Labor Day weekend we were in visiting Minneapolis. My partner is Gluten Free and found a post about Hold The Wheat. We went there for Breakfast one morning, and it was worth the visit.

It’s a comfortable little store. Parking was a little tricky, but we were able to get a spot on the street in front of the store. If they had been busy, I don’t know that we’d been able to find a place close by to park. The interior was casual and welcoming. We walked in and started perusing the displace case. There were a lot of delicious options. We had to discuss who was going to get what so we could try various items. I ended up getting a Caramelized Onion & Gruyere Quiche, she chose the Bacon & Goat Cheese Quiche. Of course, being out of towners we had a lot of questions. The staff was accommodating and answered everything enthusiastically. Even though I am not Gluten Free, I do tend to be a little watch dog like for my partner, only because she has ordered items in the past that we thought were gluten free only to find out they really weren’t. They were understanding and assured me that everything was Gluten Free.

After ordering we went to their small indoor seating area to try our selections. Overall, the food was fantastic. I can’t say anything disparaging about either of the quiches. We had a very intense discussion regarding which one of our quiches was better. Honestly, we ended up trading half way so we could enjoy both. She was pleased with the flavor and the crust of the quiche. For those of us that eat gluten, we know that sometimes gluten free items have a slightly different flavor or texture that, while not bad, just isn’t the same. That really was not what I experienced at Hold the Wheat. The flavor was 100% on point with what one would expect. The texture was a little crumblier than gluten full options, but it didn’t have that grainy texture. It was fantastic.

While ordering in their display I saw a Dill Pickle & Pink Lemonade cup cake. According to the staff it was a novelty they made for the Minnesota State Fair and was popular there. My interest was piqued; thus, I ended up ordering one to take home. I did not need a cupcake in the morning. Before I go further into this, let me just say that I ended up eating it two days after I bought it. So let me just say, it’s a novelty. The flavor was unique. I like dill pickles… but apparently, I am not the dill pickle & pink lemonade flavored cupcake fan. I’m not letting this influence my review because of the nature, but it did look appealing. I only mention it because it’s a fun item they made for a special occasion and is indicative of their creativity, but it has no impact on this review.

Overall, this place was fantastic, if we get back to the area, we will definitely go back. If you are Gluten Free, or in a relationship with someone that is Gluten Free, this place is a must.

A true haven for anyone gluten free!

Walking into Hold the Wheat feels instantly welcoming, from the smell of fresh-baked goodies to the friendly faces behind the counter, you can tell this place is something special

The team there treats you like family, and as someone with Celiac disease, that sense of safety and welcome means the world.

Every single item is life-changing. I don’t say that lightly — they’ve somehow captured the taste and texture that most of us thought we’d lost when we went gluten-free. Their ham and cheese danish is absolutely to die for — I have no idea how they perfected that flaky, crispy crust that’s been missing from my diet for years! And their Celebration Spencer cakes? My husband, who doesn’t even have to eat gluten-free said they were the best cakes he’s ever had. That says everything!

What really sets Hold the Wheat apart, though, is the heart behind the business. On one visit, I watched a manager walk a customer’s order all the way to her car — just one small act of kindness, but it captures what this place is all about. The people here truly care.

If you’re gluten-free (or even if you’re not), go. Hold the Wheat will remind you that food can still be joyful, comforting, and absolutely delicious!

What a charming and delicious gluten free bakery. The lattes are two thumbs up as well. Whether it’s sweet or savory, I haven’t found something here I didn’t like or wasn’t so pleasantly surprised out how yummy the gluten free fare is that I selected any given visit. Go here. Order gluten free and give them your money. Such a treat to eat from a gluten free kitchen. The service is terrific as well. Good job Hold the Wheat!

First gluten free BEC sandwich I’ve had that didn’t take “gluten free.” So refreshing to feel normal eating food without gluten that tastes amazing!

“That’s amazing”. It’s what you’ll say after every bite. The savory and sweets both hit the mark and challenge the stigma of what gluten free means!!

The chai latte is smooth and spicy with just the right balance of froth. 10/10

My husband and I made our first trip in to this fantastic gluten free eatery. I can’t say enough good things about the amazing desserts, menu items, and the service. First time in so it took us awhile and the young lady at the counter was very patient and a gentleman also popped out and was so informative. We just love this place and it will definitely be a “go to” spot for us. Thank you for caring about people and their allergies and intolerances and for your support of your local community.

Celiacs and Non-celiacs alike will have their mouth watering for their scrumptious breakfast biscuits. Absolutely delicious! Highly recommend. Myself and the other member of my party had the bacon and egg biscuit. The bacon was perfectly cooked. The eggs were delicious and the biscuits were buttery, moist, and delicate. Absolute deliciousness, very impressed. The staff were friendly and enjoyable. Immensely enjoyed every aspect of my experience.

My 7yo: “this is absolutely DIVINE, there’s no way this is gluten free”

I had to go back in and get another lemon cake thingy for myself. They’re so freaking good.

If we weren’t in a hurry, sitting in to eat would have been great. They have a couple tables and the whole place is just cute.

Definitely our favorite gluten free bakery we’ve ever been to, will return, 15/10, highly recommend.

UPDATE:
We returned the same week the savory stuff is SCRUMPTIOUS. The quiche is THICC and heavy, and honestly smells like dominos pizza. My son called it breakfast pizza and he’s spot on. It was SOOOOO good. Next time we’re going to get multiple quiche flavors.

The garden danish was good and very veggie spread flavored, but none of us would get it again, we just like the other things WAY more.

The breakfast skillet was too crunchy for my husband, but me and my son loved it.

The bacon and goat cheese quiche was definitely the star today though. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Is it spendy compared to gluten food? Yes. Is it spendy compared to other gluten free goodies? I don’t think so. I’ve never spent $9 on a quiche and felt like it was worth every penny. Cannot recommend this place enough!!
