The ladies working were kind, and it was quick as can be! I was in and out and ready to bring this sweet treat to my coworkers and I.
Thank you Mandeville Bake Shop!
$11.67 in donuts (7 count, mixed)
1) Cinnamon twist – cinnamon flavor is somewhat faint on this one. And that hurts because it’s why I bought it. So that’s a loss. The texture is amazing. Almost pulls apart like a melty cheese pizza if a doughnut was a pizza. But it’s not. You’ll see. Maybe? It’s a much bigger size and I believe more labor intensive hence the much higher charge than a regular donut. The twist costs $2.70 alone. It has a subtle crispy crunch to it which does add to the twisty experience. Tasty 7.5/10
2) Buttermilk – the buttermilk flavor was so strong it was almost citrusy. The texture was significant. Great chew and full bodied. Amazing 10/10
3) Chocolate iced/glazed – this one has a great consistency. Chocolate flavors can all meld together and be lost. That is not the case here. The icing is a completely different taste, and of course texture, to the chocolate of the doughnut bread itself. So you get two chocolate flavors at once! Which is great because you get to study and focus while you eat. Eating isn’t just shoveling and nourishment. It’s also an exercise of wit, if I may. You must enjoy it right down to trying to catch separate and complementary flavors. Hot and cold; sweet and spicy… you know the drill. So enjoy your food beyond, “Hey, this tastes good.” It can actually become, “Hey, THIS doughnut tastes different from THIS (very same) doughnut.” Amazing 10/10
4) Blueberry glazed – this is a funny one, in a good way. The first thing you experience is the slightest crunch from the dried-on sugary glaze. It gives a texture you wouldn’t have to the otherwise seeming cake-style donut. Then it’s a whoosh of blueberry flavor. I love these designs because it combines fruit and doughnut. Sounds weird but it works because blueberry is one of the sweeter fruits. So why not add sweet to sweet and gild the lily? It is also nicely sized. Amazing 10/10
5) Cinnamon cake – cake donuts are typically dry and it’s acceptable enough; for me anyway. I actually love stale cookies/desserts. But hey, blame it on growing up poverty level? This is dry and still moist so it was perfect execution. The seasoning doesn’t all fall off. It clings very well so each bite is greatly and evenly dusted with sugar and cinnamon. The bite is a full crunch with the sugar and yet spicy with the cinnamon fusion. It is on the small side which I’ve never known why cake donuts tend to be smaller. Smaller than their sister donuts at MBS anyway. Amazing 10/10
6) Chocolate Bavarian – A classic great. It’s flimsy and collapses so take care you’re not over a surface that doesn’t need creaming. Speaking of, the Bavarian cream is a nice contrasting “cooling” effect to the “warming” effect chocolate has on the palates. Conundrum donut. The cream has a texture and taste of significance. It doesn’t relay cheapness. This bakery really puts love into their products. Thus, we can trust them; I trust them. Do you? Will you? The chocolate glaze is the same as used on other styles of donut at the MBS. Good AND tasty 10/10
7) Chocolate glazed – nothing to write home about. Simple chocolate flavor, not a strong one, mind you. Smaller build. Decent 6/10
Christy, cashier(?), was attentive and kind. Patiently explaining what each donut was for my ignorance’s sake. She was a nice person to work with and I appreciated her help!
Price listings are practically nonexistent. It’s a pet peeve of mine BUT it’s such a common thing now. It seems places just take for granted we don’t care about our money and will spend it blindly. Shoot even the rich don’t do that, well they especially don’t do that. Still it’s nice to see what costs what instead of afterward on an itemized receipt. Culture becomes stranger and stranger. Even in my quaint, little Mandeville. —Digression—
Highly recommend these donuts. It’s been around since I was young —and that’s when dirt started to become popular. Try these guys out!
We got our daughters first birthday cake here and is was to die for, not in a literal sense though. We choose a Unicorn theme to add a little magic to our baby girls special day, (and add a little fantasy and color to our usually monotonous days).
We had the three almond flavor with raspberry filling. I don’t even like raspberries and it wasn’t my idea, and even I loved it. Check out how cute this cake is, and this little Superstar of ours as well. Thank you Mandeville Bakeshop!
