I’d like to express my deepest gratitude to the stuff here. In this Monday night, I accidentally ordered the Typical Dutch Stamppot instead of the Spareribs Sonneveld – and i forgot it! When the food came, i totally stunned, but stuff said it’s okay, she can change the stamppot to the rib, no more extra fee. Finally, we have a great meal here, the rib is awesome!

One of the best food establishments during my trip to Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and here’s why:

First, the food. We ordered ribs, tomato soup with bread, Homemade Meatball, Bitterballen and their Homemade Apple Pie. I must say that their Apple Pie is the best one I’ve had during my entire trip across several European countries. Soft, sweet and palatable!

The waiting staff were very helpful. While we arrived at the restaurant an hour earlier than we had reserved for, the staff were able to get us seat as soon as possible. Remember to make a reservation in advance, or they will refuse service.

They have to, because they are frequently packed with diners. Tables and chairs are very close to each other, maximizing the number of guests they can house, however it does make the dining experience a bit uncomfortable. Great place for chatting over drinks, though.

All in all, I do plan to revisit to try their Apple Pie again during my next trip to Amsterdam!

Stopped by after hearing great things from the locals, and it didn’t disappoint. The food is the definition of ‘comfy’—really tasty and hits the spot if you’re looking for authentic local flavors. Service was fine, though the tables are a bit on the smaller side, so it can feel a little tight if you’re ordering a few dishes. Overall, a solid spot for a genuine meal!

The wife wanted split pea soup, so we tracked down this place. We were seated and served with a decent amount of time. She got the soup, I got their “best in Amsterdam” spare ribs. They were very tender and did fall off the bone as suggested here. We were debating on the apple pie, but the reviews of the fridge tasting pie pushed us away. On the fence if I’d go back. It didn’t blow us away. Service could have been a bit more timely.

Great little place right on a canal. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Staff was polite and helpful when chosing drinks or food. Know for their stampot and spare ribs, I had the stampot and bitterballen which both were fantastic. Inside is really cool and outside is beautiful quite little street. Definitely a must try in amsterdam.

Visiting Café Sonneveld was a real treat! The pork ribs were phenomenal—tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned with a rich, smoky flavor that just melted in my mouth. Every bite was a delight, and it’s clear the kitchen takes pride in its dishes. The service was attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived.
The café itself has a warm, cozy atmosphere, with a casual yet charming vibe that makes it ideal for both a relaxed lunch or a hearty dinner. Watching the staff interact with other guests, you can tell it’s a place where people enjoy working and genuinely care about the dining experience.

We had a traditional roast pork ribs, and sausage. It was very delicious.. even their house red wine was tasty a reasonable prize, but do recommend booking in advance.

We had the spareribs, stamppot with meatball and bitterballen. I would highly recommend the spareribs and stamppot. The meat is falling off the bones and the sauce is good with extra dipping sauces. The stamppot with a big meatball is proper comfort food. The bitterball was not to my taste
