Oryza Asian Cuisine was fine, but definitely not a spot I’m racing back to. The vibe, though, is great—cozy booths, a nice bar setup, plenty of tables, and even a big fish tank with a little turtle doing its thing. The bartender/waitress was a total standout: super friendly, super attentive, and honestly the best part of the experience.

Our drinks, a Long Island and a vodka Sprite, were both solid and hit the spot. The food was good, not amazing. I ordered the mushroom stir fry, and my guest went with the Thai basil plate. The real surprise was finding a random bone in the Thai dish—about the size of a nickel and half an inch tall—which definitely knocked the food score down.

Overall, it wasn’t a bad visit, but next time I’m in Iowa City, I’ll probably be checking out a different Chinese restaurant.

Wonderful atmosphere and experience. The food was exceptional and came out quickly. The Jajang noodles reminded me of home. Our server, Trisha, was funny, kind, and very attentive to our needs. Definitely would come back. The staff gave us tiramisu on the house. All around a phenomenal time! Would definitely recommend for the variety in food and service! Bravo!!

Sorely disappointed in our dinner experience. We got the Korean wings which were served with a straight up cup of fish sauce and not spicy at all. Thai curry fried rice had woody pineapple (if you could find any) and a burnt taste although the tofu had a nice crispy finish. Bun Bo Hue was really just sad. The broth had no flavor or fresh herbs other than some measly stems of cilantro; the tomatoes were also sour and not in a good way, the meat was like cheap chả lụa and no giò heo… things could be much better. Unfortunately, we will not be returning.

Gotten takeout from here before which tasted fine. This time we got dumplings which were good, and a spring roll appetizer which was fine. Unfortunately when my pho came out, there was a large bug in my vegetables/basil. We told our server and he brought out a fresh plate, but we were too put off to eat the food. None of our food was comped – we paid and left. We will not be back.

We ordered from this place for the first time tonight. We used to frequent another establishment in this location. The food was excellent. Sizzling rice soup was well prepared. Vegetables fresh and the broth nice and clear. We will try them again!

The food was good and but I want to mention one concern. There is a turtle kept inside the restaurant, and the enclosure is not suitable. The water level was very low, the platform is too difficult for the turtle to access (he failed multiple times to get out of the water), there are no plants or rocks for enrichment, and no covered area for shelter. The turtle looked stressed and it was hard to watch him swim in a circle.
I’m sharing this hoping that the owners will look into improving the enclosure or doing some research about proper turtle care. Aside from this, the food itself was good!

Everything we tried here was delicious!
When you first walk in you see the lovely aquariums, the you see that the tables are set up fancy with cloth napkins laid out neatly. The waitstaff was very kind and welcoming. But most importantly, the food was so good!

We went to Oryza to celebrate my sister’s birthday. The staff was nice and helpful. The food was delicious.

One of my favorite things was the menu was super helpful with the dietary key with labels for gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan. The menu also told you where each dish came from (like China for mapo tofu).

Highly recommend eating there if you are in the area.

I loved this little place! I went the day after Thanksgiving with a friend and had the best kimchi fried rice I’ve ever had. Our server was so sweet and kind. I love finding small businesses just like this. I will definitely be back!
