I tried calling River Maiden (opens at 7:30) on the way, but there was only a recording telling me to order on the website—which isn’t an option while driving. They have a good-sized parking lot. I ordered their Egg Sando with Bacon. Side note: I asked for a printed receipt and was told, “We don’t print receipts here.”

The ciabatta was good, the eggs were a quality scramble, and the bacon was flavorful without a lot of fat like fast-food bacon. Neither the menu nor the emailed receipt mentioned what kind of cheese was used, but whatever it was, it did the job.

River Maiden’s scramble is more gourmet—but that also makes it prone to droppings. You definitely need a plate underneath it. Cost before tip: $11.42. -VanPort Insider

Usually, I don’t love avocado toast. But this is the best I have EVER had. I also got the yogurt bowl which was really good – not too sweet. My husband got the breakfast sandwich and said it was one of the best he’s had. Super cute inside too! LOVE this place

Worth the detour off I-5 for breakfast. Saying the food is “delicious” doesn’t it justice. Get an egg sandwich and marionberry scone – you won’t be disappointed.

Just the name evokes magic and romance. For me it is the dark of night on a black river with lanterns swinging and the giant paddles sluicing into the water in a never ending circle.
Down river we hear the foghorn calling as if missing lost love.

The place itself reminds me of certain hippie haunts from my youth. Some along trekking roads in the far east and some in my home town, filled with a bustling of people meeting and talking and eating real food… but cleaner. Those establishments were always filled with the well traveled dust from the road.

With a touch of hesitation I got a turkey sandwich and a large hot mocha. You order at the counter, which feels a little confusing, with the jumbles of plants and the shape of the station. There seems to be a feeling of impermanence and loose organization which I suspect could grow on you. Not this place for corporate meetings or feet which do not leave the beaten path.

It seems in fact to be the antithesis of corporate America and the ever present plethora of generic chains. River Maiden is a story unto itself.

So the sandwich went beyond expectations. Turkey has never been a huge favorite of mine, probably because as a boy I killed my own and delivered them to my sainted mother who worked absolute kitchen witchery on them. Nothing else can compare.

I was pleasantly surprised! It rang all the bells and satisfied all the hopes. Central to the architecture were the red pickled onions which reminded me to rush home and start chopping.
You know they have you when you automatically want to try and reproduce it.

The chips of course are just chips, thick and crunchy though they are. I wish they were fries instead, but the sandwich was enough. The mocha was perfect even without a pretty design on top. Most importantly it came hot, I am so tired of lukewarm coffee drinks.

And then, there is the fulcrum of the place. The very spot where effort and dedication move something so much larger than itself. Where it raises up an ethos within the community. Where something magical happens and an edifice becomes part of the community, where the sum is greater than its parts.

This is what I feel as I sit there with my sandwich in hand, the buzz of community, a place essential to a wide matrix of diverse people.

Or maybe it is like river full of disjointed seemingly random parts that ultimately flows together towards the same goal.

Good food, good people, good community.

Fresh, delicious, in-house-made, made-to-order, brunch-fare that will keep you coming back! Breakfast sammies, burritos, toasts, bowls, pastries, cookies, coffee, matcha & more! The fluffy, buttery scrambled eggs are truly my fave!! Gluten-free & vegan options are available as well. My family has been frequenting River Maiden for at least a couple of years now. The dining area has a chill & cozy vibe with a plethora of houseplants – honestly makes me feel like I’m at home. Owner, Melissa, is a kind & down-to-earth human that really has a passion for her business & it’s people. She has cultivated a culture that is unmatched & it shows in the loyalty of her staff. Melissa, Mark, Jacob, Jon, Espe, Emma, Anna, Carter, Ripley, Micah, & all the rest of the crew – we enjoy seeing you all! Thank you for always being so friendly & attentive! See ya next week! 😉

Super excited to try this place…a little let down. First, it was pretty expensive; we got the breakfast burrito, the herbie, a scone, and two coffees and it was over 50 dollars. So basically a breakfast for two. The flavor was okay on the sandwich and burrito. I will say that the lemon poppyseed scone was SO delicious. The inside is cute but a little crowded and noisy. While we certainly didn’t have a bad experience, we probably won’t come back.

My first experience here was definitely a good one. $23 for “the Italian job” sandwich, a blueberry muffin, and a chia latte. The peppers made the sandwich for sure. All of it was delicious. The atmosphere was a little hectic for me. But it wasn’t a bad time. I’ll certainly be back again.

My husband found this cute restaurant because of their lunch sandos, however we went there for breakfast today. The coffee was perfect. The pastries were spectacular. The food was amazing! We had the sausage and bacon breakfast burritos. I highly recommend River Maiden!! We’ll be back!

This is my absolute favorite coffee shop in Vancouver. Great staff who are always friendly and welcoming. The bakery goods are top notch and the hot items (especially the breakfast burrito and egg sando) are the best you’ll find in the city.

I’m kind of a picky eater so I didn’t try any of their menu items but saw the size of the sandwiches and listened to the people in the table next to me raving about how good they were. I did get a muffin that was top notch!!! Frappe was good too. The service was a little lacking but they were busy. The inside is cozy and full of plants that make it feel like you’ve stepped into another world.
