TOSTONES on the Beach, is a takeout Colombian Stand, located at Palace playland in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Tostones on the beach came to life in June 2019. We like to impress local and foreign people that visit the Town of Old Orchard Beach during the summer time by serving them a new spin on the traditional tostones, the tos-cones (tostones in the form of cones). We also love to surprise our customers with the typical Colombian arepas rellenas, empanadas, authentic tostones, small bites like yuca fries and maduros! We also offer smoothies very popular in Colombia.

Columbian breakfast was yummy. Manager and staff were lovely. Cute decorations in the dining area. Service was a tad slow but they had a server call out sick.

I got the vegan mushroom & potato empanada. It’s interesting. Instead of wheat dough, it’s made with masa. The edge is particularly crunchy. It might be that this isn’t a popular flavor, so they had to make it while I waited. (Bonus, I get a freshly fried empanada for only a 5 minute wait.)

It’s not a whole lot of food, but was the most reasonably priced item on the menu, and it was reasonably tasty, and a new experience for me, a gringa from Philly, never having even heard of masa empanadas before. (I do prefer the wheat dough ones though, but these were still worth a try.)

In my photos, you can compare the size of the empanada with the 2 oz cup of pico (which is fascinatingly made with scallions.)

It sounded like the Maduros (sweet plantains) may be able to be made without the cheese. But I wasn’t going to spend $10 on plantains and guava sauce. (No matter how much I adore fried sweet plantains)

She also said the bowls could also be made vegan (but I’m sure there isn’t a price reduction for leaving off the meat. I didn’t ask, but it’s unfortunately a typical practice)

Come enjoy the beach with authentic Latin food in Maine.
The patacones were perfectly crispy, the chicken arepa was packed with flavor, and the smoothie was the perfect refreshing touch.

I visited Tostones at the beach and was delighted with their arepas. They are generous and full of flavor that truly stands out. The dough is fresh, soft on the inside and perfectly golden on the outside. The service is quick and friendly, which makes the experience even better. Without a doubt, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a good meal.”

Cute little stand offering Colombian fast food in the form of empanadas and arepas. The arepas are okay and the portion is large. Tried the chicken arepa and needed a little more flavor but it is a good option if you are in old orchard beach and want to try something else than pizza and burgers

Probably the best fast-food counter aroind Palace Playland. I had two pernil cones and one side of tostones. Everything was freshly made. The cones kept their crispyness and hold on well the mix of rice, meat, vegetables and sauce. Super tasty food, easy to eat while standing. Really happy of my order.

Used to be good; now nasty. When this place opened it was delicious and everything used to be fresh: even the fried food didn’t feel that greasy because the oil wasn’t old. Contrarily, nowadays anything fried is leaking oil & gives you acid reflux because oil is has been reused way to long : gives food a toxic taste & oil doesn’t flow (drenches & saturates food). As drenched as those tostones are in oil, they are still hard because they are not fresh (precut & frozen). Same for arepas: frozen, old & dry. This place is giving Columbian food a really bad rep. To be fair, the smoothies are still really good. And that should be a separate bar.

Chicken bowl was absolutely delicious, however, for $20 the bowl just wasn’t full enough to be a good value for me. It was not served in the quantity as it looked in the picture on the wall. It was tasty, but I can get a pretty good jumbo pizza around the corner for $20.
