Before there was a shack, and before there was a food truck, there was Thanksgiving dinner. It began with one turkey on a Coleman electric smoker and no real knowledge of how to smoke meat. Fortunately, the smoked turkey was a hit and so began the years and tradition of smoked turkey for Thanksgiving and other holidays. I got better and eventually opened a food truck, and that eventually led to the opening of Johnson’s BBQ Shack. We use only hickory wood and experience we’ve gained over fifteen years of slow and low heat smoking meats, developing our rub, and honing our skills, we are proud to be cooking in a variety of custom-built smokers. We appreciate having the opportunity to bring our product our many customers.

Stopped in here just to check it out. We got the pulled pork nachos and some cheesecake bites. Very clean. Kayla was the absolute best!! The craft root beer and cherry vanilla soda are just fantastic!! We will def be back to try more food!

Came here for my birthday today because I wanted to try the new location. Good bbq, good sauces, good old fashion soda, and (eventually) good beer. Well worth the money for the amount of food you get. Nice country atmosphere, friendly staff, but the seats are a little uncomfortable. They are steal and not a very wide seat, ask for a booth if available. There is another location in bargersville which is very nice and has a big back patio, self serve sauces, self serve sodas, and a lot of beers on tap as well as liquors. The bbq at this location could use a little more seasoning as the sausage tasted like it was only boiled not much flavor on the inside other than a very slight smoke flavor. GET THE JALAPENO CHEDDAR DOGS if you can, they are AMAZING; unfortunately they were out when we went. They also were out of sauce bottles and only had pints. Overall good food, and good amount for prices, cant wait to come back when it is completely finished.

I will be honest, I wanted to rate this higher but I couldn’t. If you are looking for a cool environment to get a drink then visit Johnson’s. If you’re looking for great BBQ then I would look elsewhere. The staff was very friendly. The dining experience was cool. The BBQ itself was underwhelming. I wouldn’t have eaten the proteins without the sauce. The brisket, ribs and pulled pork were all too dry. They either had been overcooked, or hot held for too long. It’s possible that the issue was a combination of both. The sauce at Johnson’s saved the day. I even bought a bottle of the sweet and medium sauce to take home with me. My wife enjoyed the portion of nachos. The amount of different ingredients piled high made for a good plate. Unfortunately, I would say that I won’t be revisiting.

I had to edit my review. From 5 stars to 1 star. Decided to order from restaurant a second time and was highly disappointed. Go early in the day, maybe your experience will be better. I admit I ordered late in the evening. I was served the bottom of the barrel. The pork chops could’ve been used as a hockey puck.

I must say… I LIKED IT! Especially the soda “Please Do” Yes, it taste like Mt. Dew! The reason for only 3 stars is because I’d rather try their meat when it’s fresh, right off the smoker. At this location, thier meat is shipped in. The proportions were surprisingly satisfactory! Green beans are YUMMY! The decor very hip & cool, the old barn rusted look and the bathrooms were really greatly designed too. So, I’ll go check out their Bargersville location & hope for better!

First time here, staff was very friendly, suggested couple menus items, even let me sample some cole slaw(im picky about my slaw). Overall the food was very good. Brisket sandwich with Cole slaw on it. They also gave a little cup of sauce if my choosing for it. The meal came with a side of Mac n cheese which could have been better but alas it was still satisfying, also came with a drink. For the portion sizes I believe the price could have been better tho.

If I had to rate this place I’ll give it a C- minus because it was pretty basic. I had a deluxe spud that was pretty much a loaded baked potato, with pull pork on it. The baked potato was fire, also had a side of mac n cheese which was pretty basic too unless you put barbecue sauce on it.

A 1 star is saying A LOT. HORRIBLE place! Tried the new location in Greenwood where Campbells used to be. Walked in and was ignored by the bartender. She was the only staff member around. We finally sat ourselves after waiting a few minutes. Finally when someone did come to our table(mind you only 1 other table of people were seated in the whole place minus the 6 people at the bar so it wasnt busy). We asked our server about a draft beer..to which her reply was “Im only 17 i dont know ” ..never bothered to ask anyone or have the bartender come over if it was something she couldn’t answer. She had no idea about the crafted softdrinks they had either when my son asked.
We placed our order and got our soft drinks.
My husband had to go to the bar to order a beer, the bartender had no idea about any of the beers in tap..had to look them up and when it was delivered to our table, it was full of head.. so she obviously didnt know how to pour one either.
Once we got our food, my bowl of corn casserole was sooo burnt.. i can’t believe someone allowed it to leave the kitchen like that let alone serve it to customers. So I asked about getting another bowl that wasnt burnt.. (see attached pics). Her reply this time..” i dont work in the kitchen, so im not sure”. She never bothered to go get anyone or a new one.. or ask if i wanted something different..since im paying for it.. do u wanna eat burnt corn casserole?
The ONLY good thing about this experience was the meat.. as always it is EXCELLENT .. but def a waste of a family evening out and $$ for food and drinks that were not even drank or eaten.
