I had never heard of Portillo’s before. They’re an Illinois staple that recently opened a location in Kennesaw, Georgia, and Chicago natives were thrilled to get a taste of home. Folks unfamiliar with Chicago-style hot dogs and Italian beef, on the other hand, were busy complaining about the “wet” sandwiches. Some people just don’t get it.

Funny thing is, I was driving through Illinois when I spotted a Portillo’s sign for the first time ever and decided to stop. Best decision. The woman who helped me—didn’t catch her name—was super friendly and walked me through the menu. I ordered a croissant sandwich, added hot peppers, and got the gravy on the side. Baby… heaven. And the French fries? They took me straight back to childhood. They actually tasted real.

I even downloaded the app, though I missed the cutoff for the free fries—my bad. Still worth it. The restaurant itself was a whole vibe, from the décor to the energy. And let me tell you, the real surprise hit in the restroom: spotless, and it smelled fruity—like cherries. Yes, that matters.

I don’t have another restaurant to compare Portillo’s to, so I’m calling it like I see it. Big, fat 10 out of 10.

All around the experience was worthwhile, great burgers! With kiosk or human contact ordering makes ordering a bite to eat a breeze. The atmosphere has the cozy 1950-60’s diner approach with advertising decorating the walls. 10/10 recommend!

First timer, but heard about it for years. Dined alone. Service was slow and unenthusiastic. Food was pretty good. Had the Italian Beef and Sausage combo with both types of peppers added. Tap beer to wash it down. Compared to the overpriced chicken sliders I just reviewed (not Portillo’s), the sandwich for around 10 bucks seems like a reasonable deal.

I had a burger with fries while my wife had a salad. The burger was fantastic–the meat was juicy and the cheese was melted thoroughly. My only complaint was that the bun got a bit soggy, but I’m sure it would have been fine if we had eaten at the restaurant instead of taking it to go.

According to my wife, the salad was fantastic as well.

My family regularly enjoy Portillo’s. It is always clean, the service quick and friendly and the food is fresh and delicious.

They have great catering options available for parties small to large. Fancier Italian style to burgers and their famous hot dogs.

Hands down the best place to get a hot dog! I’ve never had good luck at fast food joints with their hot dogs… EXCEPT at Portillo’s. Be it Schaumburg or Champaign, every time I’ve went I’ve gotten their Chicago dogs and they’ve always been great! They’re always warm and juicy, and the condiments are always fresh! Alas, I cannot speak for the taste of anything else at Portillo’s because I only ever get the Chicago dogs because they’re just that good lol.

As much as I love the place, the only downside is the price: I would say Portillo’s sacrifices its cost for quality. You’ll get a better product than what others in the area are offering, but it’ll set you back more and you’ll get less food. Two Chicago dogs, a small fry, and a small drink set me back $16!

Portillos is one of my favorite spots after finding it near the airport in Chicago years ago.

Get the beef “Portillo’s way” and the dog “Chicago Style”!

The burgers are also fantastic and the toppings are some of the freshest I’ve seen not matter what they are paired with.

The dessert? They are all good!

Overall? This place doesn’t have a bad offering on the menu and the ambiance of the place is spot on from the decor to the Chicago style theme throughout!

Deelishush!

If you’re in Champaign (or elsewhere in Illinois) and haven’t tried a Chicago dog this IS the place to go. Jalapeños, homemade relish, every bite tastes like heaven… Just Yumm!! ✨ Picked a combo to-go as they were about to close and the lady was so nice she let me go back in to refill my beverage

Consistently good, a little pricey. $25 for a beef sandwich, hot dog, large fry, cheese sauce, 2 drinks. Asked for the beef to be dipped but was a little dry, so that is why the 1 less star. Restaurant was busy, but fast service. Plenty of seating and was clean. Should have signed up for the rewards program.

Overall loved it. The chicken patty was certainly not well cooked in the burger but the sandwiches we had were that nice. Chocolate shake was also good.
