The food was indeed delicious. The French Toast was good before even adding the syrup. The honey butter, pecan, and fresh fruit were definitely icing on the cake. The fried chicken was outstanding! The sweet tea was down home delicious. The atmosphere was nice. The music playing inside was a great touch. Everything seemed to be very clean inside. The staff were all smiling and tentative. I would definitely go back. Not one thing turned me off about this place on this lunch trip. Check them out!!!

My veteran buddies and I recently had the pleasure of dining at Poogan’s Southern Kitchen in Forest Acres, and I have to say, it was an exceptional experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with friendly smiles and welcoming hospitality.

The food was great (I just like more seasoning). Every dish we ordered was cooked corectly and the waitstaff ensure we were happy before leaving the table. I highly recommend the fried green tomatoes and the buttermilk pancakes – both were absolutely delicious. Nice portion sizes, making for a truly satisfying meal.

The atmosphere of the restaurant was also fantastic. The decor was charming and inviting, and the staff was attentive and accommodating. We felt right at home and thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience.

Overall, I can’t recommend Poogan’s Southern Kitchen highly enough. From the food to the service to the atmosphere, everything was top-notch. If you’re looking for a fantastic Southern dining experience in Forest Acres, Poogan’s Southern Kitchen is the place to go.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4 stars)

We recently dined at Poogan’s Southern Kitchen and had a mixed but largely positive experience. First off, the food was absolutely delicious, with generous portions that left us more than satisfied. The staff was friendly and provided courteous service, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. Impressively, despite being a large group of 7, we were seated with minimal wait time, which was a pleasant surprise.

However, our visit did come with a notable concern. Upon arrival, we were informed that our party would have to split into two different booths, each with a separate server, and that we would receive one check per grouping. Understanding the constraints, we agreed to this arrangement. Unfortunately, this setup meant we weren’t able to actively engage with half of our party during the meal, which detracted from the group dining experience we were looking forward to.

Adding to our disappointment, both groups were charged a large party fee on our respective checks. This was surprising and a bit frustrating, considering we were effectively separated into smaller parties with different servers, on opposite sides. It seemed incongruent with the reasoning behind a large party fee, given the division.

In summary, while the food and service at Poogan’s Southern Kitchen are commendable, the handling of our large group and the unexpected charges left a bittersweet taste. We hope that feedback like ours will encourage a reevaluation of policies regarding large groups, ensuring future diners can enjoy their meals to the fullest, regardless of party size.

This was my first visit. I only gave 4 stars because of the wait time for the food. So upon arrival i was only going because i wanted to try the fried chicken. However i was informed they were out of the fried chicken. So i ordered something else. Within 15 min the waiter came back and said the truck just delivered more chicken so i ordered that and had to wait again. However the waiter was very nice. The menu is broad. While waiting their was some honey biscuits that they bring out while u wait. They were really good to the point where i ordered 2 more. I then ordered the catfish nibbles. They were really good. They sauce that came with them was not good so i asked for tarter sauce. They were so tasty and came with a lemon. I then ordered the fried chicken and mash potatoes and macaroni. Everything was really good the chicken was very crispy like home cooked fried chicken. I really enjoyed my visit and can’t wait to go back and try something else . Being that my food was so good i look forward to next time .

Overall, it’s not a bad first experience. I will be trying again. The food was just “ok”, they ran out a few main items, some items were cold, and others were salty. Our server was great, and the atmosphere was also great. I felt the manager could have been more accommodating with cost, especially since my entree order was not available (part of it).

I really enjoyed this place. The food is classic Carolina dining with an above average feel and taste. The strawberry mimosa is amazing and definitely does its job! The portions are perfect for sharing and splitting an appetizers if there’s only two of you.

It was a comfortable location. I ordered the shrimp and grits. My drink was a sun joy, (sweet tea and lemonade mix). I am a coastal southern gentleman raised on this style of cuisine and to my surprise they made the grits with cream which in my humble opinion did not pair well with the shrimp. The cornbread biscuit mix was not served warmed and lacked what my expectations wanted. The honey butter helped but since it was not warm the honey butter did not melt and the biscuit came across dry to the taste.

1st time at Poogans, so we were excited to try the southern cuisine. I started with the catfish bites as an appetizer. They were a bit over fried with more breader than fish in 60% of the bites. It’s not worth $12
The Ms had the bone-in fried chicken dinner.($22) She rated it 3 stars. I tasted it.. It was just okay.. the sides were decent. Her collard greens were a bit too salty for me, but she liked them. The black eyed peas and rice were pretty good.(hopping John with country ham)

I had the sweet tea glazed salmon with sweet potato puree, field pea & corn succotash.( $25)
At first, I couldn’t understand the mix.. There are too many tastes fighting for placement on my pallets. After the butter melted, the meal was pretty good. I think it might be better with regular mashed potatoes, though. The side of Mac and cheese … was very disappointing. If you can’t make a better Mac n cheese than Chick-fil-A, you can’t call yourself a southern kitchen. It was a white cheese soup mix of saltiness. I was hoping for a homemade hunk of sharp, mild, smoked cheese loveliness. Please work on changing that. We’ll give you guys another try in the future. Breakfast preferably. ✌

Excellent service and presentation. The eats are very good, too. Only suggestion for atmosphere is to implement multi-genre background music at a slightly lower volume. Besides that, great property even with nice outdoor seating. Would love to visit after sundown. By the way, you will hate your life if you leave here without trying the desert. You will not be gored by this delicious mousse! And it’s in a mason jar, like, how cool is that!

I stumbled across this place and I’m so glad I did. The atmosphere and staff were so welcoming and down to earth from the time I set foot through the door. The manager, hostess, waitress all checked on us multiple times to make sure we were good and we appreciated that very much. The atmosphere of the restaurant is great. I would highly suggest anyone to this restaurant for a relaxing brunch or even a delicious lunch or dinner. The food was delicious. I look forward to going back!!!
