The staff and service were excellent, attentive and friendly. My favorite dish was the frog legs which was composed of a flavorful blend of garlic and herbs and just prepared so well. All the other primary dishes were solid, and the presentation well designed. We also enjoyed the creative snowball themed dessert from the pastry chef. The soup was just ok.
Despite the good food, I left the experience a bit disappointed and feeling taken advantage of. On my first dining experience, we split a wine pairing which was excellent. This time, I simply ordered a glass of wine with dinner, after asking for a recommendation from the sommelier of his favorite wine by the glass (on the menu, the most expensive wine per glass was 15 euros). My sister, who joined me for dinner that night, was later ordered the same recommendation.
When I paid for the bill, those glasses were 27 euros each, almost double the most expensive glass available on the wine menu. The initial champagne drinks we were offered before viewing the menu were also around 30 euros each.
While we very much enjoyed the meal and the top quality service, I can’t help but feeling a bit taken advantage of for eating at a fancy restaurant and overcharged for beverages in a setting where it would be awkward to ask the price yet the price was outside of the reflective context on the menu. If they need to make a higher margin, this isn’t the way they should go about it.
The entire hotel is set in a beautiful part of the mountains with an enjoyable drive through winding roads. If you are an EV driver who suffers from rekkeviddeangst – or range anxiety – they have a number of charge points in the carpark to use while you dine.
The food was excellent and beautifully presented, the options to accomodate my ridiculous food restrictions were on par with the carefully selected tasting menu. The wine parings were varied so that every glass really felt like a new experience and the sommalier was kind enough to tell us exactly where each bottle came from and how far away it was – great for planning our next trip. I brought my 2 year old to dinner (with many contigency plans to take him somewhere quiet if he got annoying, I swear!) but the staff were so lovely and welcoming he somehow was on his best behaviour. They made him a kids meal that was delicious enough to be for adults at any other restaraunt with a great deal of variety in taste and texture. He still stole most of my food, but he is a bit of a gourmet, so I took some of his.
Anyway this is getting too long, food was exquisit, setting was gorgeous, ambiance was wonderful and the staff were amazing.
