I had the carne asada and al pastor tacos. And I’m very disappointed in the Atotonilco’s group. The carne asada had no flavor it was like salty as can ever be and just bland. The Al pastor taco I had was just mushy kind of style not like a marinated Al pastor taco. I definitely will not be back. But the service was great though. Maybe somebody else might like it. But I just was disappointed thought I was going to get there tacos with a wow factor I didn’t get that wow factor. That’s my review.

I was deeply disappointed since I’ve heard great things about the food here. It turned out that this restaurant has insanely unsanitary operations where leftovers of complimentary vinegary carrots (for the table), red sauce, and limes are reused and served to new customers from previous ones. The waiters would clean up a table, put the carrots, sauce, and limes back in to the fridge. Then when new customers come in, they take them out again to serve. Even the same plastic utensil and everything. It’s a huge opportunity for a disastrous contamination situation. Pretty sure it’s not compliant for food safety policies either.

Please avoid going here!

These have to be the best quality tacos from morning to late night, you can not go wrong coming to this taco spot!
The quality of the meat is top tier. It’s soft, great flavor and authentic. I got the asada tacos and my friend got al pastor. The tortas are just as great. But the drinks, horchata is amazing. The milkshakes are a must and the fresh squeezed juice is incredible.
Definitely go check this spot out when you’re in town!

What a fantastic gem in Little Village! I went to Taquerías Atotonilco for dinner with a friend today, and I have to say, it was absolutely outstanding. I ordered the steak torta, and let me tell you it was hands down the best torta I’ve had in a long time. The bread was fresh and perfectly toasted, and I was really impressed to see they include an entire avocado in the sandwich—no shortcuts here!

But the star of the show was the Carne Asada. The steak was incredibly flavorful, tender, and cooked to perfection. Every bite had just the right balance of seasoning and freshness. From one to ten, this sandwich was a solid 10.

The service was just as impressive. The servers were friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. The restaurant itself was spotless very clean and welcoming. I also appreciated being able to watch the kitchen at work; you could tell everything was made fresh and with care.

If you’re craving authentic Mexican food, this spot is a must try. I’ll definitely be coming back soon!

Been coming here my whole life (I’m 35). Best tacos in the city, but how are they gna give me my shake like this?! Fill it up. You’re taxing me an arm and a leg already. The night time register guy hates his job. Was on his social media page during my whole ordering process.

First time in Chicago and I had heard we should go to this place for tacos. It was amazing I had the pastor/pork tacos they are freshly cooked on the rotator. The meal comes with a complementary salad that they are known for. I had also a papaya con leche which was also freshly made there. 2 Tacos was just the right amount for me. Great service and I would come again. If you’re taking the train take the pink line to Pulaski and walk to 26th st and you’ll be there in about 15 minute walk.

I’ve been coming here since the early 2000s when my dad used to bring our family as kids. Now, as an adult, it’s such a great feeling to eat here— it’s like stepping back in time. While a few changes have been made over the years, nothing major has changed the experience. They seat you immediately, and instead of menus, you just look at the wall to see the food and drink options — it’s simple and easy to pick.

They bring out a huge bowl of pickled carrots and chiles, which I absolutely love. I highly recommend trying the tacos de lengua and al pastor. The agua de horchata is also delicious and their salsa is SPICY!

My only cons is its a little pricey — we ordered 6 tacos and 3 drinks, and our total came out to about $50, not including tip. Also, it gets PACKED, so if you’re not a fan of crowds, this might not be the spot for you. They accept both cash and cards, and at night they have security inside and outside the restaurant, which is reassuring given the area.

Highly recommend if you are in the mood for delicious and authentic tacos!

Don’t get me wrong the place looks authentic and homemade type but I don’t judge a place off looks, more off the style and flavor a good authentic Mexican restaurant can produce in that kitchen, here at Taquerias Atotonilco this is just more for the looks than the flavor. They have the audacity to say they make authentic Horchata when clearly it’s poured powder from a bag with some added sugar? I wouldn’t recommend a spot to anyone whose workers lie about the quality of their food and how it’s made Then have the audacity to charge +$4.00 a taco that has no flavor every single one of their meats flavorless? I get if I was diagnosed with no taste buds then clearly i recommend this place for you! Other than that this place is a hangout spot with less flavor than Taco Bell. I would include they charge the entire table so splitting a bill would be like someone filing their taxes for the first time.

I grew up in this neighborhood and had not been here in over 30 years. I was in the area and was thinking about the amazing tacos I had grown up with. I ordered one asada taco and one pastor taco Sadly I was SO SO very disappointed. The tortillas were hard and the meats and tortillas were barely warm. I wanted so badly to relive my childhood only to be met with mediocre food at best. Do better Atotonilco…. DO… BETTER!!! Just awful!! Taco Bell would have been a better choice. Never again

My friends and I stopped by on a Saturday evening, and it was pretty packed, though we were luckily able to get seated immediately. Once seated, we got some complimentary carrots and peppers, which had a pleasant sour / pickled flavor.

They have a decent amount of vegetarian options, but none are very inventive (just avocado or beans, that’s it). All the meat options looked pretty good— they have an open kitchen, so you can see all the meats being cut and cooked on the grill at the front of the restaurant, which is cool.

I ordered the Birria Torta, which was solid. The bread was simultaneously soft and crispy— a good texture combo, and the meat was good— albeit slightly dry and lacking in flavor. It had a generous amount of sauce / sour cream inside, which improved the flavor profile. Being so packed with meat, it was pretty hard to consume in one piece without completely falling apart in my hands. Otherwise, it was overall pretty good and for ~$12 including tip, it was solid value.

I thought the prices were standard and reasonable (though maybe a bit on the higher side for certain menu items) relative to other Mexican restaurants in the area. Our waitstaff was friendly and the food came out quickly. You pay at the front, and though they take both cash and card, they add a 3.5% surcharge for cards.
