I visit Avalon annually and most locals who work at shops, restaurants, etc. are kind and welcoming except one of the employees working here was very rude when I asked if the coffee was fresh and if it was actual drip coffee. When she handed my sister and I the “drip coffee”, the coffee was lukewarm. All she said is “I can warm it up for you and you came when we’re about to close” — with an attitude. That sounds very offensive, especially when paying $6 for a small cup of coffee. Interestingly, my boyfriend came by the day before to order the same exact drip coffee and his was delicious and frothy, and is the reason why I went to try the same coffee with my sister. However, our coffees were disappointing. Very inconsistent with service and coffee preparation.

I love the wide variety of juices and breakfast options. The veggie breakfast burrito is just okay. I had to put hot sauce on mine. But great big portion size for the price. The cold pressed juices are amazing. Fast service! There are little tables nearby to eat. You get a discount if you stay at the hotel atwater. Staff is very professional.

Had a great stay at Atwater hotel. Decided to get some coffee before we headed out. I unfortunately had Leticia as my cashier. She was extremely rude. She cut me off multiple times as I was ordering. She said chocolate mocha and I asked to confirm that my drink was White chocolate mocha not milk chocolate and instead of saying yes she asked “well what did you ask for?”. I said white chocolate and she responded with “then that’s what you’ll get”. It was uncalled for as she said my order wrong the first time and I was trying to make sure it was correct.

Leticia and Rosie were so sweet and friendly I actually came back a second time on the same morning. They serve Illy coffee for both drip and espresso, which is a personal fave. I only wish it were brewed a tad stronger, but then I like my coffee really dark. Bagel was also very fresh.

Would love to see more vegan options other than fruit, avocado toast, cereal with several alternative milks, and drinks. Great service and friendly staff. Avocado toast was great!

Good coffee, way better than Starbucks. Nice tea selection. Zero gluten free options as all the sandwiches and burritos are premade garbage. My sister has a sandwich and said the eggs tasted frozen. Much better breakfast options at other places in Avalon.

Daniel is the absolute BEST! He made our trip so special and made us feel so welcome. He not only works at the Bistro but the island spa and Avalon Grille. His hospitality is unmatched and you will have the best experience being serviced by him. We quiescently visited all 3 places and he is such a pleasure to be around. If you are staying at Atwater do yourself a favor, grab a morning coffee at the Bistro with Daniel! 🙂

No listed prices nor a menu, gives them the chance to charge what they want. They have food in a display just no pricing. Two chais’ and a two pastries just above fifty bucks. So expensive if you ask me. Oh and both chai tea latte were large and were only half way filled the other half was foamed milk. It was disappointing and not worth all our hard earned monies.

Quick Summary
Given a $20 daily breakfast credit for staying at one of the Catalina Island Company’s hotels, the Bistro at the Atwater was surprisingly good despite the usual letdown of cafes that usually provide this benefit. Solid food and good service: The Bistro at the Atwater was a great start of the day for everyday of our Catalina adventure
Food- 4 stars
We ordered the egg sandwich, the breakfast wrap, the parfait, a cheese and tomato croissant, and the drip coffee (they use illy). Everything was solid, but I would recommend grabbing the egg sandwich or the croissant.
Service- 5 stars
Fast and attentive. Everything you need for this sort of cafe
Value- 3 stars
It is a bit pricy if you are paying out of pocket, but it’s nice to have the $20 voucher from our hotel
Bottom Line
Really solid cafe that did impress, since it seemed like a trap, being a hotel cafe and all. It was quite an enjoyable experience to start out with Bistro at the Atwater everyday for breakfast during our Catalina getaway

How on Earth does this place have good reviews????? First off they didn’t even make the oatmeal….. You have to make it yourself.
Then they didn’t give me my drink!!!, in fact I found out what I thought was my drink was hot water to make the oatmeal myself. Which was “eiw” by the words of my 6yo child. I am now out 30$ because I have no drink and the oatmeal is disgusting AND I HAD TO MAKE IT MYSELF. WHY??? It’s almost $8 and I have to make myself and didn’t get my almost $8 drink? The entire total was $25
Tell me how.
And I came back to my room with fruit milk A STORE BOUGHT OATMEAL UNOPENED and HOT WATER.
HOW.
WHY DOES THIS PLACE HAVE GOOD REVIEWS????
