Had dinner at San Juan on Saturday evening. Everything else was packed so we decided to give it a try.

This place is mostly a Tex-Mex restaurant with some seafood on the menu. It is by no means a Trout Street or a Tortuga, or a La Playa or even a Virginias on the Bay quality type of restaurant. But dinner out was a last minute plan and we were out of options for a seating elsewhere.

I had the redfish and shrimp plate and it is definitely not a favorite. It was more like a Long John Silver fried fish basket. They serve it with “packets” of ketchup and tartar sauce. No homemade condiments here.

The atmosphere was very loud with kids screaming, chairs banging, just a lot of noise. Kind of like being in a loud cafeteria. Not a very good dining experience at all. But the prices are well below the other previously mentioned restaurants. I believe my redfish and shrimp basket was about $13.95.

Overall I was not impressed. The others in our party had Tex-Mex plates and they both said it was “okay”. I think it might be best to stick with a Tex-Mex plate but at the same time don’t expect anything better than 2 stars on both food and atmosphere.

Totally amazing as I googled the area and found this place. I had the beef and cheese enchiladas. It came with refried beans and spanish rice. Their homemade salsa was better than I’ve had in a long time. Extra beans and chips were brought. Modelo beer topped of a excellent meal!. Muchas Gracious!

This place was recommended to us during our stay. We were greeted and treated warmly and did takeout. The order was put in and came out quickly. The food was hot and fresh; Our taquitos, migas, and pancakes were delicious. The salsa tasted homemade and they included syrup, butter, and utensils. Very reasonably priced! Highly recommend!

Great place to eat! Food was good and the environment was clean. All the family enjoyed their meals. They have a variety of things to choose from. I’d recommend to anyone who’s looking for some good authentic Mexican cooking.

We arrived at the restaurant with our 2-year-old being very much a 2-year-old and the staff immediately sent food to the table to help keep him happy — which we so appreciated! Isaiah gave excellent service from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious, and even our picky older kids loved it. If you’re in Port Aransas and craving Mexican food, this is definitely the place to go!

BEST RED SNAPPER!! Ok, we LOVE this place!! We tend to vacation in Port Aransas for so many reasons, and we try out new restaurants occasionally. Tonight we had a place in mind, but they were so crowded, we decided to drive a few blocks up the road to San Juan, because we KNOW the food is good!

Yes, I definitely should have written a review years ago, but I will blame my kids’ young ages at the time, zero extra time for writing. Now, the youngest is 13, no excuses. Had to write one on tonights meal.

The Mexican food is wonderful. Spicy when appropriate. Fresh, quality of meat & poultry is always top notch. And one thing we always get and share—fresh red snapper. Its FRESH! And cooked to perfection. And unlike ALL other Port A seafood places, the cost is under $20! One thing that is a bit irritating is the high cost of seafood here. We are next to the ocean, yet most places charge a minimum $25 and up for any seafood side from shrimp. So, if you are like me, and you have too many kids to spend a fortune on dinner, and you need at least one night of not cooking, I highly recommend San Juan.

When you walk in, you instantly feel like family. I believe its family owned and operated. We were greeted and seated by one of the grandfathers, holding the sweetest grand-baby named Camellia. It felt like we had just arrived at our own aunt & uncle’s house complete with cousins and the like. They are all so friendly, and helpful. Please, if you have not tried them yet, check them out, you will be glad you did.

Lightening fast service, amazing food, at a very affordable price. Genuinely surprised at the quality and value of Restaurant San Juan. On the front of the menu they claim to have “the best Mexican food north of the border” given how close we are to border, I initially had my doubts. San Juan and their stellar staff proved me wrong! Will definitely eat here again the next time I find myself in Port Aransas.

Beautiful restaurant horrible attitude of the male server. After fishing all day we were so hungry we weren’t welcomed very well. Took our order and started walking away WHILE we are still ordering. Food came one by one so first sat there for a bit once we ate it was zero flavor I had to dunk each bite in salsa to just get flavor. Never again. Only gets business because of the lack of places in such a beautiful area. We will be back in town but not recommending San Juan to anyone.

Chips were stale. The guacamole was plain and unseasoned. Not even salt and pepper. We had the stuffed avocados. Don’t waste your money. It had 1 shrimp in each seed hole and they tasted like they were bad. Very fishy. I didn’t eat them for fear of getting sick. My husband thought it was because they were canned. That left me with an avocado. I could have had that at home. We must have gotten the last of the refried beans. They were a big thick blob on the plate. I was able to eat the rice. And don’t call it a salad when it is lettuce and a tomato for you hard shell taco.
Unfortunately we won’t be back. We won’t recommend it to friends we are traveling with either.

Excellent service. The margaritas were fabulous, the food was fine. Menu states Fajitas, but they serve grilled flank steak, which is a thin, cheap cut of meat. Enchiladas were just OK. They skimp on the beans & rice…don’t know why, since the beans were old and re-warmed. Our wonderful waitress brought a bowl of borracho beans to make up for it. Average price per person $12 -15. Recommend if you’re looking for a quick bite to eat.
