What happened to Lucha Libre Taco Shop? : r/sandiego – Reddit

It used to be great but they got a new owner after covid. Cut back on quality and increased the prices. Really running it into the ground.

Living in San Diego for quite some time, and spending most of my life here, you would think many of the well known Mexican restaurants and taco shops around the city would already be familiar. Somehow that was not the case, so the decision was made to visit a spot that has long been a favorite among locals and visitors. That restaurant is Lucha Libre Taco Shop.

The moment you walk in, the vibrant colors on the walls and the luchadores (Mexican Wrestlers) decor create an energetic and playful atmosphere. Instead of ordering at a counter, guests place their orders on two tablets near the entrance, and the staff calls out your letter when your food is ready. The process felt smooth and convenient.

The food was excellent, cooked with care and seasoned perfectly. The salsas were full of flavor and paired beautifully with each dish.

The staff members were friendly, outgoing, and very helpful, which added to the overall experience.

The food is so good. All of the menu items can be ordered to make with vegan meat. Jackfruit is used for vegan meat. You can taste all authentic Mexican food and vegan. Salsa bar is another highlight, It can satisfy a toddler with creamy sause and an adult as well with insane spicy habenro.

Fantastic atmosphere and theme. Would have received 5 stars of they had luchador wrestling on TV instead of WWE type rerun.

First time here in San Diego, and first time at Lucha Libre. I saw a YouTube on this place for good eats. This place was just ok. Unfortunately there was nothing to rave about. I had the Birria Cali, my wife had the Surf Cali, and my son had the Champion Fries with steak. The burritos had too many fries in it and it was the thick soggy fries. The birria lacked taste which was unfortunate. My wife liked her burrito, but still, didn’t like the fries. My son’s Champion fries was lacking the champion in it. The steak wasn’t seasoned that great, and again, lots of soggy fries. It’s kind of hard to give a good review after going to Taco El Gordo the night before in Gaslamp.

I love how innovatively they keep introdicing new tacos. They are inventive, all the tacos are delicious, well seasoned. Kids love the burritos. And the salsa bar is a bonus with fresh salsas.

The food good and you don’t have to wait for too long. A lot of meat with affordable price. Recommend Surf burrito and queso taco. They have free drink for a review but it’s on yelp

Food: Tasty! The birria taco had a real kick to it compared to others I have bad before. I really enjoyed all three tacos that I had.

Service: Self checkout with minimal interaction with staff, so defaulting to 5.

Atmosphere: Awesome. Just see the other photos.

Overall, closing remarks: Delicious food, but doesn’t come cheap. Somewhere I will likely be eating at infrequently. My chips didn’t come with any salsa or dipping sauce. I might have missed these if they were sitting out for self service. Something to dip them in would have been nice. The chips were hot and good even on their own, though!

Got the queso birria. Was pretty good, a little salty for me but the salsa, chips, and ipa went really well together. Definitely recommend.

Only thing I wish they had was a plain asada taco with onions and cilantro. Sometimes the basics is all you need to tell if a place is good or not.

Food is prepared incredibly quick, staff is very friendly, inside the establishment is full of charm, outside is nice too but the highway is loud (obviously not their fault). Been here a few times, every menu item I’ve had has been delicious
