Very authentic Italian food. Did not disappoint. Great selection of the traditional Italian go to ‘s. Service was wonderful. My only 2 comments are that the butter with the amazing bread was a little too hard, and conversely the main dish should have sat for 2 more minutes to cool down. But it was all well worth it.

Wonderful food, great dinner. Our waitress was great. The ceiling is high, so it’s a bit loud in there. We usually go to Il Porto in Gaithersburg. The 4 of us had delicious food great meal & dessert. The parking can be horrible. Get there before dinner rush or later.

Went to Il Porto in Frederick, MD and it was hands-down the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. The restaurant was practically empty at 6:00 pm, yet it still took 15 minutes for a waiter to come to our table while 5–6 servers stood around chatting at the bar. Appetizers arrived 25 minutes later and were completely inedible — flavorless fried artichoke hearts and a cream of crab bisque that tasted like frozen crab drowned in heavy cream.
The main courses were even worse. We waited over an hour while other tables arrived, ordered, ate, and left before our food ever showed up. The overpriced ossobuco was cold, smothered in what tasted like months-old canned tomato paste, and the “risotto” advertised on the menu was nothing more than plain yellow rice. The chicken and pasta dish was also cold, swimming in butter, completely unseasoned, and utterly tasteless.
Throughout the entire meal, no one checked on us, no one asked if the food was okay, and no one offered refills or assistance of any kind. It was clear the staff simply didn’t care.
An absolute disaster from start to finish. Slow service, bland and poorly prepared food, and total indifference from the staff. I wouldn’t recommend Il Porto to anyone.

My wife and I had a really nice celebration dinner here to end 2025. The service was very attentive, the mood was lively but not loud, the food was really good. The roasted red pepper and anchovies app is terrific with the free bread. The chicken piccata was great too. We were happy enough to stay for coffee and tiramisu which was also good. Pretty perfect old school Italian.

Il Porto is a very Lively restaurant in downtown Frederick, MD. We got there at a very busy time for a pre-show dinner and unfortunately we had to pack up most of our food because it took almost an hour after ordering. It was very busy at the time. They seemed to be a little short-staffed as well and there was a lot of takeout orders it seemed. The atmosphere was a bit loud, but what was the most annoying was the large vertical monitor that advertised the restaurant inside. It was rather annoying. The food was plentiful and good but hardly transcending. I would go again and give them another shot if we had time without any constraints.

This was our first time to Il Porto Restaurant. It was recommended by a friend. We had the sausage and eggplant Parmesan with pasta and red sauce. It was delicious. Also, the pasta with white clam sauce. It had a nice portion of pasta with a dozen fresh clams surrounding the pasta. Both meals were excellent. Portions are generous. We were hungry so we cleaned our plates. The dessert selection sounds amazing. We decided on the chocolate mousse cake. The cake was moist and the mousse on top was smooth and delicious. We very much enjoyed our meal. The staff was great. Nice place to go for a first date or a family celebration.

First time here and I will definitely be back. Not a large place so I definitely would make reservations. Everything was great – food, service, atmosphere. The staff kept an eye on my table from a distance and showed up at the table when I needed something. The marsala sauce was probably the best I have had and my Veal was cooked perfectly.

Had an incredible meal here tonight! My husband had veal Marsala that was fantastic! I had one of the specials that was lobster and shrimp over linguine with a creamy/lobster/sherry based sauce. It was insanely delicious. We each had a dessert – a cannoli that was perfect and tasty tiramisu. The staff is wonderful and they are all taking care of you. Il Porto is fantastic and so adorable! I felt like I was on vacation.

This is one of our favorite restaurants for several reasons. Service is consistently great (every one is friendly and listens to us attentively); there are plenty to choose for both meat lovers and vegetarians; the restaurant maintains its brightness and clean even though it is a type of historic location; one can always find a parking in a near distance. The only advise is that sometimes, the music (Italian Opera) is a bit loud but some customers enjoy it ^-^

What an extraordinary experience. If you are looking for a truly authentic Italian restaurant, this is the place. My whole family came out to celebrate my mom’s 60th birthday and with the amazing selection of restaurants in Frederick it was hard to narrow it down, but this place is something special. You can tell the entire staff puts their hearts into the atmosphere, service, and most importantly the food. A wide but not overwhelming variety of plates including chef specials, and every dish was prepared with flavor, flare, and depth. If you haven’t noticed, I cannot say enough good things about this place. I look forward to going back again, for another sensational meal.
