My wife and I came here the other day, we live just across the street. I’m so glad we visited!
Years ago I visited Sushi Man at their old location, and now that we’ve moved here I’m so glad we are so close!
We had the Karage Fried Chicken, Dragon Maki, Spicy tuna, and shrimp tempura.

Sushi Man is a restaurant with a long history in the Newton area, first being located in a smaller area right off of Route 9 before moving to their current location a few years ago.
The staff are really friendly and make the food quite quickly, reminds me of the service we used to get in the past.
The food was of good quality and how I remember it. It does tend to be on the expensive side for these meals, but was still pretty good and tasted well. The sushi was fresh, with good rice to fish ratio and presented well. The udon had a good broth that went well with the noodles, and had some toppings and sides that were crisp and tasty.

Dear Mr . Sushi Man & Wifey,
Chinese & Japanese Excellence!!
I love Sushi Man & Wifey ;
Why are you so excellent? The freshest sushi these lips have touched . Including the soft shell crab at the most incredible prices . I have travelled 60 counties and no comparison. I thought you closed . Yet you moved to the other side of the street . I have missed three years of your excellence. I am so happy I drove by the other side of the street today to find you . My stomach did cartwheels with the freshness of your sushi and soft shell crab .

Chef Toriyama has some of the best sushi in Boston, hands-down! Little nuances that just make everything pop the vegetables tasted alarmingly, fresh good texture, really stunning depth the flavor. Almost reminds me of picking vegetables out of the garden. Not the usual slightly sterile taste, and texture that you find from modern restaurants.
The way that he seasons the rice is a little bit unique has a nice slightly nutty flavor to it. Really everything was incredibly well, balanced, and thought out.
The atmosphere is also stunning, soft, jazz music in the background sunlight gently fills the room
The staff all seem to know one another and be well connected and the entire vibe just feels warm.
Even the preparation & assembly of each role is different but in a charming and unique way. You can definitely tell that Chef has been at this for over the last two decades.
I eat at least Sushi twice a week and I think this is gonna be my new go to spot.

This sushi restaurant is HIGHLY UNDERRATED! I have eaten Sushi at many places throughout the United States on the east coast and this was the best sushi I have ever had in terms of freshness and flavor. I eat sushi two to three times a week, so you can imagine how high my opinion is of this place. This is not a large place, but it’s just one of those traditional mom and pops places that people would overlook and not go inside. The parking is terrible, the restaurant is small inside, but the people were extremely polite and accommodating. I even walked in five minutes early because I didn’t realize when they opened, and they welcomed my business. They gave me a free appetizer snack, a piece of watermelon for dessert, and some candy. I will specifically go out of my way to return back here any time I am in Newton Massachusetts. These are great people that deserve more business!

I really like this Japanese restaurant! I was in a hurry today so I just ordered takeout. Eel and beef tongue Don is very delicious and authentic. This makes me miss the eel rice and beef tongue that I had in Kyoto and Shanghai many years ago. They were tender and juicy, absolutely fresh and delicious! Volcano Maki is also amazing. The prawn tempura is crispy, tender and delicious, mixed with the rice, tobiko and tuna wrapped around it, making it unforgettable. The environment in the store is also very elegant. Next time I will definitely invite my relatives and friends to the store to enjoy the delicious food.

Some of the best sushi I’ve ever had, and I’ve been to Japan 5+ times and eaten very good sushi overall. The fish is buttery soft, completely fresh, and priced very reasonably for what you get. Definitely the best sushi I’ve had in America. Also super cosy vibe and very good service. Must try spot!!!

New Sushi Man Location (near the old location): If you pass by the former Sushi Man location off of Route 9, the old signage has not been taken down yet (as of September, 2022). The new restaurant location is now around the corner on Jackson Street! Same proprietors and the food is as good as before.
Today my brother and I shared a special plate of Japanese pickles, shrimp and vegetable tempura and grilled mackerel. Wow — so delicious!
Original review: A cosy family operated restaurant similar to many you might find in Japan. The real deal in traditional Japanese food with quality ingredients. They do a brisk take out business as well. Never disappointed in anything we order here! Have been a customer for over a decade.

Really good sushi. Very good quality and creative makimono here. The dragon roll is actually crispy like it should be and all the specials are made very big and super well. The normal rolls are also big and very carefully made with very good quality sushi cuts. It’s not like the majority of the places where you get a little dime sizes roll for 6 dollars. Even their normal 6 dollar rolls are big and delicious. And their specials are all 10-12 dollars and beat most places 20 dollar specials. which is great price. Very cute and intimate little restraunt with great quality. Most of the restraunt is consumed of it’s authentic looking big sushi bar with a nice chef making it all in front of you and then their is 4-5 tables with a waiter for which is where ate and really enjoyed the food. Awsome sushi. 5 stars. Probably my favorite sushi place in and around Boston now.
