My family went for breakfast on Saturday. We each got one of each of the 3 breakfast items that was offered. Biscuits and Gravy, Breakfast Sandwich, Burrito. Came to $40 with drinks.
All the food came on plastic plates, plastic silerware, the house tea was awful. Food was lukewarm because it was microwaved. Cheese wasn’t even melted. Too expensive for us. Can get the same at Casey’s for 1/2 the price. There was no seasoning on any of the food.

We’ve gotten orders to-go three times since they opened. The first time, shortly after they opened, I got The Gobbler, which was decent, though not warmed through very well. We felt that perhaps they were still trying to find their footing and gave them another try a few weeks later. We both got the daily special that day, which was an open-faced sandwich and both enjoyed it. We ordered again today, I ordered the special, open-faced chicken. It was okay. Thankfully I brought it home because I needed a real knife, as opposed to plastic, to cut through the chicken, which was a little rubbery on the outside edges. The mashed potatoes and gravy were great (although, I was expecting chicken, not beef gravy, on a chicken sandwich) and the chicken, despite the shortcomings, was seasoned well. I ordered the Wagyu burger and baked beans for my husband. He said it was good, but he much prefers the burgers from Chommy’s. There are several pros and cons to this Appanoose Rapids location.

The general pros are, it’s a restaurant in Eldon, which is something we desperately need. They use environmentally friendly disposable products, which is huge to us and a reassuring detail, that they’re willing to go to the extra expense for it. They have coffee, tea, and shake options, which, while we haven’t tried them yet, is a benefit to have in town. They have more than just standard burgers or basic diner food on offer. The interior is very trendy and well done. They seem to be trying to work on their menu and efficiency as they work out the kinks.

The biggest general con for me is that the items aren’t made in-house, but rather at their main location in Ottumwa and brought in and reheated. I think that contributes to much of the inconsistency in heating and texture. Their side items are also very limited. Even having chips on offer for something like the burger, would be a benefit. They don’t really have any “kid friendly” foods, so when we order from here we also have to order from Casey’s or Chommy’s for our young children, which is a pain and one of the reasons we don’t choose it very often. The limited menu is both a pro and a con, I think. It’s nice to not be overwhelmed with decisions, but the limited selection is also, well, limiting.

My recommendations would be to include a few items that are made in-house, even if those items rotate frequently. To include an ice cream selection in addition to shakes, and to add a few items that are more kid friendly. I would also suggest that, since much of the food is pre-prepared in Ottumwa and simply reheated in Eldon, that they play that to their advantage and offer meals that are cold and ready to re-heat at home. I could see a benefit to buying a hot lunch to eat now and a cold meal to take home and heat at supper on a busy day. Especially if that option came with a small discount to make it more appealing.

Overall, I think it’s a benefit to have available and I hope that they listen to feedback and continue working towards improvement and being an asset to our community. We will continue to try this location in hopes that they continue to make improvements.

Food on menu sounded good however when we got it it was nothing special, food is not fresh just microwaved for you and the prices were a little bit over board for what there were serving.
