I have been trying to get salsa dancing tickets for this place for about 6 months but the price has always been too high à $30 including fees. I finally got early bird tickets for about $19. The venue Itself is a little old but in good condition. It has main floor and a balcony. Main floor has some reserved seats but mostly first come first served. It has two dance floors for dancing. The bathrooms are clean early.
The dancing: it mostly à Latino date night situation with many older couples, women with their partners who can’t dance so they dance in groups and assorted non-Latinos. Most of people are beginners, with a few medium to advance dancers. The people are friendly enough to approach. If you want a good time go with other dancers otherwise it’s hit or miss. Sadly they only play salsa and nothing else . A good music venue and an ok salsa place.

Came here for a concert on a Saturday night. The tickets were pretty inexpensive at about $25 each. Drinks were pricey and low quality. The theater itself needs some updating. Overall, not a bad night as we enjoyed most of the music but venue itself needs a revamp and more organized line entry.
FYI: there are a lot of stairs at this location but they do have an accessible bathroom on the main floor.

Great venue. GA in front of the stage, tables right behind. Better food than I expected.

We went to see the 80s rock band the Legwarmers. The theatre was comfortable for such an event. However, I’m rating 2 stars out of five because before the band started the performance on stage, there was a movie screen showing murder scenes from movies, cutting throats! Also, during the band’s intermission, pornography was shown, really?? It was an 80s event so why not showing the evolution from such era. Music videos, the discoteques from that time. Or to play Fashion videos or simply the 80s music for the audience to keep dancing traveling in our memories with it. In addition, I noticed the security is not that strict. There was not weapon detector and people were allowed to be in the dance floor with beer bottles. Great thing the people from last night behaved as expected but you never know. So, State Theatre management, there is always room to improve.

Went to the movies at State Theare when I was in Jr high (1961 c), Just saw the Roadducks 50th Anniversary show and they were great. The venue is perfect for shows. Loved being there again. It’s a gem of Falls Church.

The State Theater was the best time we’ve had in eons for a night out. The tribute to Journey by the band was unbelievable. We danced the night away. Parking was only across the street 1 block walk. 🙂
My ONLY criticism, please update with bathrooms on ground level. My knees hate stairs. I stopped ordering drinks so that I need not keep climbing up and down. 🙂
That band was phenominal.

Went two nights in a row to see Tribute Bands; Dave Matthews on Saturday night and Billy Joel on Sunday night. Not sure why the difference but the acoustics were much better Sunday night and we even hung out in the “pit” all during the performance. Saturday night acoustics were pretty loud and way too much bass and it was impossible to be in the “pit” without going deaf. In any case, highly recommend bringing ear protection of some sort because the venue is small and the music is loud. Servers work hard to take care of everyone and the bar service is always fast and the bartenders very pleasant and personable. Beer and food item prices are fairly reasonable too. It’s going to become one of our new favorite places to listen to live music and be able to interact with the performers. We’ll definitely be back.

Update 4/2/25: Bumped up the rating one star as the sound has been considerably better for recent shows. If they continue on this trajectory I’ll bump them up again!
Love the physical venue itself and they get a great list of tribute bands that come through here with an occasional national act mixed in. I’d love to give it five stars and wish it was worthy of those stars but I can’t because of the sound.
About a third of the time the sound is great, a third of the time its OK, and a third of the time its just plain bad. I don’t expect them to nail it every time, but it is a concert venue and the sound is important. I’ve been to too many shows here where the bass and drums overpower the guitars to the point where its hard to believe the guitars are actually hooked into the house sound system and not just their stage amps. I don’t mind if its loud, just invest in a good pair of earplugs. (As an aside, think of that as a bonus as it keeps the audience conversations to a minimum if they can’t hear each other. Your conversation is not why I came to the concert).

State Theater was fantastic. It’s been a while since I’ve been back now that I’m in Loudoun County but what a great show. Went to see English Beat with some friends and was blown away. Food was really good for a music venue. They do have a nice dining area with wait staff for those who want to avoid running back to the admission line after wolfing down dinner & a beer down the street. We had balcony seats and the view was great. Sound system was crisp, the vibe across the crowd was evident, and from what I could tell there isn’t a bad seat in the house. Hats off to Rob and the rest of the team for a super awesome evening and night to remember. Note – I do love the old school classic lighted movie sign out front.

Great venue and atmosphere. Only suggestions, upgrade your speakers. They are sounding their age. Will definitely come back.
