This place is not necessarily close to the Edinburgh center, but luckily I was staying near Ocean Terminal so I found this place.
I had Battered Haddock & Sticky Toffee Pudding companied by cider.
The portion was already big for std version and I loved the batter and mashed peas. Chips were not crunchy, i didnt like that part.
Finishing up with the pudding was the best idea bcs it’s soooo good. I def recommend. Service was really good.
One good tip is to make reservation or take away.
Also I would say this place is a bit on the pricey side.

I had an absolutely fantastic meal at The Fishmarket in Leith, hands down one of the best fish and chips experiences!
The haddock was perfectly fresh, light, and flaky, coated in the crispiest breaded coating m. And the chips were so thick and beautifully cooked. You can really taste the quality and freshness in every bite.
What makes it even better is the incredible view of Newhaven Harbour. Sitting there, enjoying classic Scottish fish and chips with the sea breeze and the sound of the waves, felt like the perfect Leith moment.
Highly recommended.

My favorite spot in Edinburgh ! Loved everything, especially seafood stew. All dishes tasted good and fresh, decent choice of options. Not sure about the cocktails, tried only prosecco. The restaurant located near the water, on a sunny day good to seat outside.

We had an amazing experience at The Fishmarket, specially concerning the service and the food. I ordered the mussels mariniere and it was truly the best I’ve had (and I’ve eaten it in France and Belgium, which are well known for it). My husband got the classic fish and chips (battered) and absolutely loved it. Jenna attended to us and made us feel comfortable, welcomed and happy – she was great and super attentive. Overall an amazing experience. We paid 19 pounds for each plate, which considering the size of the portion and everything together was very cost-effective. Really recommend it!

Easily the best fish and chips in the UK. Fresh, the batter is unbeatable, and tartar sauce immaculate. We did the smoked salmon and smoked haddock soup – and they were perfect. I’ll be dreaming of this meal for years to come!!! The service was exceptional – very prompt, friendly, and attentive to the needs of my little guy too. Save yourself the tourist traps in the city center and make the trip out to The Fishmarket!!! The walk by the harbour at sunset was so romantic.

Really enjoyed our dinner, we had buffalo oysters to start that were excellent and fish & chips and the goujons. Both were very good, crispy and flavorful. Fish was tender and fresh. We dined in and had reservations which I’d recommend it’s not too big inside. And when we left the carry out line was huge, definitely a popular spot and for a reason.

Food was tremendous. Huge portions and absolutely delicious and extremely fresh. Not sure how it doesn’t have a higher rating. Crispy buffalo oysters were delicious, the crispy squid was good, little on the chewier side than we prefer but very crispy. Main meals were the bartered monkfish which was out of this world delicious. Highly recommended. We also had the smoked haddock cakes. They were very tasty as well but very Smoky flavor if that’s your thing. All their ciders were very tasty as well. Highly recommend this place. Great patio with water views as well.

Wonderful scenic location at Newhaven Harbor. If weather was agreeable, terrific for a sunset with amble paths for post dinner walk. We had 7 in our party and all our dishes were delicious. Service was friendly. The lemon posset was absolutely scrumptious. Not heavy and a light and zingly dessert to end your meal.
