Reviews
We ordered palak chaat, gulauti kebab, Afghani soya chaap, kofta, a couple of mocktails, and ended the meal with rasmalai, and the spread did justice to the place.
The palak chaat was crisp and well-balanced, not soggy, with the right amount of tanginess. Gulauti kebab stood out for its softness and flavour, melt-in-the-mouth and nicely spiced. The Afghani soya chaap was creamy and rich without being heavy, cooked just right. Kofta was comforting and flavourful, paired well with the gravy. Mocktails were refreshing and thoughtfully made, not overly sweet.
And the rasmalai is a must which was soft, fresh, and perfectly sweetened. A great way to end the meal.
Service was attentive, portions were good, and the overall vibe felt relaxed and welcoming. Definitely a place I’d revisit, especially for vegetarian North Indian dishes done right.
The impossible galouti was flavorful, but we couldn’t taste the truffle oil, but we liked it.
The pahadi paneer tikka was average, paneer was good, the flavors were mild and minimal.
The Indian pizza was tasty and simple, good option for kids.
Overall, a good meal like any other high quality Indian restaurant in the bay area. The thing that would keep us coming back is a mix of good food, good service, and good atmosphere. That was not the case here. The service is better at Star Chaat and Chaat Bhavan for example. The menu has some items in purple coloring which somehow we were supposed to know they weren’t available through omniscience. Of course they don’t serve chai even though it’s on the menu, it’s a low revenue item. They also didn’t have a slice of cucumber for my drink, why would an Indian restaurant with a massive bar stock cucumbers? It’s a tough market, and this place isn’t setup for success, it is surviving. One time visit for us.
Chicken and Veg bao’s tasted really good. Very few Indian places that serve bao.
The drinks we ordered were also great – Anarkali and raspberry Mojito.
The Makhmali kofta was really soft and decadent, melt in mouth.
Must try – Baos and Makhmali Paneer kofta
Unfortunately, our most recent visit revealed a significant and surprising inconsistency in food quality across several key items. The Palak Chaat was a letdown because the papri was not crisp, which ruined the texture. Other dishes disappointed as well: the Impossible Galouti was not that great, the Paneer Tikka was just average, and both the Kii and Ka and the Tutta Futta Paan did not taste good at all. This major inconsistency between their high-quality dishes and these subpar items is a concern.
Finally, the service timing needs improvement. We arrived at 8:00 PM, and despite the restaurant closing at 9:00 PM, we felt aggressively rushed to complete our order. Staff members pushed us to place our entire order by 8:20 PM, which made the end of our dining experience hurried and detracted significantly from the evening.
I visited Erthya to celebrate a birthday dinner on a Friday evening. We had reservations and were seated right away.
During the course of our dinner, we had
– Drinks: Chikni Chameli, Ki-n-ka, Mr. India and a Mojito
– Appetizers: Paani Puri, Paalak chaat, Prawns Koliwada
– Entrees: Veggie Kadhai, Mutton Champaran, Breads (Kulchaas, Binaries Rotis and Garlic Naan)
Drinks and Appetizers were good with the Paani Puri being the standout for its creative presentation. Paalak chaat and Prawns were on point too.
The entrees were A-ok with the Veg Kadhai beating the Mutton Champaran.
The Daal Makhni was however a disappointment lacking flavor, seasoning with the butter overpowering everything.
Our server was great and attentive. The overall atmosphere was warm, vibrant and fun which is perfect for social gatherings.
All in all ,we had a great time here.
Food was nice. We ordered hakka noodles which is part of a different menu (it was average). Galouti kebabs were spicy and good, paneer curry was good. Dal makhni and breads were really very good.
The portion sizes at this restaurant are astonishingly small for dishes that cost between $20 and $30 each. When we brought this up, the manager chose rudeness over accountability, condescendingly informing us that this was “fine dining,” as though we’ve never encountered the concept before.
For context: our palak chaat featured a grand total of three spinach leaves. Not three servings. Three leaves. The paneer chilly generously offered five pieces of paneer. At $30 a dish, that comes out to about $6 per bite, which I suppose is one way to run a business if the goal is to leave guests hungry.
We were a group of six which made the portions even more absurd because there were quite literally nothing to split. When we questioned this, the manager doubled down with a snide remark about how they “don’t serve buckets of biryani like the places we usually go to,” before refusing to make any adjustments.
Between the microscopic portions and the manager’s inflated sense of superiority, this was easily one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in the Bay Area.
Save your money—and your dignity—and go literally anywhere else.
Coming to the service, there were few issues. Number 1, we wanted to order chicken biryani but they said they are still making it and will take time – this was at like 1PM, I would expect them to be prepared for peak lunch time. Instead we had to settle with the paneer biryani which was okayish. Number 2, the servers always seem to be in a hurry to clear the plates even if you are in the middle of eating or have some leftovers that you are working on. Number 3, they charged us a 18% service fee in the bill when everywhere in the menu it clearly said it’s for parties of 5 & above – we were 4 people, glad we noticed and had them remove it!
I wouldn’t mind going to his restaurant again to try rest of their menu. Hopefully they fix their service issues by then.
