We had just landed at the airport and wanted something local for lunch. We ended up here. They’re in a “backup” location just down and across the street from their main location while it is being renovated.

That however did nothing to diminish from a fantastic Tex-Mex meal. Most everything was prepared after we ordered and was very fresh. Their guacamole is excellent and is served with salsa. Agua fresco is made on site – ended up having both the hibiscus and pineapple as we stayed for 90 minutes sitting outside under a shade cover.

My main course were three pork tacos – served on corn tortillas made fresh when I ordered (tasty and not dry). My wife had a variety of 3 tacos (beef, pork and shrimp).
Because everything else was so good I ordered churros…also fresh and excellent.

Nayelli was our wonderful server and the owner, Leo, is a gem of a person who we enjoyed talking with for 30 minutes or more. He learned to cook in Mexico with his grandmother as a child.

We checked the Google reviews before going, and everything was great except for the slightly out-of-the-way location, which made it a little difficult to find. We ordered three dishes and one drink, and the portions were so generous that we took the leftovers home. The burritos and tacos were absolutely delicious. And the staff were all very friendly, which made for a pleasant experience.

They were remodeling the restaurant when we visited, so we were directed a little past the restaurant to their temporary food truck area.
There was an option of indoor and outdoor seating. Very comfortable.
The staff were amazing. Angel walked us through the menu. He was exceptionally friendly, helpful and personable.
Everything from the chips/guacamole to the tacos and salad were so tasty!
The tacos were very filling and the steak salad seemed to have more meat than salad. All the flavors left us wanting more until we could not eat a other bit. The aqua fresca was so refreshing. The flavors were not watered down at all.
This location is only about 20mins from the Phoenix airport. So even if you are just passing through, stop by to try this place out. It will be worth the effort.
Everything is made fresh. Come hungry, leave more than satisfied

Cocina Madrigal: The Guacamole is Pure Gold (and those Tacos are Legendary!)
Oh, honey, you didn’t just eat lunch, you went straight to legendary!
I found Cocina Madrigal operating out of their food truck/patio setup in Phoenix, and let me tell you—the hype is real! This place, which was voted Yelp’s #1 Restaurant in America in 2022, proves that incredible flavor can happen anywhere.
Let’s start with the important stuff: that Guacamole is the best I’ve ever had! It’s fresh, chunky, and the perfect flavor bomb.
But the tacos? Chef Leo Madrigal is a genius. I had the Pomegranate Steak Tacos (made with gorgonzola, fried peppers, and pomegranate marinade!), and it was an unbelievably delicious, boutique-crafted flavor bomb. I’ve never had those unique, gourmet ingredients together, but it was amazing and sang together in perfect harmony.
The temporary setup is buzzing, and the staff is friendly and efficient—they are carrying the flag for one of the best restaurants in the country. Forget sad airport food; you totally bypassed the map and went straight to fabulous. This place is a must-try!

We needed a bite to eat after a flight from Minnesota. We Googled SW Food and ended up at Cocina Madrigal. What a great find. Great staff, excellent food and pleasant patio. We will definitely stop on our next trip to Phoenix.

Got this recommendation from the Hertz counter and could not have been happier. To begin with, the staff was extremely welcoming and we were seated instantly. Food selection and service were absolutely awesome, even our picky kids loved it. Chips, Salsa and Guac were some of the best I’ve ever had and only topped by the entrees.

Would definitely recommend this to ANYONE in the Phoenix area and would stop in if I’m anywhere within a 3 hour radius. Delish!

While the food is just as good as ever, sadly a major fire has the restaurant relocated to a temporary building down a small side street (follow signs for Food Truck) and as the temporary kitchen is a food truck, there are a few menu limitations (no booze being the main one)). They still have my wife’s favorites-steak tacos and my go to -the meaty chicken enchiladas.

For now, the Food is served in takeout containers but they have ample seating inside and out in the temporary space and most importantly the same strong customer service and friendliness.

While they work to rebuild, they need our dining dollars more than ever so make a point to over there and get some of their great chow!

We were out in South Phoenix visiting schools and wanted a quick, delicious spot to grab a bite—so we finally checked off Cocina Madrigal Tacos & Tequila from our list! ✨

Heads up: the original location is under remodel after a fire, so it’s not on the corner of Wood right now. Keep driving down Wood, and you’ll find it on the south side.

The chef and owner personally greeted us and asked if it was our first visit—such a warm touch! And the food? Absolutely tasty.

The space is temporary, so overlook the general decor… what matters is that they’re still serving amazing food while rebuilding. Totally worth the visit!

Stopped by for a quick meal on a road trip after researching for the best Mexican food in Phoenix and immediately was greeted with so much warmth and care. I don’t eat cilantro or dairy (but still love Mexican food!) so it can be hard to find a place that accommodates my diet but our server Angel was so kind and made sure I could still get their famous mushroom enchiladas. So much flavor & I could tell it was made with lots of care!

My partner who has a very developed palette had their famous steak tacos and said it was 10/10.

Even under construction, we had a great time eating outside next to their truck and the to go plating didn’t diminish the experience at all. We felt so welcome & after hours on the road, it was so nice to be treated with kindness and care.

Thank you Angel and chef Leo! This place lives up to the hype, please try it if you’re in the area!!!
