A vibe!!! Absolutely enjoyed everything about this restaurant. The atmosphere is welcoming! There was a Dj during brunch and the music complimented the vibe! The food was soooo good! We had chicken & waffles and shrimp & grits! The drinks were really good! I had a Marshall Marshall Sangria, a strawberry lemonade, and a green tea shot. I will definitely be returning to try other menu items!!

The staff is knowledgeable and kind. The food was great and had generous portions! I indulged in the charcuterie board and catfish. I am usually not a fan of tartar sauce; however, this establishment makes theirs in-house and it’s delicious. The drinks were also tasty and generous. Overall: 10/10 I will be returning.

Visited on a Sunday mid-day and immediately noticed how clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully put together the space was. The decor is darker but not claustrophobic, paired with light R&B at a volume that allows conversation, which made the atmosphere feel relaxed and intentional.

This is a family-run, African American–owned establishment, and that energy is felt throughout the visit. The owner was present and working alongside family members across generations, which added to the welcoming, community-centered feel. Tables are set fairly close, but it naturally encouraged conversation between guests about the food, which felt very fitting for the space. Patrons ranged in age, and the environment was social without being loud.

Drinks were excellent both in presentation and taste. I ordered the Smokey Marshall bourbon drink and the Strawberry Lemon Drop. Both were well balanced and delicious, served with a small illuminated sphere in the drink that created a glow and added a visually pleasing touch without feeling gimmicky.

Food timing was reasonable, and everything was cooked and seasoned well. I ordered fried chicken gizzards, deviled eggs, gravy, fried whiting, mac and cheese, fried wings, and spicy cabbage. The soul food experience was definitely captured. The spicy cabbage is very spicy and may not suit everyone, but it was prepared well for those who enjoy heat.

Pricing felt fair and transparent, with everything on the menu priced at $25 or less. Portion sizes matched or exceeded expectations for the price point. The fried fish came with two pieces, wings were four per order, deviled eggs were six, and the mac and cheese and spicy cabbage were a standard portion.

The space works well for date nights, casual social dining, and brunch. Seating includes smaller round tables toward the back and larger square tables toward the front. I did not notice high chairs during my visit, and the tighter table spacing in some areas may be something parents of very young children want to consider, though it did not appear to be an adult-only environment.

Overall, the combination of food, drinks, atmosphere, and family-driven service creates an experience that feels genuine and rooted in community.

Let me start by saying the atmosphere in this place is very nice. Great people and good service. My issue is with the food and prices. The candied yams looked beautiful but had a nasty slimy sauce that ruined my ability to enjoy them. Also too much allspice and cinnamon and no vanilla flavoring. They look delicious until you spoon them. Terrible! The chicken and fish are great. Cooked well and delicious. The prices are insane. 2 Wings a slice of bread and a small cup of yams cost $18.00. The other meals are quite expensive as well for what you’re eating. Comfort food should not cost as much as fine dining. Otherwise my visit went well and I look forward to returning to see if the yams are improved. I’ll post my edit after my visit.

1949 Winehouse & More is a game-changer for the Old Town area, bringing a fresh wave of excitement with its exceptional soul food, impeccable service, and stylish atmosphere. I have had the pleasure of dining there multiple times since its opening and have always left feeling satisfied. The drinks are skillfully prepared, and the food is incredibly tasty. Do not miss out on the opportunity to experience it for yourself. The owners and staff are truly deserving of praise for their hard work and dedication. I would give 10 stars if I could. This place is a gem!

Portion vs Price isnt good. Taste was ok, and i didnt wait long. But for 2 small pieces of fish with Mac and cheese $21 wont worth it, they could’ve at least gave me a 2nd side. And then my Ginger ale was almost flat… Would I go back; not sure.

My experience on Nov 9th was extremely mediocre compared to what I saw on social media with the influencers. I met my best friend there for our birthday. It started off ok however slowly went downhill. I ordered my food slightly before my friend got there. I ordered pork chops, potatoe salad, devil eggs and mac & cheese. My friend ordered fried chicken wings, string beans we shared the devil eggs as appetizers. One thing I must say on that Sunday, the wings were good as was the dessert wine. The devil eggs were just ok….out of the six I only ate 2, and she had 2..the Mac and cheese was a little dry, I didn’t finish that either. They were out of potatoe salad…mind you by this time it’s about 2:30 pm, they open for business at 1pm. I think what could have happened was when the waitress came out to make me aware that the potato salad was out. I said cool. Soon there after my best friend received the meal she ordered …fried wings and string beans …I didn’t receive pork chops at that time however I figured they would be out soon. I was wrong I never received the pork chops….it was after 3:when I realized my entree wasn’t coming. We stopped the waitress and she was extremely nonchalant and replied we should have told her my entree never arrived. I was a lil frustrated so I just requested the bill and was ready to go. My best friend was extremely upset at how nonchalant the waitress was and asked to see the manager after my bill was $30 not including the entree which again I say I never received. The manager came out she seem frustrated explaining how everything that could go wrong had gone wrong in the kitchen that day. I said ok we get it but I never received my main dish . My best friend explained I was upset because we weren’t offered any kind of solution to my not getting my food. The manger was like well what did you actually eat I said 2 devil eggs, half of the Mac and cheese and my friend gave me a drum from her wing….the manager then says well you ate then . .I said. ..oooooh ok. My friend by this time was beyond heated!.
I told the manager you know you all peeked my attention because of what I had seen on social media. I said your social media presence is very noticable…..that’s what brought us here but I see that was my mistake. It was Y that point when she said she would comp the meal and then asked if wanted something else. I said no ….my friend paid her portion of the bill and we left. I talked about my experience in more detail on my page and one of the restaurant employees decided to hop on the exchange and troll us about tearing up the food and being wasted. If you know us we don’t drink like that. We didn’t finish the wine so no one was wasted or rude to them. I did keep a screenshot of the hostess comments as well as pictures of what I did actually eat……
The wings were good….that’s it

I ordered Deviled Eggs, Catfish with Mac & Cheese & Candied yams. The catfish was seasoned & cooked well but it had a very pungent & wild & taste to it. Perhaps it was farm raised catfish and not fresh from the ocean catfish? I couldn’t even eat half of the first slice before pushing it to the side. The yams at my neighbors table looked so very colorful and delicious. However, when I received mine, they were very dark and heavily coated with sauce which was overly seasoned with way too much nutmeg and vanilla. I couldn’t eat more than a forkful. I then tried the Mac & cheese which was a bit too salty, extremely dry and no sort of cheese pull. It was as if I had received the last scoop in the pan that probably was drying out over a period of time. The best thing I had were the deviled eggs. They were the perfectly mixed and had a balanced consistency. The presentation was amazing. As far as mixed drinks, I had A Petersburg Zoo (not listed on the cocktail menu) & a Peach wine drink. (can’t remember the nam of the drink but it’s listed on the cocktail menu) and both drinks were surprisingly good. I wish they were a tad bit stronger alcohol wise but I prefer to taste the alcohol in my drinks while others do not. The Petersburg Zoo came with a shot of beer or wine. I asked for Moscato and received beer. Luckily I didn’t poor the shot in my drinks while because that would’ve caused a disaster of a night. I let the waiter know and it was as if she was questioning if I was sure it wasn’t Moscato. That sort of annoyed me because I know the difference and the fact that she didn’t offer to replace the shot wasn’t a good service gesture. She just said she’ll discard it and that was that. However, she was very attentive with everything else during the entire visit. She was also pleasant and engaging. The hostess staff & bartenders were superb, friendly and accommodating. The ambiance, atmosphere & decor was inviting, & serene. Overall, my party and I had a good few hours in this establishment. We all agreed that we would go back for the drinks and the deviled eggs. 🙂
