I Really like that this is not a chain restaurant. It seems like chains dominate breakfast. The restaurant is quite small and has a nice feel about it. Also seems like all of the servers are high school kids, or perhaps early college, and they are trying so very hard to please, which I respect. Service was fast. For the price, however, I thought the food was just average. My wife had the Parisian, which is two slices of French toast, two eggs any style, two strips of bacon or two sausage patties. Nothing special here, and the Ewing’ toast looked kind of like something from the freezer case at Kroger. I had the Sante Fe Skillet, which is chorizo sausage, jalapeño peppers, onions, tomatoes and topped with fresh avocado. One of the smaller skillet meals I have had, and not really in a skillet at all. The eggs were a bit overdone and as you can see the “topped with fresh avocado” was very very sad. I just can’t recommend it. Perhaps the chains are the way to go.

They have the best biscuits. They are thin and very tasty.
Gravy is good. Crepes are not too thick. The chicken fried steak is not your normal cut of meat for a chicken fried steak. Thin cut. It was also good.

Food took an hour to come out with only 1 other table here. Ordered an omelette specifically with extra cheese. See below photo..almotte was burned, had shells in it and barely any cheese. Even without asking for extra cheese this is not an omelette..there’s barely any cheese. small portions not worth the price or wait for food. Waitress was sweet.

First time there and I was highly pleased. The food was delicious and the restaurant was clean. It was busy but it didn’t take long for a table. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The best part was my server. I believe her name was Julia. She was amazing, attentive and friendly. My coffee was always filled and she checked up on us enough to ensure we didn’t need anything. She looked happy and that’s nice to see in a server this day and age.

Other than the service both times I’ve been, this is a nice stop for breakfast. My mother enjoyed the french toast with candied pecans so much my parents went back again before they headed back home. My father had the biscuits and gravy and I had the gluten free blueberry pancakes with a side of bacon. The pancakes were really good, but overpriced in my opinion. My dad isn’t hard to please so he enjoyed the biscuits and gravy.
Both visits were within two hours of closing and we were either the only customers or one of two. The staff which appeared to only be two(in the front of the house)people were busy cleaning and getting ready to close(chairs on tables)that we weren’t checked on and didn’t get refills or other condiments we had wanted.

Service was extremely slow for the lack of patrons at 11am. The water, tap water I’m sure, was disgusting and they need to put in a filtration system. Reminds me out outside elementary school fountain. Even the ice pollutes the sodas. Very clean establishment and cozy. Kind of odd to serve food with no butter or syrup or any other kids of condiments on the table or near by. It wasn’t surprising that an order was incorrect.

5/5 Stars – A Hidden Gem of a Breakfast Spot!
Don’t let the old reviews fool you, The Golden Egg in Bartonville is an absolute must-visit for breakfast lovers! My wife and I were a bit hesitant at first given the low score, but we decided to give it a shot, and boy, are we glad we did. It’s clear that this place has turned things around in a big way.
I ordered the pancakes, and they were, without a doubt, some of the most amazing pancakes I’ve ever had. Light, fluffy, and perfectly cooked, they were pure perfection. My wife, who is a hashbrown connoisseur, was equally impressed. She raved about how crispy and delicious they were, a perfect complement to her meal.
But the real showstopper for us was the coffee. I had the mocha, and it was hot, rich, and so incredibly yummy. It was clear they use quality ingredients and know how to make a perfect cup. The regular coffee was also fantastic, a true testament to their commitment to a great breakfast experience.
The staff was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. It’s a shame the old reviews are still up, because The Golden Egg deserves all the praise it can get. This is a five-star breakfast spot through and through. We’ll definitely be back, and you should go check it out too!
