I ordered the chopped brisket sandwich with jalapenos and onions. While the sandwich size was more than ample, the meat tasted more like the precooked, prepackaged brisket you buy at HEB. It just didn’t taste like pit BBQ. Tasted like mass produced meat. While the hamburger bun was fluffy and soft, one part of the bottom bun was hard. As for the add ons of jalapenos and onions, there were about three jalapenos and a small piece of an onion on this huge sandwich.
Also ordered coleslaw which wasn’t bad but it lacked that crispness and bite that really good coleslaw has. I had to try the potato salad which is one of my favorite sides! It was the smooth, whipped version of potato salad, which I prefer. Initially, it was excellent, great flavor but a little heavy on the dill. By the end of it, the dill had become really overpowering. Could have used a bit more mayo and more egg, for my taste.
Finally, there was the banana pudding. It had an untraditional flavor to it but I liked it. It seemed more like vanilla pudding with bananas it. also seems heavy on the vanilla extract flavor. Normally, vanilla wafers are used in banana pudding but this was not the case here. They used some other sort of shortbread cookie it seemed. The bananas were a little black but overall it was pretty good.
The staff was extremely nice and welcoming and the inside was nicely decorated. Overall, I will return if just to try out some other things on the menu! Definitely an asset though to dining options in Edna. I wish them much success!
