato salad and carrot sticks. I wasn’t sure if I’d like the potato salad since I’m not typically a fan and the owner didn’t hesitate to offer me a sample to see if I liked it. I took a bite and was wowed by how delicious it was! It was fantastic, and that’s saying a lot coming from me. They then told me they make it in-house fresh daily, along with the french rolls and other goodies.
While I waited I chatted with the people who run the place and discovered they’ve been serving up sandwiches here for 20 years! When my sandwich came out it was presented beautifully, and served with a smile. The pastrami itself was hot, juicy and full of flavor. The french roll was unexpectedly soft, fluffy and melded to the meat with melted cheese.
Everything I had here oozed with tender love and care and the people inside were great. I can’t wait to come back tomorrow after the Mission Inn and try more of their scrumptious sandwiches!

I had googled gourmet sandwiches near me and found this spot tucked away near Mission Inn…the owner and staff greeted us with a warm friendly smile! The food was delicious! Between our guests we had the pastrami sandwich with a bowl of chili (recommended by the owner), turkey and avocado on squaw, ham and avocado on squaw both of which were accompanied with a bowl of broccoli cheddar soup! All of which were DELICIOUS!! I would definitely recommend and I will be visiting again soon!
