Had an amazing meal at SOMI! Their Korean fries are a great shareable app. Ginger chicken is my meal and it’s the best rice dish I had in a while. Not sure why people are complaining about the price. Their price is comparable to every other fast casual place. I’m working in the industry so I totally understand how much food cost and labor cost have gone up since the pandemic. Proud to support a local business!

Somi was such a wonderful surprise today.
The bulgogi egg roll was the best I’ve ever had anywhere in my life. I don’t take that lightly. I love food. Wow! So crunchy and flavorful! The sauce it came with was amazing and packed a punch. I also poured that on the rice and it was awesome. Loved the bulgogi rice bowl. I’m obsessed with bulgogi. Any time I go to a Korean Restaurant, that’s what I must have. It didn’t disappoint. It was so crunchy and well seasoned. I’ll be dreaming of this meal for a while.
Next time, I’m getting my egg rolls again and trying the spicy tuna poke bowl. I’d come constantly if I lived closer.
Do yourself a favor and eat here. Wow!

4.5 stars. Somi serves food that is inspired by Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Hawaiian cuisines. Prices are average. Customers may access the menu by scanning a QR code on the table and then order their foods. Here, my husband ate a beef ramen, and I ate a vegetable pho. The serving sizes were fairly large, the ingredients were very fresh, and the flavors were very good. The waiter who brought the food to our table spoke to us nicely.

Sunny Egg & Crispy Tempura Shrimp. The Brunch menu was varied & interesting. Once I settled on the tempura shrimp, I noted the excellent service & flavored lemonades. Overall the meal was tasty. 4 long shrimp on sushi rice, with fresh mixed salad greens, dippy egg & pickled veg. The garlic aioli was flavorful, but too fatty for the tempura batter which was a little heavy & slightly greasy and made this dish over-the-top rich. The portion was hefty & generous. Definitely full afterward.

Got the spicy ramen with pork belly and corn. Didn’t wait long at all. Broth is good and spicy. Wasn’t a fan of cabbage though. The pork belly was cut smaller than what I normally get, but thats just me but it’s cooked perfectly. Prices wise it’s bit bad, I paid bout $25.

Ordered takeout that was 75 bucks with tip for two entrees and an appetizer. Portions were insanely small for the 20 dollar price tag (15 for the bok choy appetizer that was six sad wet leaves rolling around a plastic container), and the food was extremely mid. Not authentic Korean by any means and really greasy. I’d have been okay with it if it was like a 14 dollar bowl from one of those “bowl” chains that gives you a ton of mid food, but I’d avoid this spot if you’re looking for something actually good. At least we can say we tried it.

Always a long line to order. Very popular spot in the Galley. Great mix of unique Asian inspired cuisine. Sadly the food was way too salty, had the Bibimbap, had to wash it down with lots of water to afterwards to compensate for all the salt!

I was almost done when I took the pic of my Vietnamese Vegan Pho but believe me it was beautifully presented and delicious, as was all of the food we ordered from Somi and Elevate.

We’ve eaten here probably 20 times over the last couple of years, and after the last 2-3 visits, I’m never ordering from this place again. Even though they were overpriced, I used to religiously order the poke bowls when they still had them (back when they were Federal Galley, before Shaka came to BkSq), my husband always loved the Vietnamese lemongrass bowl– and confirms that the lemongrass bowl is still good!
Beyond that, the quality and selection has fallen down the stairs. Focusing on appetizers that we ordered from the last several visits– summer rolls are always sold out, leaving no options for healthy apps. On one visit, ordered the Korean Veggie Dumplings and a table of 8 or so agreed that they looked beautiful but, incredibly, tasted like nothing at all. The filling just fell out of the dumplings, watery, as if they were boiled rather than steamed and filled up with water. No one could bear to even finish dumpling, they were that bad! Only thing you could taste was the chili oil which isn’t that flavorful at all. On the next visit, ordered the Deconstructed Rangoons– didn’t come as pictured, filling was in a cup instead of spread over the deconstructed wontons. This is noteworthy because the filling is SO hard that even with a fork it was difficult to spread it onto the brittle wontons. Even the wonton chips were cold like they came out of a fridge already prepped. Regular Rangoons aren’t served ice cold, why should the deconstructed version be served ice cold? Cold fried wonton chips are saturated in fat, just like regular hot Rangoon wontons, it’s just that the fat isn’t as liquid as in the hot Rangoon wonton version– which is a bit gross. Didn’t sit well in our stomachs either. And finally, most recently we got the Bulgogi egg rolls which were essentially just ground beef tossed in sauce as filling, which just feels lazy– even regular Chinese egg rolls have cabbage as well. They could’ve done with something in addition to the meat or at least better meat than ground beef… at least use chipped beef or something you can reasonably marinate.
Long story short, the quality and selection at Somi is quite mediocre, especially for the price point!

I’ve been here a handful of times and it is consistently top notch asian comfort food. Vietnamese lemongrass noodles is light and flavorful. The bulgogi beef bibimbap is packed with fresh flavors and perfect rice and pickled vegetables. Good portion sizes. Prices are comparable to the other city kitchen restaurants (about $17-19 for these bowls)
