Rod & Reel Pier – Breakfast Review
Stopped in for breakfast at Rod & Reel on Anna Maria Island and was seriously impressed. The French toast was excellent, perfectly cooked and generously dusted w/ powdered sugar. The biscuits and gravy were classic comfort food, rich and satisfying.
What really stood out, though, was the breakfast sandwich. Simple but done right: egg, melted cheese, and an absolutely massive piece of ham that stole the show. Hearty, flavorful, and exactly what you want to start the day. (See the picture)
The restaurant has a great Florida fishing vibe—laid-back, authentic. Add in the unbeatable setting on AMI, and this is an easy recommendation.
If you’re on Anna Maria Island, Rod & Reel is a must-stop for breakfast. Great food, great atmosphere, and a true island classic.

Had an amazing meal with friends here. Everything was fresh and delicious and the service was impeccable! Restaurant was very clean and the wait staff was fantastic. Prices are reasonable for the island – you get what you pay for, fresh delicious food and a pleasant atmosphere. Special thanks to Ted, Jess and Shawn for making our visit special! We will definitely be back

This restaurant was effected by the hurricane last year. They are going to rebuild but are in contract for 5 years at current location down towards anna maria end of island. Food is still amazing! Employees treat u like family! Show some support =)

Friendly service and good food. The grilled shrimp is excellent. The cold slaw and grilled veggies are both good sides to pick. The slaw says traditional southern style it looks to be mayo based and has some pineapple pieces which gives it a bit of a sweet taste. The crab cakes are large and have a good flavor, not that much crab in them but good.

It was a bummer that the old spot got wiped out in a huricane. But the new spot had great food for dinner and they are working on rebuilding on the pier. They also have a great breakfest. Small menu but sull delicious.

My son was in town, so we decided to check out this waterfront restaurant. It’s on a fishing pier, so it’s over the water. The vibe is uber casual, to the extent that our waiter was wearing a sleeveless, wife beater style shirt. We ordered a pitcher of beer, which at $10 translated into $2 per beer, which was a great deal. We started with an onion rings appetizer, which were good but not really enough for 3 people. My son and I both ordered grouper sandwiches, mine grilled, and his fried. Both were super fresh and delicious. My wife ordered the scallops and she said they were great. It’s a chill place to eat fresh seafood and catch a sunset.

I honestly do not relish leaving such a negative review. In fact, this is the first restaurant review I have ever written. But after many years of dining out, the food we were served at this establishment leaves me compelled to warn folks to stay clear of this place! This is in no way a reflection on the waitstaff – who were friendly and attentive. The vibe was also friendly and cheerful. However the food was, to put it bluntly, inedible. The fried sea scallops ($36 dinner plate!) had the texture and consistency of old rubber sneaker soles. I seriously question whether they were in fact scallops. The coleslaw seemed completely devoid of seasoning, and hence taste. The crab cakes, which looked more like crab pancakes, were dry with little to no crab meat involved. Onion rings were of greasy, battered, seemingly frozen supermarket quality. The five previous reviews here all awarded 5 stars – which makes no sense to me – because the food is truly awful. When it was obvious that we were displeased with our dinner, we were told that their system was “down” and they could only accept cash…hmmm. For the record, we left a solid tip for our waitress, knowing that she wasn’t responsible for preparing our meals. Don’t go here.

This is truly a gem of a restaurant. They have no need for neon signs that advertise their business. Their food does their advertising! Sooo good. I ordered the fried grouper sandwich which is what they are known for. It was fantastic! It was more than enough for a person! I ordered it without the bun. Pricing changes daily for this item. Their pineapple coleslaw is the perfect side dish to add. Very refreshing!

Our 1st visit. We are in love with this place. We had the best seats! Got to see dolphins surfacing, a giant stingray, a couple pelicans and the giant school of minnows at the dock was mesmerizing to watch. Perfect weather, nice breeze. The food was awesome. Staff was nice and we had a great server. Parking was a little tough but everything that followed was perfect. We will be back.

That was pretty good. This place has been around a while, and I can see why. We all got the Fish and Chips (16.95), and it was really good. Got a large portion and the onion rings were outstanding. Id pass on their rice as a side. Right on the water, good seafood and a fun atmosphere, it’s a nice place to get a meal.
