The best part was the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff. Everyone called me by my first name. They genuinely wanted my opinions and actively asked for them and regarded them without judgement. They even asked for my opinion beyond what is your favorite dish. In essence they made you feel like part of a family or at the very least a VIP. The portions were also very hardy and they used locally sourced ingredients. The price is also very cheap for what you are getting and might be one of the cheapest chef tasting in DC. I came here since I had a half off wine pairing secondary to the Smithsonian institute and will easily come again when I visit DC.

Edit: My second visit was opposite my first, quicker service but my hash brown was as cold, and the vegetable hash was barely warm Only 3-4 pieces of carrots and cauliflower, with the rest being potatoes. Won’t be returning for brunch again.
Great food, service at snails pace
Booked a brunch reservation for opening, and were promptly seated. Friendly staff and only a couple people other than us in the restaurant.
Unfortunately, I had to flag down the young server assigned to our table every time we wanted a coffee refill, and our food, while excellent, took over an hour to arrive. Other parties were seated, ate and left in that time span.
The food was so good I plan on coming back again just in case it was a one-off day for the crew, but even when not in a rush, we were starting to wonder what was happening.

It was a highly anticipated dining experience. I have been working as a cook for years and love keeping up with leading Chefs in the industry. When I found out that the Chefs who are running this restaurant trained with the finest master Chefs of the culinary field, I was excited to try their food.
When I got there, the front of the house staff greeted me with much warmth and I immediately felt welcomed. I made reservations at the Chefs table which gave me the opportunity to see them in action.
Incredible thing was that my water was always topped off. The server was knowledgeable and professional.
As a professional cook, I know the value of excellent ingredients. The quality of each component in the dishes were great and they came together nicely. Everything was very delicious. I ordered four different plates which filled me up and satisfied my curiosity.
I enjoyed spending my evening here and I can’t wait to try more dishes which I am sure I will love.
Try the flat bread. Hands down the best I ever had.

My husband and I went to this restaurant on a Sunday after church. Great spot! We had already had a late breakfast, so I really wanted to see what this place was all about with some of the smaller items. Specifically, I love to see what a restaurant can do with their deviled eggs. This is a Michelin star restaurant, so I thought they have to know what they’re doing… And honestly they did :)! I can’t even lie my grandmother makes some amazing deviled eggs, but this place killed it ❤️. Additionally, my husbands Croque Madame was absolutely delicious. It was so flavorful, and he said it was the best thing he ever had, it was his first time ever having it. This is a farm to table restaurant so as you order, they are preparing things in the moment and it’s from locally sourced Farms. You can see which farms they source other items from on the back of the menu I took a photo of. And please do order the pomegranate ginger mimosa it is absolutely Fye Fye . The service at this restaurant was amazing, we weren’t going to eat here at first, but I needed to use the restroom and as I was in the restroom my husband was talking to the servers and he like them so much. He said we should eat here. They did not disappoint. We had an amazing mail server. He was a wealth of knowledge, and extremely professional which was great. I will say the only thing I regret was not getting the buttermilk chicken, it takes 30 minutes to bake and unfortunately we didn’t have enough time to order that but we will be coming back here soon.

Food was amazingly good. The three course tasting menu was so so good and the service was top notch. I had the Homemade Country Sausage, Chicken Ballotine, and the Rum Baba. I also added their delicious French Onion Soup as a second appetizer. Someone else ordered a la carte and had the Buttermilk Fried Chicken (which I will have to get whenever I come back). Everything was clean plate worthy. The servers were incredibly knowledgeable of the menu and how everything was prepared. I would recommend 1000 times out of 1000.

22% service charge, and our waitress never introduced herself and seemed to be having a bad day. We felt much better with the male waiter who greeted us at the entrance and checked in with us through the meal. The restaurant has nice interiors and we were sat by the window with a good view and lighting
We ordered two mocktails and felt they were average for $14, perhaps the alcohol normally plays a bigger part in the drinks?
The onion soup was way too salty/reduced. The bread you get is in the soup already, so it’s judt soggy mush when you get to it. It would be better to have the bread separately. The yoghurt was nice with the berries, but you just get a small scoop of yoghurt. The oyster didn’t have much taste and was small.
The eggs benedict tasted really good, lots of crab meat in the crab cake (one of the best crabcakes I had in DC). I added caviar, but it didn’t really add much to the overall dish. The salad was oddly too sour and salty, and I think adding something other than greens would have made it more special. There’s not many options for vegetarians, and the vegetable hash was average tasting, as you’d expect with mixed vegetables in tomato sauce.
We got the peach tart as complimentary (other tables got one too), but it tasted stale. For over $200, I expected more.

After living Navy Yard for several a years I finally came here for dinner & wish I came sooner. The staff were so incredibly lovely. Food was great and the wine list was good. Will definitely be heading back soon to try cocktails.

Wow! I was not expecting such high end food! Heard amazing things but Shilling took it to another level! Even the one bite starters were raising my eye brows!! The food was extremely delicious, one dish after the next. The service was right on. Jonathon and Emily were so incredibly attentive to us and even brought our kids some paper and pens. The vibe was flowing as the music and scene were perfect. Everyone in DC needs to check this restaurant out immediately!!!!!! Thanks Reed for an amazing experience!

Went for the Chef Counter experience to celebrate my birthday and can not recommend this place enough. The service was an absolute stand out, everyone took time to talk with my friend and I about the wine and food we were enjoying, it really made the night special. The 7 courses were perfect on their own but the wine pairings were so on point. Without a doubt the portions of each dish were far larger then other restaurants of this caliber… actually having top tier left overs the next day is a huge win. Bravo.

We went for dinner. The food was great! My feedback generally was the service was lack luster. My drink came out with the second course, there were long pauses between courses. But the real sticker for me was the fact that there were no spoons. I was served a crab cake with gazpacho, in a bowl- but was only given a fork. For dessert my pie and ice cream also only had a fork. It made my dining experience difficult and it’s the little things that make service over the top.
Again great food, large portions, but thoughtfulness in the little things and service would really allow them to go the extra mile!
The cookie at the end was great.
The lamb was plentiful but the sauce on the side detracted from the flavor. All the desert was amazing- great textures and flavors. Salad was super fresh and refreshing. Would go again for the food!
