I wanted to give 5 stars so let me explain. Service is a big deal for me. I attended a high school game in the area and decided hey I want some good tacos. So to google I go. I come across Califas Tacos & Beer. I was instantly excited after scanning through the menu. The names says it itself. If you have ever experienced any kind of Southern California taco you know they hit different. So here is my experience. I get out my truck and we walk in. The restaurant was clean and the food was smelling good. There were 2 patrons eating. Walking up to the counter you see a menu with video visuals of different food item scrolling on 2 parts of the menu board. You see every item the showed looked awesome. While looking at the menu I observed a female employee standing at the register. No greeting or smile. I tell her this is our first time here and everything looks great. Still no reaction or response. She finally asks in a low dry voice what would you like to order. I ask her what is some of the top or best items everyone likes here. She then turns around and open the door to the kitchen as if she needed assistance with my question. She then turns back around and stands there. I again ask the same question. Instead of answering she walks of from behind the counter to a table near by and picks up her phone and takes it off the charger. At this moment I usually walk out a restaurant for terrible service, but I kept my composure. I asked her if she is ok because she was being very rude, and to speak to a manager. Still no response. So I just go ahead and order from the menu hoping the food would help me recover from the horrible service. We get our food and I tell ya the flavors that hit my tastebuds let me forget about the bad service I experienced before getting my food. The food looks plain, but the goodness inside the tacos and burritos are top notch. It reminded me of some of the taco stands that I experienced in Southern Cali. So for me the food, experience, and vibe was excellent. The service at the counter was terrible. I will be going back to try other items on the menu.

The tacos were okay here. Can get better tacos for much less, but the tradeoff is the environment and ambiance. As for the fries, we wouldn’t get it again. It was pretty meh. Maybe the nachos would’ve been the better choice instead of the fries. The ambiance here at Califas was great. Decor was quite nice. It is a self service restaurant, but the staff was friendly and answered our questions.

Had advertisement for breakfast tacos in front window but when we inquired we’re told they only sell breakfast burritos. Ordered tacos which she got wrong. One was so spicy that it was inedible and when I advised her she shrugged and picked up her phone and made a call completely ignoring my attempts to rectify the situation. She also made no effort to correct the rest of the order that was wrong. When we asked for the manager we were told she left as she continued to play on her phone.

I really wanted to like this place because the area could really use a good, authentic taco spot. Unfortunately, this is not it. The interior is pretty nice. The service was ok, cashier didn’t seem too happy to be there. It’s overpriced for what it is. $45 for 4 tacos, 2 drinks, and an order of their fries. You can spend half that and eat twice as much at more authentic places. The tacos were bland and the fries came out too salty. It’s a decent place for a quick bite but if you’re looking for authenticity or flavor, there are much better places.

My favorite place to go on my lunch break! Honestly, I think these are the best tacos I’ve tried. It is a bit pricey but to me it is worth the price, because it’s only a few dollars more expensive than a fast food meal for authentic tacos. The green sauce offered is very tasty and has a great kick to it that I have trouble finding at other taco places. Service has always been good here and the food comes out fast and hot 🙂

That very disrespectful girl behind the register wasn’t helpful at all… her body language displayed, I don’t want to be here and you figure it out…was rude when asked about the menu .. She didn’t wanna be bothered…“ I can’t see it, it’s behind me” I need you to read the name of what you want “ and all I wanted was a suggestion on what was the top order items. First time and last just because of her, but the food was GREAT!

So after a very stressful and long day at the ER were trying to get something for dinner so ended up at this place, first time here, this young disrespectful person didn’t even greet us, but she did make sure we noticed they almost closed I looked at the time and barely 8:15 those were the first words she spoke to me, and then I asked her what’s in those kind of tacos because I wasn’t familiar with the menu and couldn’t see very well, my bad of course ♀️ and she goes, it says there, in spanish, she was disrespectful to us middle aged people,. This is when we have to speak up, don’t be rude to your customers, remember they feed you. You have no idea what they been through and if I wasn’t disrespectful and rude to you why should i be treated like that.
BTW…..The tacos were delicious and i applaud the cooks.

Lunch: Amazing, authentic & flavorful tacos! We had birria and fish tacos. Salsas also delicious. Excellent customer service. So good will be back for dinner to try something else on the menu!
Dinner: We had the order of five shredded beef flautas (rolled tacos). They were great! Best we have had since our trip to San Diego. Very crisp and not greasy. Lots of shredded beef inside. Enjoyed the toppings and fresh homemade salsas on them. They were filling, so no need for sides. Excellent service again!

My Calif Burrito was great. Great taste and flavors. Only complaint was the tortilla was dry. It’s a self service restaurant but the woman taking my order was very nice and helpful. Would definitely return.
