Downtown Portland, Maine. March 2025. Cold winds make a 40-degree day feel like a 20. Perfect conditions for a local place that exudes hygge. Resurrected and renamed, in 2015 this dive bar took over after the age-old Sangillo’s closed. A small space with big smiles and great service. Not the best place for a big crowd but if you get there at the right time it could work. I was greeted immediately by the bartender. A quick cold beer was served and I asked for some help with a menu choice–> the Steak Bomb sandwich was chosen and it didn’t disappoint. I prefer softer breads with sandwiches. This one soaked up the juices. Fries were crisp, not overcooked and complete with a hint of seasoning. I add malt vinegar.
Comfort pub food at its best. Two big screens to keep up with games. Will go again.

We found Tomaso’s while waiting for our table at Duck Fat. What a great local bar. We only had a drink the first time but we went again before we headed to the airport. This time we had lunch. The fish and chips are delicious and the bartenders were great! This was one of our favorite discoveries in Portland!

Awesome spot for a late meal and some beers. Their Thai sandwich is one of the best hoagie I’ve had in a long time, and that buffalo chicken mac and cheese has brought me back from the grave lol. Easy 5/5, just know that it gets busy due to it being a smaller establishment.

Local bar. Ordered fish ‘n chips ($19): good fries, but a little over cooked. The fish had a horrible, thick breading, I had to dig the fish out like I was eating shellfish. That said, the fish was great, once I got rid of the breading. If the kitchen changed the breading it could be a great dish. Good air-conditioning (A/C). I heard the chicken tenders were better. Shawna was a decent bartender.

Let me tell yall something, if you want good quality food please check this place out! We ended up going to this super extra ritzy expensive bougie place around the corner called even tide aka high price tide for small portions… I spend $30 and left hungry! No drink just a damn crab roll.
I’m so happy I Decided to check out this local spot. The atmosphere, my waiter .. I hate that I forgot her name but she made me feel incredibly welcome and gave us enough attention. The food and drinks were 10 out of 10!! Please give this place all the love !! I will be back ♥️

Love getting to visit here! The atmosphere felt so comfortable and personal. My buddy and I came for drinks and felt right at home. We had the mac and cheese with chicken tenders and bacon. Definitely recommend trying that dish out as it was delicious!

From the outside it was unassuming. Look like a hole in the wall bar which is right up my alley. Steed at a hotel nearby and the place came highly recommended. It did not disappoint the food was incredible. A small place with probably ten bar seats and maybe twenty other available seats. I got wings because they came highly recommended. And they were great. I also got, I think it was a ruben, and that was incredible. You have to stop by this place if you’re in the old port. You won’t be disappointed

Oh, what to say about Tomaso’s but if you’re looking for a small little hole in the wall for one of the best steak bombs ever in New England, then look no further. This is the place to be.
It looks intimidating at first but you realize upon entering it’s just a vibrant, intimate little sit-down bar. All the neon and lights inside just adds to its rustic charm.
Now to the main subject, the steakbomb. Tender, very peppery shredded beef, red peppers, succulent onions, and that cheese sauce. Oh, the cheese sauce. Just perfectly salty, creamy, and perfect to dip your crunchy fries into.
Think ‘a grungy biker with a teddy bear personality’ energy. This is what Tomaso’s is and I’m all for it. I can’t wait to go back again sometime. Local beer on tap, too! Delicious!

First off, don’t expect a fine dinning experience. This is a bar, just like your favorite one in your hometown. Although a little pricey it will make you feel like you’ve been there before. Our experience in Portland was definitely enhanced because of this place. Chris, a server treated us like we were regulars. He made our time there so inviting we decided to have a second nightcap there on our last night in Portland. Honestly a breath of fresh air. If you are looking for a normal bar this is a place to try out. Thank you Chris for treating us so well, you made my birthday feel like I was at home. We look forward to visiting the next time we are in town.
