Local bar that sits on a corner in the small town of Marne (just west of Grand Rapids). No frills, a couple of TVs and a billiard table. Party tried the pickle back shot (a shot of whiskey and chased with a shot of pickle juice). It was oddly good?! Then we tried the daily special; a grilled cheese with a bowl of chili. The chili was delicious (flavorful and a little kick) and the grilled cheese was nostalgic. Service was great. While this isn’t your normal stop, it’s worth trying if you’re in the area or just want to try something different. It really is a “neighborhood bar.”

It was our first time we’re big fans! The two bartenders helped a lot of people in a short time, we had great service, Mark and Anna (I think) were very attentive, fun, and kind! We got pickle chips, a pickle Reuben… and of course a pickle back… loved all of it! We’ll def be back!

My favorite local place to play pool for a dollar ($1) a game.

– Cheeseburger – $8.50 (discounted?): Got it deluxe with ketchup.  The burger comes with chips.  The chips are mainly just standard chips you’d get from a bag at a grocery store, though there is a slightly larger portion than some restaurants that do this.

The burger patty was a bit smaller (maybe 3 oz?), but well prepared.  Nothing really to write home about, but nothing majorly wrong either.  The toppings were a bit on the heavier side which fills out the burger a bit better.  The bun was standard.  The cheese was not melted, but okay.

There was a special that day only, $1 off burgers.  The Cheeseburger is usually $8.75.  I got it for $8.50.  Not sure if that is because I got it deluxe.  I don’t see anywhere on the menu that says it is extra.  I asked and they said the $1 burgers special is NOT a regular occurrence, but totally random.

The kitchen closes about an hour before the building.    The food prices are VERY fair and on the cheaper side.  Anything that doesn’t seem cheap is something they are good at from what I’ve seen.  Specials include Monday steak fajitas and Thursday burritos at a $1 off for a full one.

– Nachos (full, with pork) – $14: My friend bought this and was still eating it after 5 games of pool.  It comes on a huge plate.  It had plenty of meat, but tasted well balanced, relatively hearty, and even healthier.  It was definitely filling and overall enjoyable.

– Service: The bartenders typically serve the food and are always stellar here.  Low pressure, chipper, helpful, and attentive.  I’ve been here more than a dozen times for years and they never miss a beat.  I have yet to see them have a bad day.

– Atmosphere: Plenty spacious!  It is kept up fairly well.  There is wood flooring and panelling.  A tad on the darker side with lighting, but not too dark.  The tables and chairs are typically well maintained.

We use the pool tables a lot (5-7 games each time).  They are well kept.  There have been issues with the mechanics of the tables not working previously, but the last few times have been completely without incident demonstrating they are resolved.  Bravo!

– Conclusion: I’d recommend this place to most of my friends out that way.  It is not too far of the Interstate and a cozy place with ok to good food at fair prices.

Visited many times, but last time on a Wednesday.  We usually come on Tuesdays.  Sometimes they have the pool tables free on Tuesdays.

I like this bar. Food is good, not too expensive. They got arcade games for me to blow my money on. Good drinks, good service. Great place for little old Marne.

This bar was phenomenal..the service, the atmosphere, the food..OMG..literally every single thing was amazing. We were visiting from the other side of the state, and I borderline would want to move to Marne to have this as my neighborhood bar. My wife would have to pry me from there everyday. If they ever want to open another location in Metro Detroit I would love to be a part of it. THANKYOU!

We enjoyed the whole time we were there. From the food, atmosphere, and especially the service. The young man that waited on us was very courteous and polite. He also went out of his way to acknowledge our 12 year olds manners and how he ordered. We will be back.
